So recently I was playing Fallout 3 and had heard alot about the Dunwich Building on various forums as being the creepiest building in the game... I had never been in that corner of the wasteland so I was getting more curious and decided, what the heck? Let's see what the fuss is about...

And after trundling through it, I felt massively underwhelmed - I'd heard it was unusually dark inside, tin cans and what have you flying across rooms and other supernatural weirdness, but it just failed to deliver..

So my question is this - Have you ever played a game and heard alot about a particular part/area that made it sound amazing or out of the ordinary, but left feeling underwhelmed? Also, I can imagine most might immediately think of the Mass Effect 3 ending, but try and think of any other times this has occured to you.

I will admit, the reason I thought that building was creepy was it seemed like the ghouls screams were much louder than anywhere else. I didn't think it was anymore dark than usual, and I certainly didn't see any cans flying around or any paranormal activity to speak of.

It was just the ghouls. Every time they screamed my blood ran cold, specially since I could hear them but for a good while, could not find them.

I recently finished Spec ops the line and the big "moment" mid way through that everyone alluded to did not hit me nearly as hard as the ending which I found to be the BEST part by far. Saying that the "moment" was by no means bad, in fact spec ops has pretty much the best story out of any game I have played in years, and it is literally the closest game if not the first to achieve true art I have ever played

I kept on hearing people say how difficult the water temple was. I had never played Ocarina of Time in the N64 era (I skipped the console generations between the NES and the PS1) so I was ready for something really difficult and maddening when I got there in the 3DS port of the game.

I kinda got stuck for a bit on one puzzle, but I figured out the rest of it with minimal effort. Perhaps the 3DS version makes it easier to look around or has a better map or something?

I don't know what else they changed, but all the directions to the places where you change the level aren't there in the original

I was ever so slightly underwhelmed by Anor Londo in Dark Souls. Then again when some people were going on "oh most beautiful looking area in gaming lol" it's hardly surprising that i'm let down.

My favourite area in that game was actually that huge winding library room in Seeth's lab place thing, simply because there's this cool impact in there where all these serpent enemies you've been fighting since Sen's Fortress just get shit scared of these weird tentacle monsters and just run the FUCK out of the room ignoring you completely.

It makes quite a statement over how beast these enemies are going to be if veteran soldiers just up and run like that

Water level in Kameo Elements of Power. It's not hard, the control was smoother than what people told me.

The infamous Blight town in Dark souls. Aside from fps drops, it wasn't that bad, I got through the whole thing in one sitting.

Halo 1's Library, it was the only level I enjoyed in that game!! Unpredictable attack patterns kept me on my toes and thumbs. And it has way more variety than all the other levels.

That one level in Thief: Deadly Shadows. It takes place in an old asylum. I think it was called 'Robbing the Cradle' or something similar.

It was supposed to be incredibly scary.

It really wasn't. I liked the way the lights would flicker when the monsters got close, but otherwise, meh.

YOU ARE NOT HUMAN.
I HATE YOU AND HOPE YOUR CATS GET FAT.

:p
This is one of the first times I think I've seen someone who was unaffected by that level.

It wasn't so much difficult, but frustrating and annoying having to constantly shift the water level, from the four (I think) different locations.

I remembered when people were complaining on how hard the Campaign challenge missions were in Arkham City or how hard the second boss of Pid was. To me they were challenging, but not frustrating. Maybe it was just me having played a lot of tougher games back then, but still.

The final "boss fight" in Halo 4 left me completely underwhelmed even though people were saying it was great. I loved the campaign but the way the final fight with the Didact was set out was just stupid. A quick time event was no way to end that game and it felt very anticlimactic.

I agree.

I think it was because "that moment" was very obvious several minutes before it happened. I think if we had no idea it was going to be like that, it probably would have had a much larger impact.

The Wilhelm fight in Borderlands 2. Throughout the whole first quater of the game you have all these audio logs and people telling you how impossible it is to beat the mighty Wilhelm. You're told the previous 4 vault hunters were beaten while fighting him together, that he could derail trains by himself, that he was Hyperions most badass soldier ever to come out of Hyperion's walls...and then I killed him in less then a minute using my ability once and a corrosive pistol. Seriously, that fight was so lackluster, I was going through the whole game solo as Zer0 and all the other missions were harder than that boss fight. I SHOULD HAVE LOST, it was open terrain with little place to hide, my ability wasn't overly leveled yet, I had a sniper rifle an SMG and a pistol and ended up only using the pistol which did hundreds of points less then the other two weapons.

There is also the final boss fight against the Warrior, but that was more because I found out that if I just stood at the entrance none of the Warrior's attacks could hit me (same goes for the Rakk and Chrisalids). So yeah, at least if I wanted a challenge with the end boss I could get one by not abusing the attack range and stupidity of the end boss, Wilhelm was just the biggest fucking pushover.

The ending to Deus Ex: Human Revolution was kind of a let down. The boss fight was a little easy and the end cut scene was pretty meh.

The Killer Croc "boss fight" in Batman: Arkham Asylum. The entire game built it up as one of the toughest fights of Batman's life. Then we got there, and it turned into a game of "eat the batarang."

And then you can one hit them with pretty much any decent weapon/

OT: Gotta agree with Dunwich. Pretty early on in the game I had power armour and a massive shotgun along with billions of other weapons, so I kinda got the "F.E.A.R" effect. That being, you're so goddamn powerful nothing is even close to scary.

Oh, and Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls. Maybe it's because I had experience with Dark Souls and Blighttown or maybe I was just overlevelled but I just stomped everything in there.
I liked the bosses though.

New Vegas in... well, New Vegas. After all the hours I spent wondering around D.C. in Fallout 3, I thought New Vegas would be more than 3 screens. I swear there were buildings in the game that had more space in them than the city of New Vegas did.

They did patch it to where he has more health now, but still rather easy (just takes a while longer). Prepatch you pretty much sneezed and he fell over.

I don't often hook my Xbox up to the internet, and I've already played through Borderlands 2 twice, probably won't be getting that patch anytime soon. And while I do like Gearbox, it's kind of fucking annoying that they had to put out a patch to make an enemy that they spent a good amount of time hyping up harder, and add to the fact that they're too scared that the game will get overly difficult/really easy if they raise the level cap by 10-19 points is just a cop out. The willingly put in that Terramorphus boss as a near impossible enemey (If you don't use the Gunzerker cheat) to be all like, "Hey guys look at this boss he's pretty tough and he's level 52" and yet they want players to not feel tough themselves/find the game too difficult. Add to the fact that single player is significantly more difficult playing as any other class other than the Commando just kind of makes me a little annoyed at Gearbox for seemingly flipping a coin, but choosing both sides.
