I personally am on the fence about it. I know a lot of people are growing tired of the series due to yearly releases. Also people say it is basically the same game with some new maps and guns each year. However, I think if you compare it to yearly sports games the CoD series seems to at least innovate more than that.
Another reason is that it is a major time sink for me. They are games that you can potentially devote 100s of hours to. The games can be rather addictive. Addiction is not always the sign of a great game, and I think I might be better off playing a slew of single player games instead of so much CoD. If I do get it I am going to try to limit how much I play the best I can.
Bear with me as I am writing my points as they come into my head:
Firstly, I assume you have played the previous CoD games. What I fail to understand is the fact that you said that you could devote 100s of hours to one game. That might seem fair to a game like Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto where you have loads of things to do but to a CoD game where you run like a chicken in a small pen ? I think not. I also presume that you played the other CoD multiplayers and if you invested 100s of hours into those as well aren't you getting bored of the same grind ? I mean a new weapon and map isn't exactly innovation since 85% of the game is the same. There's no sense of satisfaction to be had repeating the same meaningless task for hours on end.
Secondly, I'm not getting it because of Black Ops and MW3. Those two games were a piece of crap. BO was just a cold war gun wank fantasy whereas MW3 was bought to you by Michael Bay. Now I'm not going to go into detail as to why the games were crap since I don't want to waste my time, but for me I hardly noticed any difference between the multiplayers. To me the only difference between Modern Warfare multiplayer and the ones that followed was slightly better graphics and some new guns and maps. That's it. Frankly I got my fill of OMGUFUCKINGSUKZZNOBZOR in MW so I don't see a point in buying BO2.
Thirdly, I think that the developers realised that this area of Modern Combat has gone stale now, what with 3 CoD games around the same period of time and are now going to change the scenery to a more Halo style thing. Just watch them milk this one out.
