Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow Escapists:
What are we if not geeks? Our common hobby alone is a perfect example of that, yet it is hardly the extend of the geekiness for some of us. In this thread, proudly strut your geekiness! The "pics or it didn't happen" rule is in effect. We want EVIDENCE, not anecdotes!

Naturally, I'll start:

Some of you may recognize this molecule. It's caffeine, a most wonderful compound. This isn't a simple rendering. The spectrum (IR for the curious) was calculated from scratch using the B3LYP method. The mesh is the electron density around the molecule, also calculated by yours truly (aka my netbook over 3-ish hours). Uhm yes, I do quantum mechanical calculations for fun...

I have a Pikachu change purse that I carry with me everywhere, a Pikachu alarm clock and I'm trying to somehow convince my cousin to trade me his Pikachu watch . Pictures will be shown in an edit here.

Yay!

Uhhhh... I play lots of video games and have recently watched Elfen Lied and Fullmetal Alchemist all the way through?

As for geeky stuff - I work in an IT department and sometimes when I watch/read a really good piece of fiction, I write down what I learned from it. On a Word document, of course. What I learn can be anything - something deep about life, something powerful, something great, whatever - I just reflect on it somehow. Not sure if you'd call that geeky, but it sure sounds like it to me.

yeah that is incredibly geeky

Uhm, Urbandictionary isn't really a help here, but I'd say you being extraordinarily dedicated to a hobby not practiced by a lot of people qualifies as geeky. Yeah, that works, and is incredibly geeky!

I call myself a nerd, as geek seems to be too mainstream and "cool" now, and I have been told on many occasions that I am neither of these things. Plus, I've always been called a nerd, never a geek.

I enjoy it very much, but it is an expensive hobby and I do not make enough money to enjoy it to the fullest. I hear that you can get the Traxxas Rustler to 80 mph with teh right motor, the right gearing, the right battery and the right amount of money...

You mean you'd rather be called a nerd? In my experience, a "geek" is somebody who's mostly normal but is completely obsessive over one or a few things. A nerd, however, has the negative connotation of a no-life douchebag quite pimply HUGE glasses wearing weirdo who can't talk through anything but his nose.

Not that you're any of those, but I just find that preference unheard of...
Yep. Nerd doesn't have the same meaning as you listed for me, my friends, or people who call me that. Perhaps it is simply different where I live, although I know what you're talking about. It just seems to me that "Geek" is starting to lean more toward the "wanna bees". People who say they like the same stuff simply because it's popular. Someone wrote an article here yesterday about Fanboys and Fangirls with a link to another article titled "Wake Up Geek Culture" or something like that. Sums up my feelings sort of.

Save up! Nothing quite beets the feeling of seeing your paycheck transform into the object of your desire. In my case, that was a PS3.

Ah, well, the OP's question still stands - what do you nerd-out over?
I was wondering if anyone would call me on that. Good catch.

Star Wars. I have a bookcase that is over seven feet tall and four feet wide. Over half of that is filled solely with Star Wars books. If anyone ever wants to know about what happens to Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Mara Jade, Jacen, Jania, Anakin Solo, Tenel Ka, Zekk, Tahiri, Admiral Ackbar, and countless other characters, I can recall most of it off the top of my head. I also have several dozen of those micro machine ships that they no longer make, along with the dye cast metal ones that came out a while ago. I display Rogue Squadrons II and III beside Knights of the Old Republic I and II proudly behind my fleets. I also have every Naruto box set that has come out, including the filler ones, and every copy of Negima! out in the United States. The Final Fantasy trading arts and the Play Art at the Square Enix store sit on my dresser as well, and I have one of the few Aeris praying statues that they made. Naturally, I have an extensive video game collection, including original copies of Silent Hill 2 and 3, Suikoden through Suikoden V (II included), and Final Fantasy V through XIII, just to name a few of the gems that I own. Arwen's sword rests atop my dresser and Glamdring the Foe Hammer is above my bed. I have Rameriz's katana from Highlander, along with MacLeod's broadsword, of which I am a member of the clan.
Oh, I could talk about this stuff all day, but I'd better stop before I take up an entire page on the forums. If I ever figure out how to post pictures, perhaps I'll share them some day.

I geek out privately. In public, while I don't shy away from conversation about games with other known gamers, I don't make it widely known that gaming is my hobby of choice.

But when my favorite girl calls me (I won't say "girlfriend", that implies serious and/or exclusive and we're neither, but we're more than friends) she'll talk World of Warcraft, I'll talk New Vegas, and since we're both history buffs we'll jabber on at each other about things that would make others roll their eyes.

I love the history channel.
I got angry when people don't watch cutscenes
I yelled in excitement when I saw Skyrim announced at the Spike VGAs... at my ex girlfriend's house.
I quote games and movies all the time and laugh to myself because no one else gets it :p
