Ubisoft just released a trainwreck of a game and another one was already on the works? This is like call of duty but even worse. the funny thing is I should have expected something like this, but its still surprising.

What do you think about this?

Captcha: That's enough.

Seems pretty appropriate for this thread.

Well I haven't bought an Assassin's Creed game since Revelations.
I guess I'll just keep doing that then.

why does this surprise you? their release schedule has been like it is since 2010 the only difference here is we are (unintentionally I imagine) hearing about the next game while the controversy over the last one is still somewhat fresh in our minds

Its the only way they will learn, people will be wary of buying Victory after the ones released this year as well as those people who are utterly sick of the franchise every year like me and their sales are going to take a hit. Whether that hit is big enough to make them delay the game after Victory to make sure it works properly and maybe get people to miss Ass Creed a bit remains to be seen.

Also, WHERE IS BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2, GOD DAMN IT UBISOFT!!!!

What did you expect? Ubisoft has been releasing at least one Assassin's Creed game a year since Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. They released 2 this year basically at the same time, and if they want people to know about their next game they have to start hyping it pretty much immediately because they only have a year to make people tired of hearing about it. This doesn't affect me though since I refuse to buy any games in a franchise that releases yearly.

Assassin's Creed has been on a annual release schedule for years now. So long as people keep buying, they'll keep selling. What did you think was going to happen, they'd be all, "Well, that game was buggy and isn't selling so great, so we'd better cripple our profits even further by not releasing the next game."

If it's any consolation, they did release a statement that "their number one priority is improving the AC: Unity experience."

I imagine that every time it's brought up in the Ubisoft boardroom somebody clears their throat and reminds everyone about how the first game left them with so many unsold copies that they were giving them away free with packets of cheese at one point.

Plus, the main guy behind BG&E is currently pumping out Rayman games which have been doing well of late, both in terms of sales and reception. I doubt anyone is in a great hurry to shunt him off the money generator so he can make a sequel to a tanked PS2 game.

Would be nice though.

Why are you surprised? It's been an annual franchise since Assassin's Creed II.

I mean yeah the timing's a little bad considering the state Unity's in, but I think very few people are actually surprised at the fact a new one was in the works.

This why I stopped supporting Ubisoft in total, how can you make a quality game if you only have a year to develop it, then a year after that to make it's sequel? My view is that after 3 games they will have 1 they should made to begin with.

I saw the picture of Big Ben before I saw the headline containing the name of the game, so my thought process went something like this: "Ooh, a game set in London, that could be interesting because I'm English. Oh wait, its another Assassins Creed game, which will be the same old crap I got bored of in the 5th game. Moving on".

Annual releases, Annual PITA. Customers will grow annoyed and confused in time.

Looks pretty good. AC Unity was great though held back by some technical issues, which is a shame given the insane amount of detail that went into making this game. Still, I really enjoyed it. I espescially like the added control you have over your character compared to the previous games, and the 'weightier' style of the combat(though still somewhat floaty and 'off'). Graphics and lighting effects were also amazing and probably the best I've seen on new-gen systems so far.

AC Unity is pretty much a remodeling of the series with some changes I definitely liked. Hopefully Victory will have a steadier launch though. Every game in this series is like a small step towards something truly spectacular. :p

Im fine with an AC game set in London. Granted Unity was a complete mess so this is a slap advertising a new one before insuring Unity was fixed. An even though they release one a year, they still take 2 years plus to make with a lot of detail put into the eras the games are set in. Way more work than other games that are released yearly like sports games and Cod. But i enjoy my AC fix and being that i live and work in London, it will be fun running around in that city.

I don't know, this is an odd one for me.

I haven't bought an AC game in quite some time but frankly a game set in London with decent graphics sounds quite compelling to me regardless of game / story.

Yes I know all about the hell that is Unity, but first of all, this is a different team who have been working on the game in the new engine. So any issues with Unity can be used to pre emptively iron out many of these problems. I won't go into your surprise about it coming out as EVERYONE else in the thread has hammered that nail squarely in its little iron face.

And at the end of the day, grappling hook.
Its a grappling hook.
I love grappling hooks.
Ever since webslinging as spiderman on the megadrive all the way to just cause 2, its an addiction.

Grappling hook.
Lord why do I have this compulsion.

Captcha: Skynet knows ... great, I'll just go create it then ask it.

You realize their development studios are huge and these games get several years of development time but cycle their release dates to launch at least one per year, right?

OT: Yeah, not surprised at all. Same way Titanfall 2 was announced in development within a week of Titanfall launching and Destiny 2 was also supposedly in the works as well shortly after launch. Hopefully that one's just in pre-production so they can think of an actual story to tell or give something a label that doesn't include the article "the".

Assassin's Creed is now a beast over which Ubi themselves have no control. All they can do is feed it as it expands to support the company.

All I can say is, "DON'T BUY IT AT LAUNCH". Once it comes out and has been looked over by tons of reviewers I'll decide what I think of it.

You're too late. A million people just pre-ordered it when they saw the announcement. Probably because they want to see British people without faces.

Also because people have really short term memories.

"Well, Pre-ordering worked out badly with Unity, but I'm sure it won't happen again from the same series by the same company...."

I can't believe this. They pre-ordered a game set to come out next a year from now? That's just tragic.
