That is brilliant. If I ever make the RPG I want to make, I'll have it programmed so that all attacks heal the enemy if the game is pirated.

And all the characters will wear eye patches and have peg legs.

AND replace the battle music with "YOU ARE A PIRATE!"

Subtlety be damned.

NO WAIT I GOT IT. Every attack, instead of doing anything, will cause all the characters (in their pirate gear) to dance to that song in its entirety. Then the enemies get their turn to attack as normal.

If i were a Dev i'd do this kind of thing without a doubt, mine would be slightly different, id have the game make extremely loud "White Noise" as well as some other creative Pirate-repellent.

DRM is DRM, whther "creative" or not. If it stops you playing the pirated game, it's effective, full-stop.

[blockquote]The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free.

It's not a bug in the game's code, it's a bug in your moral code.[/blockquote]
Awesome squared. Cubed even.

The thing with DRM like this would be embedding it in the game to a point where you essentially would have to rewrite the entire game to get rid of it.

that's such an awesome and funny way to deal with pirates, if they did it correctly then it would be hard for the pirates to circumvent

I have to say that this is quite possibly the best idea I've ever heard of. Good work on the part of Rocksteady.

Next step: "leaking" a "cracked" version of a game on the net, which turns out to be a demo that shuts down 20 minutes in to say: "Insert Credit To Continue" or "You are NOT morally superior."
"Insert Credit to Continue" Would be perfect.

No! "The police are on their way". Oh my god, if I could record their reaction...
You should be put in control of many things that I don't enjoy, so I can laugh at the misfortune of those that cross your path.

OT: Well, I'm sold. This game deserves to receive my money after an incident like this.

Hopefully this isn't the only DRM that they put in, it would be so frustrating for pirates to have to patch something like this and discover in the next level that one small but vital element was missing to complete the level, and so on...

Eventually it would get to the point where Pirates aren't sure whether the level they are on is just naturally difficult or if they need to come up with a patch. It would make them so paranoid and frustrated.

Also making it so that every other level is an escort mission with an annoying Robin, constantly screaming, "Holy eyepatch Batman, the Pirates have got me!" would be awesome

That is simply hilarious, very creative on the game devs part. I hope more and more titles begin to copyright their games like this. Also thumbs up to the fantastic "It's a bug in your moral code" response. That's just kickass.

It's no more efficient than any other kind of DRM, but it certainly is funny.

Naah, the best one would just be freezing the game and showing a progress bar with "DELETING FILES..." above it.

Or just the "Internet Connection" symbol and the address (email address? Brick and mortar address? I.P address?) of the local police station.

Hmm. I might see about getting a job in creative DRMs :D

Did you see the one for Crysis where all the guns fire chickens instead of bullets
or Mirrors edge where you get to mission four and then faith stops being able to run
