Geez. I had an issue with none of these things. I loved the War Machines, can't remember the camera being an issue with combat, and didn't have Ezio jump in the wrong direction enough times to say it was the game's fault and not mine. The timers offer a challenge. I failed those missions a good bit, but that doesn't really draw my ire.

I think you might be getting a bit grumpy. Grumpiness has been going around the Escapist heavy lately.
That I can agree with.... it's hard to find a thread these days where people aren't flaming eachother or being dicks.

As for the game issues, I'm glad someone had a better experience than me. I have watched a few Youtube vids though and it seems I'm not alone in my frustration!
I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to games, so my opinion may be skewed. An issue that did pop up from time to time in the Romulus Lairs was scripted events failing to initiate (happened in the maze-like one where you end up scaling the cross and the one with the party). I had to reload checkpoints, which really only made me lose about a minute of gameplay. That's really the only issue I had throughout the game.

With jumping, I ran into a wall when I meant to go to another platform a few times. I'm pretty certain that was a case of me just going on "autopilot" and not making the proper adjustments with the analog stick, though.

I had the same problems with the jumping issues and the tailing missions. The one where you follow the guy on horseback pissed me off to no end. If you get too close, the spins around and charges toward you, and no matter the distance or your next actions, he will spot you.

Also, someday Ubisoft should learn the "Restart Checkpoint" is a very valuable menu option. I remember in AC2 falling off a structure while climbing in a mission (which had numerous checkpoints while climbing), just to survive the fall and have to repeat the whole climb again. I would fall again, survive, and try to climb again (I admit I got impatient). It's my only real gripe with the serious besides the jumping controls that have a mind of their own at times.

It only happens in one area of Rome, i believe its near the market district. At first i thought it was a sound glitch, but NOOOOOOOOO. Made me homicidal.

I think I found the area today. East of the Vaticano area... very irritating indeed. CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP

The main issues I had were:

Detection & Jumping issues
I also found this to be true, that or the auto-jump was so strong I could just hold done RT and A [Xbox controller] and Ezio would pretty much do everything himself. Regardless there were no sequences I found this to be overly frustrating, but maybe that's because I found the game to be so damn good I just didn't care.

I'm in two minds about this one, on the one hand what you say is perfectly valid; on the other such timers are a great way to force the player to move quickly, and not break the immersion in other ways, without resorting to more extreme measures.

Combat and the camera
I found a few clipping issues with the camera but otherwise throughout my playthrough there wasn't an issue. I had more of a problem with the camera when I locked onto enemies than I did with the platforming sections.

Instant-fail missions
Agreed, but similarly to my comments on timers, with gameplay mechanic keeps in with the immersion of the story they wish to tell, giving the player to much freedom leads to an even easier game.

The war machines
I'm yet to experience all these machines, so I can't say much but I will say that the horse riding mechanic, after recently playing Red Dead Redemption, felt clumsy and slow.

I agree and disagree, but for the most part I'm glad we can agree it's a good game; defiantly the best in the series for me, and thanks to the gripping ending I'm already looking forward to the next installment - it beats out Bayonetta for my GOTY, which certainly says something.

Yeah it was during combat I had the camera issues for the most part, but there was the odd time it would change direction during a climb and send me flying the wrong way. I fixed it by being more patient :D

I do agree the game was not the hardest, but for me it felt like the bits that were hard were only tough due to being unfair and built on 'fake' difficulty, such as the temperamental guard alert mechanic.

The ending was awesome alright, can't wait to see what happens in AC3. I loved it but preferred AC2 (mainly due to the story and locations feeling nicer to me in it) ME2 still holds my GOTY pick!

I didn't even bother to go for 100% sync, I just happened to get it on the final memory sequence and get the achievement. Sometimes the cameras buggy.

One mission where you have to assassinate a guy without being detected by the guards, I called down the brotherhood crossbows, problem solved. The Machine missions were annoying though.

I've said it from the beginning that the controls on Brotherhood are buggy. I've spent hours doing a mission because Ezio chooses to jump in the wrong direction or do something that results in me loosing my 100% sync, and me being the anal person I am I will restart the memory so I can get that 100%

One of the big problems for me was the insta-fails.

I would be in a situation where detection equals fail.........fair enough.

Oh no that guard has detected me......so why is it an instant fail if I drive six inches of hidden blade into his chest cavity before he so much as coughs in surprise?

Surely the point would be that he shouts out something along the lines of:

"Oh bollocks there's a bloody assassin here lads raise the alarm"!!!

Unless guards were some sort of telepathic master race of psychics back in those days they shouldn't be able to shout the alarm if my bloody hidden blade is currently mating with their vocal chords!!!

I didn't really have any problems with the game in single player mode. As for the dead gaurds alerting enemys, i was always able to shoot them in the face, while they were looking at me and sometimes the yellow detection bar was climbing.

Timers were easy, Always tonnes of spare time to do what you needed. I only failed the first Romulus temple's 8 min timer because i was faffing about too much.

The only thing in the game i have a problem with is that damn gun in Multiplayer. It's ridiculous. No need to even try being stealthy on your opponent, just target and auto shoot like a CoD noob. BLAH!!!

No matter, i always beat the people who use the gun by a few thousand points anyways.

I'm the same, and for that very reason I hated the 100% sync mechanic as it made me have far less fun with the game than I did with AC2.

Well, apart from those issues it's really great, though to me AC2 was a far better game.

EDIT: Well... maybe not better, but certainly more enjoyable.

I want to damn Ubisoft for the Full synchronisation thingy.

I said to myself "Alright Ubisoft, I'll play it your way". Beleive me, I would've finished the game by now instead of the massacre I've made online.

It's a turn-off when your "perfectionnist" side takes over.

Jump detection -- this has been a bit of an issue in the first two games as you decide to leap to your death in certain climbin scenarios, but it generally works well enough for me to not get to crazy about it

Timed and insta-fail missions -- I'm not a fan but if they provide a logical reason I'm coolwith it AC2 had good and bad examples. I actually got the kill cutscene on an insta-fail mission but had to repeat because the victim detected me a moment before I killed him. All they would have needed to fix it was a locked door a few paces away to explain the insta-fail condition. Another mission involved killing a guy giving a speach from a boat and he would flee if you were detected. Frustrating but fair.

Worst is a contract mission where you have to kill three people in random locations in a certain amount of time without them detecting you (guards could witness it but not the soon to be departed). I gave up after failing asplit second before killing the third target. Another second he would have been dead and it would have been success. Pure artbitrary restrictions with no thought toward the logic.
