I've been known to help teachers a lot of the time.

Though one time during an assembly the pc went through an automatic update that I couldn't cancel - it actually wouldn't exit or be cancelled from Task Manager...
So the year watched the computer count down to 0 and restart. Apparently it was hilarious - I didn't think so.

i am, completely. but to be fair, my family is for the most part, completely computer retarded. "ok... i think i know what your problem is, theres a key near the block of keys on the right, on the top row, it says 'num lock' press it" thats not the worst one.

I'm working as a teck, so even my friends' friends come to me for help, and they always want me to do for free too. though fometimes I get something so its ok, just wish I could have a day off without someone clling me to fix something which is almost always user error. *sigh*

Oh and my mom doesn't know the difference between the internet or and internet browser...........
Another ridiculous thing I hear stupidly often: "Ok I closed the internet. Now what?"
Well I know the difference, but if I close my browser, I nearly always say "closing the Internet" since it seems to be a pretty accepted form of slang which seems easier to say than 'internet browser'.

Yup, I sure am. I get a problem though where people that do one year of some basic tech stuff at school think they're pro and then everybody thinks they know what to do for every computer related issue. Then If I try to tell them how to do it properly, people sometimes ignore me for the stupidest reasons.

That sucks

A similar problem I have is when my friends or family learn the smallest thing with computers and think that any future issues on the computer are related to the one thing they know about it. For example, I teach them how to use the anti-virus I gave them to scan for viruses and when the internet browser crashes they go scanning for viruses every other day

I'm the Mac tech support for the entire dorm I live at and if my roommate isn't around, I end up handling PC's too.
Even in class teachers ask me to help with displays and getting files to open.
Worst thing I've heard: "Macs don't right click!"
She had a mighty mouse and didn't know that if you hold Control-Click then it's the same thing as right clicking. Mac users really are simple.....

Apparently i'm the only person in the house physically capable of resetting the router/modum whenever the Internet goes bust. I pretty much have to solve every tech problem, from computers, to reimputing the codes to remotes with dead batteries, sometimes even at a friends house. I guess I am the tech support bich.

Haha, that happened to me not so far back.

Yup. I'm the most techno savvy person in my house. Which doesn't say much cos I'm pretty useless myself :-S

It's usually my mum who has the problems and asks me for help, she's useless. I know how to do basic shit on the PC, that's it, but she just can't quite get her head round it.

Honestly, I was literally screaming at my Xbox the other day cos it wouldn't sign me into Live. In the end, I didn't know how to fix it so I just gave up and read a book instead :p
