According to Ubisoft, Revelations will be the last of the Assassin's Creed 2 continuations, and 3 will have a new main character and setting. With a little over a month before we get more definitive evidence/answers, what are your thoughts?

Will Desmond finally get a game centered around him, or maybe some new historical time period between the Renaissance and now?

British Female Assassin, voiced by Jennifer Hale and set in Victorian England.

If this does not happen, then I will be forced to kill two hostages every hour.

I thought it was going to be the Revolutionary War or something. In AC:B you find coordinates that lead to 'Merica. That'd be pretty trippy, plus guns would still be pretty slow so you could get all the melee in. Assassin's creed doesn't work too well if your enemies have modern weapons.

I'd personally really like if they had one during the French Revolution or maybe feudal Japan. I think they'll probably just focus on Desmond mostly for the next one, though, based on how the story is going. Maybe after that they can explore other eras?

The biggest problem with moving the era of Assassin's Creed beyond the era of firearms more advanced than the crude arquebus we see in Brotherhood is that the entire gameplay style of the AC series is that it's about up close killing, and having it set in a modern setting would effectively neuter the credibility of the series' enemies. It makes no sense to have everyone wielding police batons and stun sticks if the grand majority of modern day North Americans are allowed to own firearms. Add on top of that the fact that the Templars are one of these shadowy above-the-law type private superpowers and the likelihood of 95% of enemies having semi-automatic handguns jumps dramatically.

But, you can't move back in time either, because that would indicate a loss of progress to the player. If you go back before the Italy-based Brotherhood discovered things like the power of the Papal staff and the existence of the Apple of Eden, then you're regressing instead of progressing, which is anathema to the very concept of story-driven videogames.

Considering these things, theemporer's suggestion of an AC set during the French Revolution is the best I've heard yet. Still black powder weapons, society is in an enormous upheaval (which I'm sure Ubisoft would have no problem pinning on the Templars) and the geographical location is close enough to Italy to justify one of Desmond's ancestors existing there (as opposed to Japan, which ancestry no one in the current team can plausibly claim). I like it.

Wouldn't mind them doing Japan during the Meiji Restoration its in the late 1800s and you could have the Tokugawa shogunate play the role of Templars and maybe the Choshu and Satsuma samurais the Assassins guild. China could also be done the Qing court being controlled by Templars and a Han rebels the Assassin's guild.

Having a degree in history I can say there's far more interesting periods of time now that the Crusades and Renaissance has been done. If it has to be in Europe again make it in England with King Henry VIII during his act of supremacy.

Either way I'm tired of European settings and Colonial America seems like it'd be redundant and boring. There's a lot more potential with Japan or China, that and there hasn't been a decent feudal ninja game this gen. (Tenchu Z failed & Ninja Gaiden is far from traditional)

The Assassin is actually Jack the Ripper.
Ooh, and the authorities are the Templars who are purposefully demonizing Jack the Good-guy Assassin, turning the public against him. Finally, a story with depth.

Czarist Russia. Let's see just how much stabbin' Rasputin can take. French revolution or Victorian England are other good times.

I think a WW2 Era AC game could work. You would just be forced to be more stealthy in what you do, because with modern weapons it is that much easier for them to kill you.

No even better Christopher Columbus goes to the New World to fight Templars disguised as innocent natives.

I can literally see that entire game before my eyes, and it looks epic. This is my new preferred setting.

Play as Ned Kelly in Australia. Kill police officers. Steal from the rich, give to the poor. Fuck bitches. Kill the king of Europe. His armor is a piece of Eden.

I should be a writer or an author or something.

If Assassin's creed continues to follow Black Adder, the next game will either take place during the Nepolionic wars or the American war of independence.
Personally Napoleon's conquest would make for an interesting back drop; where they had rifles with only one good shot, so the sword isn't made redundant.

I would put money on the fact that Columbus would be labeled as a Templar. He enacted genocide on an entire group of people for the sake of profit; Ubi would not give him the title of Assassin or any sort of protagonist.

For those mentioning somewhere in Asia, keep in mind that they must be an ancestor of Desmond, whose lineage does not go into Japan.

I think an AC game could work up until about WW1. As long as most guns only fire one shot before reloading, and they add some sort of Matrix-style bullet dodging mechanic, then I would love to see an eighteenth-century Assassin.
Oh, wait. I forgot about revolvers. Those would be bad.

Oh, God... oh, God... I could be next!

Wait a minute; That's a novel idea! Let me join you!

No seriously, I don't want to jump straight into Desmond's story before I've at least gotten to play as a female. It's just the right thing to do.

Ideally the period would be when society is in upheaval, and could be blamed on a war between the Assassins and the Templars. The French Revolution would be fantastic for that, and the extent of the following wars allows for so many different settings. I remember someone suggesting trying to save Nelson's life at Trafalgar, which would include ship-to-ship combat and travel. Suitably epic methinks.

Another possibility would be late Tsarist Russia, except that has already been explored in comics.

Personally, I'd prefer it not to be the American Revolution. While that period hasn't been done to death per se, the setting of America has been. Also, in terms of gameplay the cities weren't as built up as Paris or London, so free running might be impacted.

All in all, I'd much prefer the French Revolution period.
