What I want is for AC to have more RPG elements, skills, Fallout perks, customisation, just something to make it a little more interesting and open.

I think if it set in the US then it would have to be the last in the story which would arguably end the series and its Ubisoft so I don't think they would end it so soon without tapping the possibilities. I think it would be good if it was set in Victorian London or India.

Okay, let's just curb-stomp a recurring piece of bullshit now.

The notion that Civil War America is a bad choice because there's "not enough free-running" is just bollocks. If they managed to give us massive free-running opportunities in the CRUSADES, they can give it to us in the Great Yankie Bitchslapping. All you need for a good free-running AC environment is buildings, gaps between buildings, the occasional tower and shitloads of guards with guns to get angry at you for ruining the slate.

Besides which, you people have CLEARLY not been paying attention to your inner storyteller... so pay attention to mine!

New York city, 1860. Under cover of darkness two men meet, two men who have the potential to change history. They do not speak, instead merely nodding to each other and allowing a small sealed envelope to pass between them. "Make sure this gets to General Lee," the first one whispers.
"I shall." The other replies, turning away and moving toward his carriage, unsuspecting of the shadow on the rooftops leaning in, hidden blade glinting in the moonlight.

There's a gentle sound; the sound of slate shifting. The man looks up, surprise turning to horror, and with a panic rising in his throat he screams "ASSASSIN!"
The shadowy figure looks up the street as the guards look to his rooftop. They carry Henry Rifles, and have murder in their eyes. With a grunt of frustration, the Assassin turns and runs as the roar of guns fills the night air and hot lead smashes into the chimney stacks around him.

He ducks and weaves, vaulting over streets and scampering across rooftops. The occasional bystander looks up in confusion as guards and soldiers seek to join the chase, but they are nowhere near as agile. The Assassin spots an armed man up ahead and sprints forward, grappling the man's rifle as he goes for a kill-shot. The weapon discharges, barrel well clear of its mark, and with a swift action the Assassin disarms the man and cracks his skull open with the butt of the rifle. Levering the rifle to chamber the next round, the Assassin gives himself a moment to assess his situation, and finds fate has smiled on him; he sees his mark scramble into a carriage, which promptly speeds off.

He bolts forward again, knowing the streets so well he can walk them blindfolded. The carriage screams down a main roadway as predicted, and the Assassin hurls himself into open air, landing on its roof. The outriders look on in shock as he readies the gun and blasts them down with two perfectly aimed shots. He does not know how many rounds are left in the rifle, so better to abandon it. Drawing a revolver in one hand and flexing the hidden blade in the other, the Assassin casts a glance to the driver.
"You just watch the road." He says calmly, and the terrified man obeys. He has done nothing to warrant his death tonight.
He leans down, peering into the dark of the carriage, but his instincts are sharp and screaming at him; a smart man would have a gun in there, and a VERY smart man would have heard the Assassin hit the roof.

He hurls himself aside as bullets smash through the wooden roof of the carriage. Six shots, he's out of ammo, but he may have another gun ready. No time to waste, the Assassin swings over the side, kicking the door in with a two footed strike and, before his victim can take aim, slamming home the hidden blade. The Templar's eyes go wide, and he slumps backward without a word. Carefully, the Assassin retreives the envelope and unseals it, staring at the contents with horror; it is blank.
"You're too late." the Templar gurgles. "By now our true courier will be long gone! We will plunge this country into civil war, and there is nothing you can do to stop us!"
The Assassin scowls at the man, his features thrown into sharp relief by the carriage torches.
"We shall see." He replies, thrusting his blade home again to extinguish the Templar's life. He jumps clear of the carriage, rolling on impact, and vanishes into the alleyways as the observer's viewpoint rises over the rooftops, over the bustling, industrious landscape of New York city, and fades to black.

Who the hell would NOT want to play that?

Also: You should write stories for a living!
That was as good as a lot of actual expensive, paid for books I have read!
Once I get around to doing the proof-reading and tidying up, I'll have a 50K word novel to buy on lulu. :p

I want it to be in industrial revolution london -- it hasn't been done all that much in games and could be incredibly atmospheric. Plus I think we all love cockney accents :)

Does no-one think that since you'll play as Desmond in AC3 that other time periods are unlikely?

If it's set in another place like England or Ireland that would be really awesome!
America would be a no.
France even!

AC3 set in America... hmmm...

Oh yeah...

Assassins Creed 3: National Treasure

XD

(By the way, not being a troll - it's possible if they do it properly, perhaps in an early industrial revolution setting?)

I can't think of anywhere in Civil War era America that AC's gameplay would really work, so I hope they either pick somewhere else or know about some place I don't. I think AC really lends itself to large, well-established cities filled with backstabbing and unrest, which isn't really something the Civil War was about.

Assassin's Creed should be set in Japan for the next game. I would enjoy it so much more if all the characters were Japanese!
Isn't there already an assassin game set in Japan?

Namely Tenchu?

I always thought it was pretty obvious they planned to take it into a present day setting, possibly in different international locations...

Here's a plot that is guaranteed to provide A) an epic game, and B) piss off the yankies; Have AC3 focus on Thomas Plunket!

For those who do not know, Thomas Plunket was a member of the Greenjackets, one of the greatest regiments in British history. Thomas Plunket scored a MUSKET kill from around 400 metres on a French General, reloaded and scored a SECOND 400 metre kill on the trumpet major who ran forward to save the downed commander.

Plunket eventually retired, and gave up his pension in exchange for land in canada. A year later he returned to England, citing the land was "unsuitable."

In other words, we have a supremely kick-ass warrior who travels to the North American continent (where we know there are ancient ruins the Assassins and Templars are looking for) and only stays for a year before returning to England. That sounds to me like a character who can easily be re-written to suit the AC Metaplot.

So, why does this piss off yankies? Face it, they'd NEVER accept a British hero on a game set on "their" continent! XD
just one issue there man. it wasnt a musket. it was a baker rifle. sorry. bit of a history buff. also, plunket was irish buddy.

Its just America is so overdone in video games, its the setting for most games out there and I just find it refreshing when a game takes it upon itself to be different. Instead of conforming to the country with the largest market.
Buddy, who do you think Ubisoft Montreal was "conforming to" when they made the other installments? Italians? Gazans? Probably not exclusively, but because (at least since the last time I checked) the U.S. is the world's largest gaming market, they most likely had it in mind when creating the games. Sure geography is kind of influential when it comes to game-making, but designers don't start creating games by brainstorming different target audiences and then tailoring to that audience's whim. You're saying that even if it were an entertaining and engrossing assassin's creed experience in a different setting you wouldn't play it simply because you think the designers were doing it for the publicity? Since, you know, retconning it in that the Assassins were behind communism was totally non-conformist and true to the theme. You're argument is based in bias.

If they make it work, I'll be happy. Though assassins in the Civil War would seem a bit of a stretch for me, but that's just my love for the hidden blade talking. If it works out well setting-wise like the previous games, I'll definitely buy.
