I'm normally fine in the dark, but if I'm walking around alone in it I'll end up thinking of something like the Slender Man and freak the fuck out.
Exactly this. I can usually force myself to examine my situation logically though.

Oh, and one more thing:

I refuse to walk in certain rooms in the dark. That's just because they're messy and I could either trip and fall on something pointy, or knock something over on me or both. My irrational fear is of heights.

Strange thing, I am NOT afraid of the dark, but the other day I went exploring in my attic, and I was fucking terrified. I don't know why, but I couldn't go more than two feet in without chickening out and running back down the ladder.

I think I was afraid of finding a corpse.... Or a gimp.....

Especially when I stay up to 2 in the morning. Everyone else is asleep, and I have to walk around to my bed, 2 stories above. And then I read "creepy pasta" or scary threads on the escapist the day before.

No. I'm afraid of what's in the dark.

Things like deep water also freak me out. I hate not seeing things...

I'm not afriad of the dark. I'm afraid of wats in the dark. (no, they're not the same, dont get on my back). There's nothing about the dark that is scary. I mean, think about it, its what you spend your time when you sleep in. Its what happens when you die. Its what happens when you party too hardy and your body wants a rest. So there's nothing about the dark that is really scary in itself.

Now, wats in the dark is something completely different. wats in the dark can be anything, and i think thats what alot of people fear is the mystery. the fact that they cnat be ready. I spend alot of my time in ptch darkenss cuase of the way my house is positioned so i dont get much street light and i never turn on the outside lights. so i only get freaked out when i feel something run across the floor in a scamper or when somethuing crawls across my feet.

I'm fine with the dark as long as it's perfectly quiet. It's when I happen to hear something weird in the dead of night that I tend to get paranoid, even though that thing eventually reveals itself to be a pipe gurgling or my cat shuffling around.

Slightly.

It is perfectly natural though. We are programmed to be weary of our surroundings; and when we can't see said surroundings, they become potentially dangerous.
Same here. I'm more scared of bumping into something or someone, falling down the stairs, or walking into a door frame than of the Bogeyman.

When I'm afraid while in the dark it's usually because the furniture in the room tends to create a malformed image of someone and then I just get a little jumpy from the adrenaline of that.

I used to be. I'm not really anymore. I just realized that if I'm afraid of figments of my imagination, I might as well fantazise something that can protect me. Like a Gryphon. Plus darkness hides my... activites... *shifty eyes*

I have a fear of the dark. I have a fear that something's always near. I get so scared that the skin on my neck begins to crawl. It's especially as bad when I've been watching horror films the night before, especially about witches or folklore.

I like the dark. I find it quite comforting and I feel safe.

Am I afraid of what's lurking in the dark watching me? Damn right I am.

That pretty much answers it for me personally. I'm not scared of the dark at all.
Before I even clicked this thread, I was going to type this out.
