Oh fuck no. Not these again. We just got rid of these fucking threads. Why is this place infested with morons lately? And why would I want to ask a geek girl? If a chick is soo much of a loser that she becomes a geek then there is nothing I would want to know from the failure.
Congratulations: You just won 'The Escapist Annual Being Kicked In The Head For Being An Idiot Award' Or TEABKITHFBAIA for short (it really needs a better name) Your prize this evening is being klicked in the head and told your an idiot. Which you are.

Yes, and thus in saying "the average view" you finally acknowledge that it is an opinion. It is not fact. Don't get me wrong, you're totally welcome to your opinion, but I would suggest you try to reign in yout tendency to attack anyone with a differing opinion whilst defending your own as fact. For instance, beauty is completely subjective yet you discount someone else's opinion by telling them it isn't a matter of opinion. As there is no equation governing beauty or any scientific study into the matter, and others have expressed opposing opinions to yours, that in itself is evidence that the argument is not black and white and is indeed subjective.

If you want to argue that people always look better with make-up then how about you show us some before and after photos instead? After all, you're the person who was trying to say that your opinion is absolute fact. It's your responsibility to prove everyone else wrong, not the other way around. Also, for the record, make-up IS used on actors to conpensate for a variety of lighting conditions, not because of some general consensus that make-up makes everyone look better. You see, in this respect, unless you have been involved in film making to any significant extent you don't have the authority. As a several times paid extra (yes, in hollywood movies) with plenty of experience with amateur film making, I can tell you for a fact that make-up is mostly used to compensate for lighting. Yes, it can be used to enhance an actor or actress' appearence, but that is not the primary reason for it, ie when shooting on location some people will need make-up and others won't.

As for the goat, you realise that fur, much like eyelashes, eyebrows, etc is made of hair, something that there are many, many products for, right? So, the only thing that makes it a "retarded question" (oh, and way to insult someone without provocation there) in your eyes is the fact that you strongly believe (probably) that animals would look ridiculous in make-up. As it happens, I would agree with you there, but it is still just an opinion, no matter how popular that opinion may be.
Ah but I'd say that anyone who 'prefers' women without make-up is not being honest with themselves. All guys I have met who do not like women with make-up are not good looking at all, and if they were honest with themselves, they would like a gf who wears make-up BUT due to their lack of looks, they do not think this is possible, and so warp "I think women with make-up are attractive, but for me, unachivable" into "I don't like women who wear make-up."
It's the exact same situation with the girls I have met who are into skinny guys and say they don't like buff guys.
Enough alcohol down the throats of either the guy or girl, and you do eventually (I have found) get the truth out of them, but people are almost all too insecure to admit this.
No scientific studies into the matter?:
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/love-sex/attraction/the-science-of-magnetism-926693.html
There are loads.
As for better with make-up:
http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:eek:fficial&hs=av6&um=1&ei=MfEOS_uoJ-bPjAfGytiLBA&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=celebs+without+make+up&spell=1&start=0
And again, please find me a major film scene (Hollywood) where an actor or actress has no make-up, without it being relative to the story e.g. in a prison.

Basically, if everyone was secure in their looks, nature intends them to look for healthy partners, and make-up allows women, and men I guess, to achieve this end and fulfil that subconscious desire. Only people aren't always happy with how they look and let their own looks cloud what they perceive as attractive.
For example, I have never met an attractive girl that didn't wear make-up or a good looking guy that disliked make-up. Coincidence? Doubt so.
As for the animal question, it's still f**king retarded, as make-up is developed for humans, not goats. It's like asking "If you like a polished car, what do you think about using car polish on a tree?"
The psychological study you've linked to is like any psychological study in that it still only proves a consensus of opinion. If you were trying to say that a specific brainwave pattern is generated by specific emotional stimulus then yes I would take that as proof, but all you hav mnaed to prove is that a mojority shares an opinion. Again, that's fine, but stop being so arrogant as to presume that your opinion is anythng more than that. As far as people who prefer 'women' without makeup deluding themselves, are you a psychologist? If not, then you're just being arrogant again. I know individuals who actually hate make-up because of how fake it is. I don't agree, I think it works on some people and others don't need it. Some otherwise beautiful women can look (in my opinion) worse with make-up on, regardless of how well applied it is. If someone who is stunning without makeup on wears it for no reason, yeah, sure it can enhance their look, but it can also look desperate and unnecessary.

As for "It's like asking "If you like a polished car, what do you think about using car polish on a tree?"", no. It really isn't. Humans and animals are made of flesh and blood. It may be of different types, but it's still the same fundamental thing. It's more like saying "If you like a polished car, what do you think about using car polish on any miscellaneous metallic object that is intented to look aesthetically pleasing?". That is VERY different.

You say that "people aren't always happy with how they look and let their own looks cloud what they percieve as attractive". Yes. Exactly. But it's all about perception. Attractiveness is based on perception. Sure there are evolutionary factors involved, but it's still entirely down to the perception of the individual. What we all consider beautiful is based on cultural conditioning, hence the fact that some cultures find completely different things attractive. Your supposed scientific evidence is based upon western 'civilised' values. Again, it is not fact, it is opinion.

Sorry, but you're not going to win this and I'm frankly sick of arguing, as it's pretty much all I've seen you do around here (jump into a thread, say something that you know people will disagree on, talk down to anyone who disagrees, and then claim victory when they get sick of banging their head against a brick wall). I'm not gonna get drawn further into it, I gave you the chance to gratiously admit that you opinion is just that: an opinion, but you passed it over in favour of stubborn ignorance/arrogance, so I'll leave you to carry on with your particular brand of trolling. It's fine, just go about what you do, I was just curious to find out whether to give you the benefit of the doubt as a rational individual or just avoid your posts like the plague. Good luck in your quest for a perpetual self-esteem boost, but I'm opting out of participating right now. Oh, and I really hope Kevin Smith knows the kind of douchery that you're attaching to his image. That is all.

What do you consider a ?Geek Boy? to be like?
What interests does he need to have?
And what geeky things will want to do with him ?(I can only imagine)
I think a Geek Boy must, at least be mostly conversant in Geek Speak. (ie, having a laundry list of quotes from cult classics at the ready for any occasion) There are so many options for different kinds of geeks it's hard to pin down specific necessities of interest. (although I have been known to deny a persons geekiness if they saw and didn't at least like Firefly)

As for geeky things to do with him? I'm a big convention fan(if you date me, you will be forced to couple-cosplay, make your peace with it). There's all forms of games(I'm a self-confessed back-seat gamer if it's one-player, so beware), and even the non-digital ones like table-top and LARP. A good geek girl can turn any of these things romantic.
My question: All these things sound extremely fun! Why the hell can't I find a girl like you? I find some gamer girls and a few bookish girls but I want a girl who knows who Sinestro is!!

Edit: also am I the only one who thinks a Carol/Hal couples cosplay would be a really amusing idea?

Cake or Pie?!
That depends. Is it cherry pie? Is the cake frosting made of real sugar so you can feel the grains in your teeth when you bite it?

[sub]Triple Gonzo!
congratulations[/sub]

So, with the relationship thread and the minor male-female numbers discrepancy on my mind I thought it might be fun to give myself a challenge. Other females feel free to join me in the question-answering.

Is there anything you've always wanted to ask about Geek Girls, that... well, we're not quite so rare anymore, but certainly a unique breed of female? Keep in mind that any questions asked just to annoy will be ignored. Try to keep it to things you're *genuinely* curious about.
There isn't really anything different between a geek "girl" or geek "guy", you realize?
Only the girls are usually attention whores.

I know, because I am one (what you called a geek girl, not an attention whore)
I think there is some difference, which is what makes it fun when we play and frolic together. Different points of view make for better ideas and more to enjoy. There's a reason guys and girls have been making each others heads hurt for centuries.

Sorry about the thread derailment there, I will not continue with the above argument, so hopefully after the inevitable "refusing to argue just shows thet you know you're wrong" reply hopefully it'll die off.

I did post a question at the end of one of those posts, but as it's stuck in the middle of the mire I'll repost:

Do you ever hide the fact that you're female when playing online in order to avoid the peculiar brand of special treatment that girl gamers get from the '"ZOMG you're a girl!?" *immediately sends friend request to you and only you despite having said 1 sentence to you all game*' brigade?

probably id ask why or how they got into games in the first place...i mean yeah games used to be kind of a guy thing and girls would just laugh at us guys because we are kind of wasting our own time...like right now for instance
I started playing games because my brother and dad seemed like they were having so much fun, and when I finally annoyed them off the computer of NES or PS1 I had that sense of accomplishment even before I started playing. (Masters of Terras Kasi and Tribes were my favs)

Do you have a hot sister who lives anywhere near Ottawa?

How do I find you? Not you specifically as I think you're a teen, but a gamer chick. I need one stat so we can make baby's.
We go to geeky places and join geeky clubs. Although it's best to stake out the comic shops where most of the patrons know what Deodorant is. We have sensitive noses.

As a geeky girl, would you rather go to a school dance, or stay at home and watch movies or something like that?
Movies. Although every once in awhile the full moon calls us to dress up and be girly for one night a year.

Why are you so few? Where do you all hide out? I only know like 3, and out of those 3 only 1 is my friend.
i have yet to meet one sadly,

OT um okay how many gamer girls care about intelligence over physical excellence.
I tend to find that depends on HER intelligence. Smart girls prefer intelligence usually because we want someone we can respect, and pretty boys just tend to annoy us whenever they open their mouths and ruin the pretty picture they make. No offense meant to intelligent pretty boys.

Do you prefer single player campaigns, co-op game play, or competitive multi-player. Also, I would follow that up by asking if it's ever aggravating playing online as a female and if that effects your game preferences. Personally I really feel bad for the bold young ladies that would join an online match of any game. I would just give up if I were constantly harassed like that.

Why do gamers that are girls.. feel the need to proclaim that they're girls? No really, this is getting annoying. The second I saw this thread, I immediately thought of this:

You're not special. Everyone and their mom plays games now.

1) Why do (some) gamers girls have an seemingly uncontrollable urge to be attention whores and drama-queens?

2) Why do (some) gamer girls seem to think that they're so damned rare? It's not like I don't belong to a small (less than 30 active members) guild that include several women in its' membership.
1) I have a long list of theories on this. Some involve daddy not paying enough attention to her. Some involving societal expectations. But the simple answer is they're girls and (unlike me) don't want to turn into "one of the guys."

2) Well, mostly because many like me grew up as one of the only girls in their school more interested in playing Indiana Jones than Barbies. And we are growing in ranks on games and internet, true, but we tend to think "rare" in that we don't physically meet many other glasses-wearing nerdettes.
Okay can I ask you a question, referring to this quote here and a lot of other things you've said in here.

Are you being serious? I mean this has got to be a bit tongue in cheek, surely?[/quote

Yes, most of the first answer and some of the second is tongue-in-cheek.

I fail to see what gender has to do with making a person special. It's just a arbitrary mix of X and Y chromosomes that determines whether someone is male of female. I guess I may as well ask a question since I'm here, though;

What is your opinion of people who get really expensive gaming PCs and then mod it with lights, fans, custom paint jobs, etc.
Special? It's not the gender that makes them special. It's the rarity of meeting a geek "girl" tat makes it special.

It's not the biological shnizzle.

OT: My question has probably already been answered :(, but:

What are the signs that show someone that a girl is a geek?
Literally all the girls I've ever met (Though that is few) have never been interested or informed about games. Like, at all.
I'd be extremely shocked if I ever met a girl who bought Call Of Duty purposely for herself and played it on Veteran before anything else.

Because I've never met a girl interested in games, I mean.
There's a few different answers, but it's mostly a matter of which girls can navigate the deterrents attached to serious gaming. One being: There aren't serious games geared toward women. Far from it there are games that seem to go out of their way to insult us or give us eye-twitches. Two being: It's often considered unnatural. I asked for video games for Christmas when I was younger, and I shit you not I got THREE Barbie games. And some trivia games. It was sad. Thank Gamestop for gift receipts(Although I still have one unopened in my collection just for laughs).

Take away bodily differences and there isn't much difference, at least that I see.
Then again, I'm a pretty boy-ish girl so I'm probably being one-sided here... and I rarely play online so the only gamers I know, I know in real life and are my close friends, and very similar to me.
So yeah xD I'm definitely being one-sided.

Do you like Tetris?

xD

(._.)
In short bursts of classic game nostalgia. Or when I'm bored and want something that involves no adrenaline or over-thinking.
So which do you like more: Dr Mario or Tetris? I prefer Dr Mario...
I'd have to say Tetris because I never really played Dr Mario. Didn't get the appeal at the time.
