So yeah, why not? Fire away.

And just as a note, this has to remain anonymous, and there is some stuff I can't go into (black friday ad, next week's ad) that I can't talk about.

I'll start you off easy.
What was the greatest workday you've had there?

And how often do you feel the urge to go somewhere out of view and facepalm?

Do you get discounts? Could you get me one?

When the store is closed, are you allowed to use the biggest plasma-screens there to play video games?

Greatest workday- when I was told I was moving out of cashier and into gaming.

facepalm- almost every day. We get a lot of customers who are completely tech-ignorant, but these are okay, its just a matter of explaining, like Wii MotionPlus, I have to explain that at least 10 times a day. When we get customers who think they know everything about a product, and they are completely misinformed, that grinds my gear. I have had to tell people, who claimed they were hardcore gamers, that a 360 does not have a blu-ray player, that the limited edition CodMW2 360 is no different than a regular 360, that sends me over the edge, and god forbid they start trying to help other customers. When some guy told a woman that the PsP plays DS games, I almost lost my cool and started yelling, and kicked him out of the store.

Have you ever wanted to punch a customer?

[sub]Also, it doesn't feel smart saying "FIRE away"[/sub]

EDIT: And in that case, why and how many times?
See previous post.

How many times have you said "good quality"?
Everything we sell is "good quality" Somethings are just "better quality" than others.

No, we have to say that everything is good, and that some things are just slightly better than others. Case in point: I had to translate spanish to english in Home Theater, and I learned I couldn't say that LED had higher contrast ratios than Plasma and LCD. Everything in the store was good, and I really couldn't say that anything was outright better.

10% above what Best Buy pays for a product. For video games consoles and such, we get nothing, but on wires... its almost scary what we get. We can only gift with our discount, we can't buy something and resell it.

Sometimes, we'll use a big TV to watch a new DVD, never play video games on it though. Actually, that isn't a half bad idea.

I've never been to best buy, not being American, but from what I hear on the interblag, you have a rubbish complaints department, is this true?
I don't know if you'd call it rubbish. If you call and complain with a valid complaint, and a manager is able to confirm it, you may get a gift card, but I don't suggest trying, as the managers are very intelligent, and rarely let anything through without a thorough investigation.

Do you have secret wars with the other stores? I always imagined a sort of Gangs of New York type situation

For my birthday last year, my girlfriend took me to Best Buy and told me to pick out something I wanted, nonetheless I got a graphics card a new 18.5in monitor and an employee informed me to use my Nvidia Geforce 8400 and to go with it I was informed by an employee (who was not a member of GeekSquad) I needed a 400watt power supply which would cost an additional $80.

My question is, have any of your co-workers ever conn-ed anyone into buying something they didnt absouletly need just to make a sale?

So do the people in the computer department try to fuck people over with computer support plans? I would never buy a computer from Best Buy but my girl friend did and when her HD was crappin out on her she took it in and they said nothing was wrong and refused to fix it. So do you guys only replace computers on a plan if they are on fire or something?

Do you believe it is the consumers responsibility to know exactly what they need in a computer before going there, or should they be comfortable with the knowledge level of the employees to get what they need?

This stems from a bad experience I had buying the computer I have now. I specifically told them I wanted to be able to play the latest games on it, I did not want to have to upgrade, and they guaranteed that the computer they sold me would be just fine. I am much more tech savvy now then I was then, but ended up walking away with a Gateway GT5674 which can't play a damn thing. I was quite pissed, and would never trust those people again, they were obviously just trying to make the sale and get me out of the store.

To clerify my above post:

Yes I should have more awareness towards purchases being made, but the employee reasoned with me, saying I absolutely had to have the power supply when in fact I ran the 8400graphics card fine on a 250watt stock supply. Sorry for the confusion.

What the hell is Best Buy?
What the hell is Black Friday?
Is there a Good Mourning the day before Black Friday?

Is working in retail as soul destroying as everyone says?

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when stores have huge sales. It's the unofficial starting point of the Christmas shopping season. Stores are regularly swamped with customers all day, so it's generally considered unpleasant to work that day. It's called "Black" because it's the time of the fiscal year when stores tend to start operating in the profit zone, I believe.
