Hello everyone! I've just joined this forum so I thought I would introduce myself by starting a discussion about something that has been puzzling me recently.

I recently finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and was a bit confused about what I saw compared to what I'd heard about the game before hand.

SPOILERS BEGIN

Before getting the game I overheard my friends talking about it and I heard them saying that someone betrays you in the game. After hearing that I stopped listening so the story wasn't ruined for me even more, but I already had by suspicions about who this betrayer was from playing previous games in the series. And sure enough playing through the game it seemed evident to me that Lucy was in fact a Templar, because she spends a huge amount of the game M.I.A. That, and the fact that she worked undercover in Abstergo in the first game, and was also accused of having been corrupted towards their side of thinking at the start of the second game.

After Lucy re-appeared near the end of the game I waited for some kind of revelation in the game revealing her as a traitor, but it never came. The only thing that seemed to indicate that she was came right at the last scene of the game, when Desmond picks up the Apple of Eden, and then seems to have his body taken over by Minerva (that's the weird glowy woman's name, right?), presumably, and then continues to stick his knife in Lucy before falling to the ground. Now I can't recall exactly why Minerva said that Lucy had to die, but it could have been because she was working for the enemy, but that is only one possible reason. There could be many other reasons why this happened which have not yet been explained.

SPOILERS END

So why did this happen? Did I totally miss something in the game that reveals the truth?

Huh. I somehow never got the impression that Lucy was a Templar. But it does make sense...A lot of sense, really.

Then again, I did get stuck on that last platforming puzzle for 15 minutes, due to Desmond jumping BACK instead of SIDEWAYS and falling down. So, at the ending, I wasn't thinking clearly.

Unlock all the glyph puzzles. And if you can't do it, use a walkthrough, because those things are so fucking illogical its unreal. Might give you a better understanding.

Also, your friends might have been referring to Machiavelli's supposed betrayal, maybe not.

She might be a templar. However, it was made pretty clear that Desmond and Lucy had a thing and from what Minerva said Desmond is supposed to mate with "Eve" and a romance between Lucy and Desmond would go in the way of that. Then again she might just be a templar. I guess we're going to have to wait until the next game to figure it all out.

Oh yeah that's something they really need to fix in the game. So many times Ezio, or whoever I happen to be playing as, decides that my control input means that I want them to jump in to the abyss even though there is absolutely nothing in that direction I could possibly be aiming for.

Someone betrays Ezio way back, the guy calling "I MUST HELP THEM" in the attack of Monterrigoni. Also, the fact that you see red footsteps the first time you see Lucy outside, leading towards the sewer grate in front of the villa might indicate her bringing in people, or that her footsteps were hostile intent.

Also; that totally wasn't Minerva. You encounter Minerva in the vault of Rome. The one in the vault of the Colloseum was Juno, as the temple you went through was dedicated to her. They look different, speak different and obviously have different intents.

I thought of it as humans flaw thing. Desmond had a very strong emotional attachment to Lucy (affection) which could stop him or distract him from what he had to do. As far as a writing stand point goes Lucy served her purpose she helped the main character and gave him the tools and strength needed to go on so the was not much of a main role in Desmond's story for her anymore. The only thing that was left was for her to "leave" the story, in this case it was death.

Oh okay I see, I didn't realise they were different people. I can't remember the name Juno coming up and the last time I played AC2 was when it first came out. Plus a lot of stuff about the series' story confuses me. I can never tell what is important or not, and some of the stuff is so cryptic. Those footsteps are a prime example. What the hell are those? They never get explained, and I have a feeling they probably won't be explained it in the next game, if at all.

And maybe they were talking about Machiavelli's suspected betrayal, but when I almost finished the game someone did reveal straight out to me that Lucy was the traitor, but by then I was pretty sure of it already. Then again they did think that Minerva and Juno came from the future, which they blatantly don't
