Just what is needed a fungis that is specially designed to eat humans. one mutation and before we know it we have a zombie out break. Don't believe me, such fungi already exsist in nature.

That is amazingly disgusting.
It's way less disgusting than festering in a coffin for decades.
I'm still getting cremated though.
That, or I'm donating my body to science to become a post-mortem cyborg.

I seriously don't get this. I mean, I read the bit about the formaldehyde, but just don't do that then. This is not a problem that needs a drastic solution. And until today I didn't even know anybody still used embalming fluid. Why would you? I really don't get any part of this other than the potential for horror movie scenarios.

Sky Burials. It's how we should all choose to go. That or get ground up into fertilizer. I myself would love to fertilize a baby oak or somefin. http://cogitz.com/2009/09/11/sky-burial-eco-friendly-funerals/ <<<Graphic images etc. etc.
Wanted this ever since reading Sandman, but it's illegal here due to being ecologically unsafe or some such shit. Still putting it in my will to mess with the people who have to deal with it, though.

I thought this idea was really cool, until I reached the part about "letting the mushrooms consume her hair, skin, and nails." O.O Uhhh...perhaps we should hold on the live-human experimentation. And yeah, it does sound like the kind of thing that could go horribly wrong and begin a pandemic of man-eating mushrooms.

Which would indeed make a great apocalyptic story. Dammit, why didn't H.G. Wells write about that?

There are some experiments where you can't really understand the reasoning behind - or the use of - the intention, the conduction, or the result of the experiment.

And there are some experiments where you don't see the reason behind, or the use of, any of them.

The definitely belongs in the latter category.

Shiitake and oyster mushrooms both consume wood, not meat. You can grow them on a log, on sawdust, and even books... but not on a corpse. They just aren't equipped to digest that.

It's still an interesting statement she's making, but she could realize it much better by doing her research and finding species of fungus that have actually evolved to digest that kind of food source.

In fact it really puts a dent in her credibility that she claims to be experimenting like this when in fact there is the appearance of not even having bothered to get ankle-deep into the mycology aspect of it.
