Hello everyone! I've just joined this forum so I thought I would introduce myself by starting a discussion about something that has been puzzling me recently.
I recently finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and was a bit confused about what I saw compared to what I'd heard about the game before hand.
SPOILERS BEGIN
Before getting the game I overheard my friends talking about it and I heard them saying that someone betrays you in the game. After hearing that I stopped listening so the story wasn't ruined for me even more, but I already had by suspicions about who this betrayer was from playing previous games in the series. And sure enough playing through the game it seemed evident to me that Lucy was in fact a Templar, because she spends a huge amount of the game M.I.A. That, and the fact that she worked undercover in Abstergo in the first game, and was also accused of having been corrupted towards their side of thinking at the start of the second game.
After Lucy re-appeared near the end of the game I waited for some kind of revelation in the game revealing her as a traitor, but it never came. The only thing that seemed to indicate that she was came right at the last scene of the game, when Desmond picks up the Apple of Eden, and then seems to have his body taken over by Minerva (that's the weird glowy woman's name, right?), presumably, and then continues to stick his knife in Lucy before falling to the ground. Now I can't recall exactly why Minerva said that Lucy had to die, but it could have been because she was working for the enemy, but that is only one possible reason. There could be many other reasons why this happened which have not yet been explained.
SPOILERS END
So why did this happen? Did I totally miss something in the game that reveals the truth?
