shabbat, as we call it, starts friday night and last through saturday til nightfall, cause we like to start holidays at sundown. as for that last one, my tanach class consisted mostly of ethical deliberation and life falling into chaos, although, to quote Lewis Black, why is yours the new book and ours the "old" one?BioHazardMan said:The Jews sold Jesus out *wink*
Which day is actually your Sabbath day? Is it Friday or Saturday?
What is a Jewish stance on the New Testament?
I have. it's awesome. you should try itjakko12345 said:have you ever sat on a chair being spun around and carried?
yeah, I'm pretty sure the only people who actual do that kinda stuff are the ultra-orthodox and even they have moved on. that kinda stuff only happened in the time where most people married to make themselves richer by having their kids marry. Circumcision... I couldn't tell ya. cue "tradition" from fiddler on the roofGralian said:Can Jews really only find partners through a "matchmaker"? That seems terribly... restricting.
Edit: Also, what's the deal with circumcision? Is it meant to represent your submission to God?
I would say that yeah, I'm zionist in the fact that I think that the Jewish people need a place to call their own in this big scary world. But I do think that Israel has devolved terribly into hypocracy. As for Gaza and the West bank, the reason they're in the position they're in is cause the government thought that it would be a good idea to use them as bargaining chips, which yeah is kind of a dark way to think of a place with people in it, but Egypt and Jordan didn't want to negotiate, so the two areas are still sorta stuck in limbo to this day. people got out of Gaza, but I do think it's unfair that there are hassids are trying to expand by just setting up camp in the middle in territory that shouldn't be israel's domain.Baradiel said:Are you a Zionist and do you approve of what Israel is doing in Gaza and the West Bank?
Also, do you practise Judaism or are you ethnically Jewish, or both?

I don't have a problem with religious jews, but the fact that some of the don't consider me a jew, because I'm not jewish is an issueRebellionXXI said:I've got two:
1: Is there any tension between Jews who see Judaism as a cultural thing and don't believe in a personal God, and those that believe in the theology?
2: What's your opinion on Israel, and their relationships with their neighbors?
Sadat accepted resolution 242 almost as soon as he assumed presidency, and made it obvious to the USA that he was more than willing to cooperate for peace. Jordan has never been particularly zealous about "Destroying the Zionist Entity", and has repeatedly wavered in the face of Israeli aggression. So much so, King Hussein forcibly evicted the PLO from Jordan in 1970.bioshockedcriticjrr said:I would say that yeah, I'm zionist in the fact that I think that the Jewish people need a place to call their own in this big scary world. as for that last question. I'd say I'm both, more the latter than the former, because we all have little rituals that remind us of our cultural identity, and practicing religious judaism is one of them
Its not, and you shouldn't, I'll assume you're German. Yeah so that wasn't you that was a bunch of dead guys from the same country as you.geier said:I'm born in 1980, why is the second world war my fault, and why should i pay for it ?
fair enough. I personally have forgiven you guys, the nazis could have been from any country, the stuff they came up with didn't come out of nowhere, but there are definitely holocaust survivors and their families who haven't, so I guess you'll just have to live with guilt for a few more generationsgeier said:I'm born in 1980, why is the second world war my fault, and why should i pay for it ?
I'm not Jewish and I felt immediately compelled to answer your question. 18% ($36, in this case) is seen as about standard. I generally tip 20% or more for really good service, though. Of course, I don't eat $200 meals.teh_v said:So if you're Jewish what's a 7 percent tip on a 200 dollar meal and is that a fair tip?

not an ethnicity though
