I can occasionally identify with what they say but they usually lean WAAAAAY too far one way or another, sometimes to the amount where it is scary. Not avatars though, sometimes their names I guess.

Avatars are my weapon, I use them to make impressions. I used to be able to identify plenty of people, but most have them have been banned or have just left.

Usually by avatar, even then not many. Unless they're a very, very consistent poster and I see their profile strewn all over the place. I presume my name/pic combo would be fairly easy to differentiate, but I doubt anyone recognizes me.
I often notice avatars first. Once I've seen an avatar a few times, especially if they often have something to say that is interesting (whether negatively or positively), then I'll take note of a username.
A few i'll notice by post style, a lot more by their Avatar. I suppose people might recognise my penchant for several single line sentences in my posts. Need to stop that really.
And my Viewtiful Avatar of course.
Oh and a few quotes will make me remember someone and anyone who makes me genuinely interested (be it their posting style, presentation or different opinions) will be remembered. For better or for worse.

I can identify many Escapists by name. I'm pretty sure that I'm recognized as the guy with the consistently mind-melting avatars.
I can identify a lot of them by their avatar or name, and for one or two, I can tell how they'll react to threads. But I've been lurking on these forums for years, just didn't make an account
I recognize some user names and avatars. Not as many as I did, as I haven't been very active over the past few months, but still a fair few.

Yes mainly by avatar/name but also by their writing styles, I tend to notice sarcastic people more. I'm sure people do notice me floating around them too. :3

A few. Big post counters I can recognise by both name and avatar. Everyone else I recognise usually by just avatar.
There are a few icons that I keep seeing, but I don't associate personalities with a lot of people before they've already been associated in other posts. As for me, if you do recognise me, it's probably either for the posts I've made in a few roleplaying threads or for being a dick.
