I don't like the name 'red man' that would be nice of them to change it. I Think if they called it 'white man' or 'negro' chew. People would be losing it. I don't mind the picture on the package because the guy looks dignified and it's a somewhat respectful image. The irony is my grandfather used to chew the stuff and was also very vocal about not giving things names like that. Maybe they should just call it 'totem chew' or something like that.baseracer said:Are you offended by the tobacco Red Man, and do you thing it should be changed?
Hahaha! Thanks for taking it in the manner it was ment, codpeice.iron codpiece said:Well say now that sounds like a good dea... waiiiit a minute. The Redskins logo is respectful if not ignorant he's dignified looking. Chief Wahoo is a bit bothersome especially the giant nose. I'm awefully senseative about my giant nose. The Infamous Scamola said:I know this was already kinda asked before, but what do you think of Chief Wahoo of the Cleveland Indians (I mean both for name and image)? What about the Washington Redskins?
Do you think it is still more acceptable in America today to stereotype Native Americans more than other ethnic groups?
Yeah, like i said before not having taxes means not having the things taxes give.Branovices said:I didn't grow up on a reservation but I've been to them quite a few times. Isn't it hilarious how people seem to think it's so wonderful you don't pay taxes on a reservation?
Did they have a similar project out there as they did here in Michigan with taking native children from their parents and putting them with whites? They were split between different protestant sects and often beaten if they spoke their own language. It was a concentrated effort by the state to kill the culture and forcibly integrate natives into white culture. There were still some elders that remember it when I was in school. (I went to a program for native kids called "Bimaadiziwin.") I'm Odawa, by the way.
My tribe personally I don't really think so cuz we were stationed in the midwest and were pretty prepared for the europeans (or so they teach us)wewontdie11 said:Do you or did your ancestors believe that having your photo taken would take part of your soul? No but I've been meaning to at least rent it. Is it any good or am I letting my bias cloud my judgement?NoMoreSanity said:Did you play the game Prey, and if you did did you like it?
Most people will believe any rumor about what Europeans did to us back in those days. ANYTHING. Some claim we were even vivisected. I do think the smallpox thing was real though.HerrBobo said:Hahaha! Thanks for taking it in the manner it was ment, codpeice.
Anyhow, being Irish its not like I can talk about land being stolen.
Do you/your people belive that the Europen settlers actively and knowingly used biological warfare againts the tribes, such as the Fort Pitt incident in 1763?
I don't see why all the bitterness toward the guy. It's not like he found us on purpose and caused the chain of events that lead to where we are now. If he hadn't done it someone else would've eventually. In South Dakota they don't even have a Columbus Day they have 'Native American Day' instead. Due to a pretty high population of us. Most of my less educated brethren seem to think Columbus is basically the Antichrist. They tend to be the 'woe is us' types. Some even have 'anti-columbus day'Berethond said:I've got fairly strong Sioux and Cherokee ancestry, even though the intervening generations have totally wiped away the physical characteristics except green eyes and high cheekbones. If I could have a penny for every time I've heard that one... Don't count on it.Nicragomi said:The best question I've ever been asked by a tourist here is "Do the Indians still live in Teepees?"
I'm hoping that people out there in America have a little more education then that.![]()
I'm not sure I'd celebrate someone who ordered us to bring to the Spanish a quota of gold and those who failed had their hands cut off and were left to bleed to death.iron codpiece said:I don't see why all the bitterness toward the guy.
