Feudal Japan. Put some stealth ninja gameplay and it should be fucking awesome

..still don`t get it why ppl what the victorian age
Probably because it's very rarely exploited. We've all seen ninjas and, quite frankly, most AC fans want a fresher setting (I've pretty much gotten over fanboying the Far East anyway.) Im pulling for the Early Americas myself, including the French and Spanish colonies, what with the whole "New World Order" thing.

Some place without Ubisoft's DRM, perhaps.

That's the only setting that interests me.

After the end off ACII, I'm surprised more people didn't come to the conclusion that I did. I think that you're going to take full control of Desmond in the "present" and take part in his fight against the templars. I mean, they basically handed you all the abilities of Ezio in that warehouse tutorial level thing right in the middle of the game, and why give Desmond the abilities if he isn't going to use them?

I'm kinda looking forward to it. Assassin's Creed gameplay in a near-future setting could be incredibly fun.

EDIT: I also just rememebered
what that "God" hologram lady says after you kill the Pope (lol). She addresses Desmond directly and places the responsibility on him, and Ezio was just a tool to do so.I'd be shocked if we weren't in control of Desmond next time.
I thought that too, it's probably modern or bust. That said, there's no constraints with spin-offs.

To be honest you have just sold Victorian England to me. It has brilliant architecture, long narrow winding streets, were people could easily disappear. And I can't recall a game ever being set there before, it would be a very unique and interesting game.
indeed i was thinking this

The team behind Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have indicated that they don't have any real interest in taking the next game in the series to a WWII setting, and I don't blame them. The Big One is pretty well-heeled territory, game-wise. They've also said that they're not much interested in setting the next game in Japan, being as the Japanese obviously have their own historical context for assassin culture.

So, I'm wondering what the opinions are on where the next game ought to take place? Personally, I'd love to see it go to Victorian-era England. The architecture style of the period would lend itself very well to the game's style. Plus, it was an extremely colorful period in history with a lot of political subtext that would no doubt tie nicely into the storyline. Not to mention the possibility for cameos...H.G. Wells could be that game's DaVinci. They never did explain what happened to Jack the Ripper, did they? Maybe another of Desmond's ancestors was tasked with taking him out due to the rumors that he was a privileged consort to the royal family. Jules Verne could pop over from Paris. And how much fun would it be to climb the Westminster Clock Tower as a viewpoint, swim the Thames, or weave in and out of the pools of cobblestone shadow between gaslights?

Anyone else have any ideas?
The American Civil War

Victorian-Era England(with maybe the Assassin either being Jack the Ripper, or hunting Jack the Ripper as part of a mission)

WWII probably wouldn't work, but I would like to see a game take place in America in that time period. Don't go killing nazi's in the battlefield but maybe kill spies. And maybe it could be like the last level of ACII where you to a different city for one level, and since it is implied that Hitler was a templar, maybe you could go to Germany. And by exploring America, this would allow the franchise to move in a more modern direction smoothly without suddenly thrusting people into the present with modern day technology.

The Cold War could work well in the same way. And it could be interesting for Desmond since it could be his grandfather who he actually might have known.

Gotta go with victorian england. It just seems a natural step in progression after 2.

Plus, dapper top hats.

How could you say no?

I would have to say Europe or the United States during the Industrial Revolution. Interesting architecture and bringing in new elements with greater technology could be a great step for the series. That being said, I don't want Assassin's Creed to evolve into a shooter: the farther they go into the future, the more the lingering "guns" question hangs in the air. I'm interested to see how they handle Desmond's rebirth as an assassin, as it is in the near future, guards with swords would just be ridiculous; likewise, plasma rifles would just be unfair.

True. Which is why I just keep coming back to the Victorian period, I guess. Guns existed, certainly, but they weren't particularly prevalent, accurate, nor efficient. Especially in England, where they're STILL not a big part of the culture. So I imagine a few avoidance/disarming maneuvers might be all you'd really need in order to more or less deal with the gun issue.

Apart from that, given the politics, history, architecture, characters, and the fact that the era has been vastly under-represented in video gaming, it still just seems like the perfect setting.

World war one would be very interesting. Then they would probably build some sort of assasins vs templars cospiracy around Gavrilo Princip (the guy who assassinated the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria ,and thus indirectly kick-started ww 1 ), maybe even make him a descendant of Ezio. I mean, it's not that far from Italy to the Balkan...

Anyway, it would be cool if it took place during ww 1 as, it has been underrepresented for way too long. Even though it has a lot of possibilities: the dawn of flight, Nikolaï Tesla still being alive(wich is allways a good thing), gas warfare, scientific discoveries...

*edit* After reading the rest of the post, I must say that victorian England would be very awesome too.

Well logically it would/will take place in somewhere in Europe or America, and when I say America I mean early on, settling, but since settling begun in 1497 and brotherhood is taking place in, well starts in 1503, so unless it happens during the same time it would probably be in the civil war!

But i'm not sure where I want it to be, but i'm sure it'll be fun!

I think what you said about Victorian England would be a great idea, the setting and architecture would be perfect.

But I also like the French Revolution set in Paris and other large cite's, you could start the game as an assassin for the Resistance until it begins to tear itself apart with anger and fear and you send Robespierre to the guillotine.

China, 1900ish. The fall of the Qing Dynasty. A period ruled by warlords. An uprising against foreign powers. Internal rebellions. Humiliating defeats at the hands of foreigners. Not to mention it can be linked to Marco Polo or foreign expeditionaries.

Moving to Russia: War (without trenches). 2 revolutions in one year. Many assassinations. AND the Tsar was mentioned in AC2.

Both have great freerunning environments. In fact, do one game on each... like they are doing with AC Brotherhood.

Alright, I was originally typing a bunch of speculation, but screw where I imagine it probably will take place, here are the ones I'd simply like to see:

Colonial America
Victorian England
Medieval England
Wild West
Feudal Japan
American Civil War
Ancient China

Depending on how AC changes when guns replace the sword as your main weapon, I wouldn't mind seeing a present day setting either. But I guess the same could be said for some of the one's I listed.
