All those people talking about guns, you do realize you don't HAVE to use guns right? Guns are loud and make you draw attention to yourself, so there is no reason why they couldn't make the game focus on stealth etc... with guns only being needed in certain situations.

For example you need to secretly kill some guy, now if you use your sniper rifle then you get a lot of soldiers all shooting at you and hunting you down, now if you just sneak in and poison the guy you're home free once you get out.

It's a comic, the assassin is a Russian shown carrying a gun in his artwork.

I think one set during the American revolution would be cool. It could showcase how the assassins support individual liberties and fight for the people. In brothehood during (spoiler Warning)the memory sequences from subject 16 it shows that the assassins were behind the rise of democracy in the world.
No, apparently the AC writer hinted the Templars were behind the rise of America. Cuz we like to buy things or something and America is pure evil blah blah blah. He also said Obama's a fag. Don't forget Ubisoft is french.

While I think this is a better idea, I'm interested in how an era with more gun-based warfare might work in Assassin's Creed. Frankly, I think the combat would go to shit, but still...
I think so too, or on the opposite end, they may forgo the traditional combat we understand in Assassin's Creed titles entirely.

It would be a big and risky change, but a game where starting a fight meant a good chance at nearly instant death, would be interesting. Having your assassin's powers of subtlety be the main focus, hiding and running form fights would be your only tools ... lets face it, if we've played an AC game we all know how the counter button works in combat. That doesn't work so well with guns. -__-'

I think if weapons like that got involved, it would be much more stealth focused, with guns behaving like a pit trap or other obstacle to be AVOIDED, rather than fought through. Eh, it's a thought.

Assassin's Creed with the focus on guns.... no thank you.
Just for reference, setting AC during WW1 wouldn't focus it on guns. The use of swordsmen, archers, and cavalry was still ultra-common during WW1, because guns were highly inaccurate and took too long to reload (similarly, in the Revolutionary War, French and Indian War, and Civil Wars, a huge majority of the causalities were inflicted by bayonet)!

In fact, the primary counter for the rifleman was the cavalryman until the machine gun was developed. If there WAS an AC set in WW1, you can have faith knowing that you would still be using swords to fight other swordsmen. You might just have to dodge some rifles and pistols.

I think one set during the 30 years war would be great. Massive battles and devastation in the background, the Medieval institutions are falling apart, the beginnings of nationalism are all stuff you could work with there. As a bonus, firearms are widespread but are still inaccurate matchlocks, so you could have a more natural progression in your gameplay figuring guns out.

WINNER!!!

Also, the first link works fine if you just copy it into your address bar, tried it since it seemed odd only 2/3 of it made it into the actual link.

This seems to solve a lot of the 'would they go there' issues.

If they can combine the gunplay aspect with the parkour running and free-roaming, then I might buy it.

WW1 era guns were kinda...not good from what I remember of history class. I would assume it would be more effective to stealth in and stab a throat. Just a train of thought. Wonder who the new ancestor is going to be?

How would a modern Assassin's creed work anyway?

I keep thinking it'll end up as some linear-mission game like S.C or M.G.S.

Oh wait, I think I just figured it out. How about a GTA sandbox style with Hitman:Blood money Assassination gameplay? Desmond can steal cars, take a plane to Japan, U.K, America, Canada, etc. And the Templars look like Agents from the Matrix.

I want to see Rasputin, he was around in that general time period.
He would probably be immune to death though.

It would be wonderful
The latest Sherlock Holmes film would be a great reference point of how to make it look, and it's not far enough into the future that they've got to deal with too many guns (although I assume they're going to have to deal with that somehow for Desmond).
Justified lack of guns for Desmond era: If they kill Desmond while taking him, they might as well have not bothered at all.
That's very true for Abstergo, but assuming we do get future-world free-running then you've got to think about the police.

Which, incidentally, is exactly why they should take it to Britain in both eras - no guns!

But apparently the world has suffered some sort of meltdown (especially in America I think), at least according to some of the emails from the first game, so I guess you could work it in like that.

It seems that people are assuming he'd be fighting in the front line. Who says stealth and assassination never occurred in WWI? The whole think sparked off because of an assassination! The problem I have with WWI is, it's modern history, so they're going to need to be VERY VERY careful with historical accuracies.
