I don't really see what the controversy is about. In the first Assassin's Creed you killed lots of English soldiers and nobody batted an eye.
We weren't the bad guys, though. There's nothing necessarily evil about conquest. I would put the pro-American stance mainly down to where the adverts are being shown. They are mostly trailers for the American, so naturally, marketing companies don't want to show a lot of Americans being killed. Plus, we've only seen about 15mins of gameplay and trailers, and if the game is as big as Ubisoft says it is, that's likely to be 3% of the final content, possibly less. So don't panic, my fellow countrymen, there's probably a lot more colonist assassinating than we are currently been shown, let's just be glad that the daily mail hasn't gotten its hands on any of the footage.
