As it stands I'm finding the majority of the game extremely dull. The only point as of yet that I genuinely enjoyed was the ship gameplay, blasting privateers. Imagine how fucking cool this game would've been had it starred a pirate captain assassin, patrolling the open seas, and meeting vessels in combat.
Holy shit on toast, I agree with you 100%. I understand Ubisoft wants the Assassin's Creed world immersed in historical events but there has to be SOMETHING to justify this happening. Too bad we'll probably never see a cool protagonist like that.
Yes, Conner has the personality of a piece of driftwood.
This is probably due to the fact that he's Native American, which for some reason automatically makes him an emotionless robot, just like every Native American character ever written.
Not that Altair was a barrel of laughs, but then his whole character was one of distance and seclusion. Plus he had his ring finger cut off which wouldn't sit well with anyone I'd wager. Conner is supposed to be bonding with Achilles, wanting to protect his homeland, and be conflicted about his father, yet he shows no passion about anything. And the "when we feel like it" time shifts don't really help with allowing the audience to get to know the guy either.

^Pretty much this.
I suppose you could argue that Connor's been dead inside ever since *Spoiler*. That could explain why he shows no emotion whatsoever... or maybe he's suffering brain damage in the areas controlling emotion; possibly caused by asphyxiation when *spoiler* choked him, or one too many falls from a tall tree.
Conner is hard to relate too, I respect some aspects of his character, he has convictions, strong morals and a clear sense of justice, albeit somewhat naive. However the plot(conner's) seemed shoehorned and really lost it's way towards the end.
Desmond's(and the trilogy's) ending was actually awful, I cannot believe it's been built up to such an embarrassingly boring, anti-climatic ending. Closure? What closure, Ubisoft?
Both Conner and Desmond's story's scream "rushed" towards the end.
On gameplay side of things, Conner pretty much seems to forget he has two hidden blades most of the time, with the exception of double air assassinations I probably got him to double ground assassinate maybe 3 times in the whole game. In combat is way more fun and fluid, but isn't this a stealth game? I didn't use my smoke bombs once. And I never got to hang a person using the scorpion-rope once. It seems like strategy, stealth and assassinations took a backseat to combat combos and "looking cool". Same thing happened with Splinter Cell: Conviction(although that was much worse)
Naval combat was best part of the game.
Btw, Adam Sandler isn't a good comparison. Watch Reign Over Me or Punch Drunk Love.
Let's call him Keanu Reeves, ok?
edit: also the PS3 port had poor graphics. FPS issues were frequent, and lots of the environments were not impressive, jagged edges etc.

I remember seeing the naval gameplay at E3 and thinking, "screw AC3, I want this".
Now the dream game that will never be, featuring a realistically rendered Wind Waker-type gameworld with you at the helm of a three-master, will forever haunt my nightmares.
I don't know how to put spoiler tags up so I will give a warning now. Nobody complain because you have been warned.
*MAJOR SPOILERS*
I don't think they will continue Connors story because Desmond died at the end. While I think they'll continue the series, a Connor sequel is not likely.

See I like Connor he grows increasingly more pissed off at the people he is trying to kill throughout the whole thing, also we share a name that might have something to do with it...
I'm probably one of the few that like Altair the most, i don't really know why, probably because he just fit the character of an actual person in his position so well, he had flaws, he was arrogant and he wasn't empathetic at all, he was clearly on a mission, he wasn't a hero really, he was rather chaotic neutral/good per say
