I felt the game had the problem that they couldn't not have boss battles - but they'd worked in many other ideas but then each would have to be a seperate mini idea.

They were definitely the worst bits in the game, but they weren't bad - just not great like the rest.

Bosses should be scrapped in my opinion; they're a stupidly dated idea and the only ever thing you hear about them is that they either don't fit with the rest of the game, are too dull/repetitive or just don't make sense.

I didn't agree with the Joker battle either - it was far too easy and Joker really wouldn't have done that. It made it a bit generic.

The game's fantastic though, now playing it through again.

Yeah, I gotta say I was quite dissappointed aswell.

When fighitng Killer Croc, I constantly thought

"Hey, this is probably just an introduction to killer croc before fighting him on some final stage or something."

But no, you just make him fall down.
Killer Croc was a terrible "boss battle" for 2 reasons. First it dragged on for far too long. Second and this really pissed me off. When the battle first starts you set up the trap. So my thinking was

lure him to it
explosion
????
profit

And it failed which lead to my untimely demise. Now this is not the problem. When I hit retry I noticed a little message to the left of the screen. "Hit Croc with a batarang to short circuit his collar". Gee thanks guys. Why not just come over and play it for me as well.

Yeah, the boss battles are lame but if you watched movies/ TAS or read the comics... wasn't much battles there. Bane was dead on though... come on, die and see the little taunt video, comicbook reference.
I got so pissed off when they showed him breaking Batman over his knee again.

I actually said out loud, "Why did you make me relive that, you bastard!!??"
I haven't played but they actually did that? Seems kinda cheesy to me. When I read about referencing Bane I assumed he had dialog like "I'm gonna BREAK you, BAT" or something else that is subtle.
Yeah, when you die from Bane, you'll get one of two (or 3) taunts. I got the one where he holds up Batman's limp body, screams out "I break you!!" and smashes his spine over his knee.

The bosses were very disappointing in this game:

Bane: A fun battle, but they decided to repeat it about 8 times. So no.

Zsasz: One hit to kill. Seriously?

Croc: Less of a chase and more of a "Wait until he appears, then throw one batarang, then keep walking." No real "battle" to speak of.

Scarecrow: Perfect. But this may be because it worked with the atmosphere so well.

Poison Ivy: Meh. It was fun, just really easy.

Joker: ... I'm so disappointed by this battle its not even funny. Well actually, yes it is.

I think that maybe the game should have become a little bit more of a game during the boss battles, and a little bit less of a Batman simulator. Cause playing a weak human is fun, but there comes a time when you just wanna see him bit the crap out of Killer Croc.

You know, just watching the Goddamned Batman put Explosive Gel on his fist, then saying "I'll never let you win." before punching Titan-Joker in the face almost made up for that crappy boss fight. Almost.

And agreed, the fights where it's nothing but easy mooks (Not counting those fucking Stun Baton wielders), just watching Batman tear through them is better than any fight scene in any other Batman film. But the Stealth Sections were even better surprisingly. I mean that game just does so many things right, that the bad boss battles really stand out.
Yeah that cutscene was just brimming over with awesome...

The stun baton and knife wielders were very irritating because they broke up the fluid nature of the combat. It annoyed my that thier attacks couldn't be countered.

The stealth sections were super fun. It was really fun to plan out the strategy to terrify and take down the goons one by one in various sadistic ways...

I'm glad you enjoyed it that much too though, the game did almost everything really well.

PS jumping off the clock tower never got old!
When are you on the clocktower? At what part?

I have to agree with others that have said the Scarecrow scenes are the best. Rest of the boss battles were good but nothing too amazing.

Atleast the final Joker battle wasn't as much a let down as Fable 2 end "fight", now THAT was an anti-climax to an otherwise great game.

Um, at the part where you're randomly exploring the game world...

YOu can get up on to the tower with your grapple. There's a couple of riddler puzzles to solve up there too.

I really enjoyed most of the boss battles in Arkham Asylum. They all felt true to the opponent and Batman's fighting style. Only complaints were niggling little things like: this area should be bigger (Poison Ivy).

And then.

The final boss is a joke (No pun intended). And not the good kind! NOT something the Joker would do in my opinion. And I am rather a Batman nerd.
The Joker turning himself into the hulk felt very out of character. That made it stand out against the rest of the game wich was so in character.

It's still the best game I've played the year though.
