Hello Escapist, long time reader, first timer poster! Woo!

Here's the story. The other day i'm walking home from some grocery shopping, nothing special, and onmy way home, a dude who's riding his bike passes me. Now it's all snowy and kinda slippery where i am, enough for me to be walking like a Bambi on ice almost.
This dude takes a turn, and makes what looks like a terrible crash, me being about 3 meters from him, turn around and ask "Are you okay?". He grumbled yeah, and sped off.

Then i started thinking. Why the hell did i just ask a person who crashed his bike on the frozen road if he's okay? Something like that hurts, and it always will. I kinda felt like one of those movie retards who asks the main charecter if he's allright, after he survived being inside a massive building that fell on his head. Of course he aint! Why ask? Guess i don't have anything better to say, what else should you ask for? How would you ask?

So. What would you say or how would you react to an accident happening right next to you? Do you walk on, pretending not to notice? Do you rush over to help the people? Or just stand there and laugh for a bit, being a complete butthole?

I laugh at that kind of thing. I enjoy the pain of others to a slight degree...

Rush over and help them, of course. I just hope that all the people who point and laugh when someone trips over get ironically bitten in the arse by their douchebaggery later on.

Damn I always rush over to help people up and ask if they're okay. It's just being polite.

You did it because it's the nice thing to do, occasionally they answer no and then you're glad you asked even if you do feel a tit at the time.

Don't do that when a cyclist falls over, there's a good chance they'll get up and thump you thanks to the enormous adrenaline rush of being flung around and it's affect on their judgement...

Well, it's polite. And if I person wants help, they can respond with, "No, I'm not okay! I think I [verb in past tense] my [body part]! Call a fucking ambulance!"

Are you ok?! BUSTAAA WOOORF!

*ahem*

Eh, I think asking if someone is ok is just being polite. It's not meant to mean "are you perfectly fine?", but rather "are you ok enough to get up and go home on your own without too much pain?"

If people fall and get up right away I just ignore it, but otherwise I help them get up. It pisses me off so much when people ignore someone who made a nasty fall, especially older people. People who laugh at stuff like that deserve to have their legs broken and forced to crawl to the nearest hospital.

Depends if I caused it or not.
If not, then I laugh depending on whether I like the person or not.
If I do, then I may or may not help put, depending on my mood.
If I'm in a good mood, then I will try my best to not step on them
That's how I help

"Do you need medical attention" is the proper way to ask someone if they...well need medical attention since that's what "Are you OK" implies. But hell, "Are you OK" is shorter so people will keep using it.

It's just funny how angry people can get, just because you express concern for their health after a crash or accident or whatever. It's not like i was laughing at him, or went to kick him in the back, i just asked.
Thus I thought the choice of words could be an issue. Instead of "Are you okay?" I'll go with "Do you need help?" the next time, see if that works any better

Yeah... That's me as well I generally get yelled at if I offer a woman help getting up though.
"I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP! *scoffing*"
