ok....history lesson real quick, in 2008 there was a REALLY creepy vampire flick that came out in europe, known as "let the right one in" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/

it was good and creepy, enough to make it a horror classic. flash forward to 7 minutes ago when i see a trailer for "let me in" the freakin remake of the movie.

can someone explain to me the retard logic in remaking an already great movie? a movie thats only 2 years old? i know hackwood is so far out of ideas that they're making a facebook movie, but jeez....

This situation does not warrant a title like this. I thought it would be something I'd actually care about.

Well, there's your answer. They made it in EUrope, and want to bring it to America, but have to "remake" it so its more accepted by the american movie goer public. this acutally happens... well, not often, but sometimes.

Yeah, there's already been a thread or two about this.

I might go see Let Me In, if the reviews are good. If they're mixed, I'll buy it/rent it on DVD. If they're bad, then I'll just say it sucks and insult people that liked the movie(we all do this at some point, and sometimes keep doing it).

I know what you mean, Movies really shouldn't be remade unless they are shit and they can be improved.
If they are already good then they shouldnt get touched as they are more likely to get ruined, however it is just a quick money making scheme.
Choose successful movie
Ride on previous movies success to drawn attention to itself
People see remake cuz they liked the original
All the above = EASY MONEY!!!

Hollywood wanted a slice but were too impatient to wait for the grace period for cult classics.

I might go check it out myself. From what I saw of the trailer, it could be pretty good.

Unfortunately for you, this forum is not dedicated to things you care about.

OT: Yeah, it's stupid. I get remaking great old things; even if it won't be as good, it's interesting to see what an old story looks like retold with modern technology and directing techniques and such. But a movie that's this old, or young as it were? That's stupid. Though America does seem to like remaking things made in Europe...

Why i can support your anger in the unbalanced logic of Hollywood putting your title in all caps won't help your case at all, also before i read "let the right one in" i was totally thinking of Twilight :p

Actually if you'd done some research using imdb as you have there you can read the synopsis for Let me in, it's essentially another vampire romance film so i my guess was a damn sight closer :p

To be fair to you it does mention in the synopsis that the title makes it look like a horror.

No, I can't explain it. But I have a question why do people insist on remaking things?
It's that beautiful feeling of trying to acknowledge the world we've ended up in in comparison to what things used to be like...

Edit: That and I swear this makes me feel like america has to alter media for its general public to understand it... That doesn't say much for americans though...

If I have a proper understanding of the movie, it's not actually a remake so much as it is supposed to be a direct adaptation of the book, which Let the Right One In wasn't.

Yeah, you remember a little Spanish film called [REC] that came out a few years ago? And then one year later a piece of shit shot for shot remake called Quarantine came out?

This is the same thing. Hollywood trying to capture the success of a great foreign movie by fucking it with the big cock of Americanization.

It's just a way to get money.

Step one: Remake movie

Step two: ?????

Step three: Profit!

Step 1: Take a good foreign film.

Step 2: Americanise it.

Step 3: Piss off the fans of the original but market it to the general American public who do not know "Let the right one in" even exists.

Step 4: Make money and do not care about the opinions of what will be a minority of the viewing audience.

Hollywood is a business first and foremost and it wants to make money, it appeals to the widest audience it can to make the most money. Given the current Vampire trend, the very mention of Vampire will have people running to get in line, far more people than the few who get angry.

PRO TIP: It's customary to put the asterisk on the vowel. Just so you know.

Let the Right One In was a foreign film, was it not? Some people are turned off by subtitles. By making an American version, American audiences are more likely to see it in American cinemas.

I'll just pretend it doesn't exist...that's it...

This. Exactly what they are doing with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". I saw it on iTunes being released, and then later I saw on the some information about the film being cast. It made me do a double-take. One is the original Denmark release [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1132620/], and the other is US [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568346/].

I feel really bad that not only does America need to remake our own classics, but we're so devoid of originality that we take it from other countries and repackage it as our own. For shame! (sad face)
