Why the heck do you people eat mayonnaise with chips? I will never understand that!

Is that stupid trend still going on where people would record videos of themselves jumping around to electric music? I forgot what it was called, but i heard it was the single most irritating fad to have come out of Holland.
1. well its tasty
2. its called "jumpstyle" it was very popular a few years ago but its pretty much dead today

Ok here's a question, how come they never do English dubs of their movies? Dutch cinema is getting up to par to Hollywood. Last two Dutch movies I've seen, Black Book and The Alzheimer Case, would have been somewhat successful here in the states, but most American's are stupid and can't handle reading a movie.
maybe its because of lazyness most US movies always get subbed (except for the kids movies)

Do you live in the Province 'Holland'?

If not, then you live in the Netherlands. There's a huge difference between "holland" and "the Netherlands". you should know that being Dutch. Oh, and stating it as 'I live in the suburbs of Holland' it would imply that Holland is a city?

Okay, lets see. Do you dislike "Limburgians" for any trivial reason?

No hate? Really? I have many stories from people and read about them in newspapers that more than half the country can't stand Limburgians because of dialect and many other silly trivial reasons. You are not one of them prejudiced people. I salute you, sir.

Actually, Holland is a degenerate of the Dutch word 'Houtland' (translated 'woodland') as far as I know. The Netherlands, in Dutch 'de Nederlanden' a.k.a. 'de lage landen' was called that way because we are living on such a flat piece of land. Though we do have two provinces called North and South Holland but that was because the republic of Holland (yes we were a republic :p) had 7 provinces when this country got a name.

(Anyone correct me on this if I might be wrong)

Is it true you can have sex with 12 year olds legally in holland?
Whats your favorite football team?
what happened to the plan to merge holland and belgium into 1 country?
what is the % of foreigners there and which countries are they from?
Is it true people don't love Cruyff anymore over there?

Time to throw some Historic facts around! I love doing that!
During the Golden Ages that the 7 provinces experienced Holland was the most powerfull of these 7. Across the continent The Lowlands were called Holland just due to this fact. Now the Netherlands actually consists of parts of belgium as well, atleast if we were to have kept the borders in this "golden age" period. Named after the flat land like you said in your post.

Nowadays, the Netherlands are known as the 12 provinces the country consists of. The Kingdom of the Netherlands includes Suriname and those Islands ( Aruba etc.). The 'status' Holland had in the Golden Age is long gone, and "Holland" is nowadays just the Province and not the country.

So to conclude: Holland nowadays is called that way because of many a centery ago. But basicly, my first comment covered it correctly. though your post is correct on other parts as well. We should share this historical fact cookie.
