I searched the forums and this info does not seem to be here yet... so here you go fellow Assassin's Creed fans, a link:

Apparantly the next istalment of the Assassin's Creed franchise will have some online multiplayer.
I don't play online but I would love to try online AC. However, I hope it would not sour the single-player experience, which I find is one of the best in this current generation.

Although Assassin's Creed III is not specifically mentioned in the above article, instead, a direct quote from Ubisoft Press Release:
"...a new episode of Assassin's Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode."
Perhaps it is some downloadable content for Assassins Creed II or just The PC version of the game (which I believe has not been released yet, correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyway, What do you think of this announcment?
Would you prefer it to be part of ACII or a whole new game set somewhere else, and if so where would you like it to be set?(Yes, I know that question has been asked a million times here, but would online multiplayer suit being set somewhere particular?)

EDIT: Many people are saying it might be a spin off... would you buy it if it was?

They might be taking the Final Fantasy 13 approach and having multiple games, or possibly a spinoff from the main story.

I'm hesitant, but still open to the possibility. I'm just worried that it'll be like the Metroid Prime 2 multiplayer...a stripped-down version of single-player, and clearly tacked-on.

I think it would be awesome to have multiplayer coop free-roaming, crackdown style, and they could include random assassinations around the place, and multiple ways in, and a distract function, and one could draw away the guards while the other attacks...

That would be awesome, I hope it's downloadable for AC2, because it shouldn't be a main game mechanic.

Doodes, it'll be co-op! Work together with a friend to take out a target, one is distraction, the other is the killer. One can "steal" something to draw attention while the other stabs in the neck.

Would be uber awesome.

I doubt a true multiplayer Assassin's Creed would work. The number of kill steals would be terrible.

When I finished AC2, I thought "All this is really needs is multiplayer, because there is no replay value whatsoever". While I still think that is true, it would be incredibly hard to do well and if this is some time trials sh*t then I'm gonna be pissed off.

Probably a DLC.

And I can see how it would work.

Races seem an obvious gametype, also the CTF match you play during carnivale in Venice was pretty lame, but with people it would be pretty fun.

Yea, that's pretty much what I was thinking. With a few balance tweaks, that CTF could be pretty fun playing against a friend.

No one would attack. They would just stand there and wait for their foe to attack so that they could counter! Also the gun would be a noob cannon!

Excuse me....

"WHY WONT THEY LEARN!"

Really multi-player IS NOT a replacement for a single player thats 10 hours long.

This could work

Maybe they had a archer vs. assassins mode where the assassins play in the normal view but the archers are all in first person mode and there arrows are a 1 hit kill.

Then a protection mode where the guards protect a VIP as he walks around and the assassins haft to kill him, the assassins can't respawn but the guards can.

You can tell I've thought about this before.

Personally I feel this to be an unnecessary addition to the game franchise, a single player game franchise if I may add, although, it is too soon to pass judgement upon this decision yet. So I shall simply wait and buy Assassins Creed 3, (if I want to that is.) and see for myself the results of this multiplayer idea.
