I'm curious to see how they'd do it, some of the modes people suggested sound good, they definatly can't have straight-up team deathmatches that just wouldn't work.

Not EVERYTHING needs bloody multiplayer.

Multiplayer is where I meet all the racists, homophobes, or people who scream because they are crap at the game and have problems admitting it, and most of these are frickin' children, and some of them should even be in school at the time.

Yet despite all this, games that are primarily singleplayer have multiplayer tacked on, with shitty multiplayer achievements which make everyone deviate from the game to get them, because everyone thinks socialising is "the thing", and that "a community spirit" is being built. What the hell kind of community do the producers envisage? Biodome meets Alien Vs. Predator?

Ah well, as long as oodles of money is made from the dribbling masses for it eh?

This is a bad idea. It'll be like making The Longest Journey a multiplayer experience (I know the games are very different, but I'd still see multiplayer fucking them both up).

Though cooperative, as mentioned below is the only aspect that has a chance of being enjoyable (I don't mean with some goon who randomly joined my game though - Mercenaries 2 wasn't fun that way).

I'd like to point this out in big, red letters to stop the whining:

[HEADING=1]A multi-player component does not equal a competitive multi-player component. Even a competitive one does not mean it will contain combat.[/HEADING]

As said before, AC3 could have some form of co-op, which could be brilliant, or free-running races which could also be awfully fun.

No-one says that we'll end up with some sort of medieval Deathmatch or something, though even Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, another game very unlikely to have a good multi-player component, proved us that even that could work.

Exactly what i was thinking. spies vs. mercs = assasins vs. templars

assasin can only take a few hit must rely on stealth.

templars heavy armoured tanks who are slow and clumsy but can easily kill and assasin in open combat.

it could work but it would take lots of testing to make it fun and balenced.

Assassins Vs. Templars I'd guess...
How the hell can you have a group of templars willing to fight a group of assassins?

Assassins work alone, for one, and they have to be stealthy which would probably make for crappy MP. Possibly a kind of wave defence game mode.

I don't really see how they are going to do this. Is it gonna be like GTA4 with hidden blades?

Why exactly are they doing this?
Probably because they aren't happy with the profits AC1 & 2 brought them.
I wouldn't mind since I don't play MP anyway , but if this is gonna cause the campaign to be 5-6 hours long like most new games , I'm gonna RAEG!!

Here's hoping that it'll be something like you'll be given a random target to assassinate in a fairly large map. You get bonuses for speed, stealth and (if applicable) creativity. You'll also get a bonus for assassinating the other players but that would obviously come at the cost of not assassinating the target. That to me seems half decent at least.

'How can you make a stealth action game an online multiplayer?'

Clearly they are unaware of MGS Online

Exactly.

Just because it will have multiplayer (whatever exactly it is, be it a full game or an AC2 expansion), does not mean A.) the single player game is ruined or B.) the game will be CoD with everyone in Altair/Ezio outfits.

As the quote says, Splinter Cell has shown that you can have an extremely good single player stealth based game that has extremely capable and fun VS modes and co-op modes added on. And who was the SC series made by again? Oh yeah, Ubisoft. You may have heard of them as they're, you know, the same guys who make the AC games.

Remember when games didn't have MP? Remember when A game got by solely on how good the single player campaign was? What the hell happened to those games? Did we all just decide that Games need multi player to be good? I mean for god sake Creed 2 was an awesome game. you DO NOT NEED MULTI PLAYER!

other than Co-op, i really hope this doesnt happen, I feel PvP wouldn't work with this game.
it would feel tacked on as a game playing element, n would be a waste of disc space.
the series for me has gone from average hack n slash of AC1 to a very enjoyable immersive experience of AC2

I have a very simple response to this idea... HELL NO!
This game does not require an MP mode, it is perfectly capable of standing on it's own as a SP game and still selling a huge amount of copies.

I'd love to play AC in multiplayer, especially coop. I have a thing for cooperative modes in games and when a dear franchise such as this one has it.

If this turns out to be true though, I'd like duels as well. You'd need a very stable connection with little lag to pull off counters and such, but it'd be awesome: two swordsmen circle strafing, attacking and parrying each other's moves, each of them waiting for the other to make a mistake and *sqrrishh*. Sword through the lung.

Nonetheless, the free roaming/free climbing multiplayer thing reminds of Uncharted 2. I hope this doesn't mean they'll add guns. Though if it's going to be set in the future, I don't know whether they have any other choice... still hoping against it, they'll think of something.

EDIT: I just read more replies from this thread. I don't mind when an excellent single-player game adds multiplayer, even if it's just "tacked on". As long as the single-player experience doesn't suffer for it, why complain about extra features? It's not like anyone would be forcing you to play it. It's like the fast-travel system in Oblivion. Why are so many people complaining? Don't like it, don't use it!

I dont think the Assassins could pull off stealth against human enemies, if a Templar player sees an assassin then straight away he would run and kill him, one of the main points of the AC series is that your not hiding, rather blending in. If an NPC gaurd see's you, he won't do anything unless your doing something illegal or crazy. I hope I explained my point properly there, its a tad confusing...

Ubisoft Montreal has spent months trying to figure out how the hell they are going to incorporate the free running mechanic in a modern setting with skyscrapers, finally gave up, and decided to turn AC3 into an FPS. So of course there needs to be online right?

On a serious note though co-op could be really interesting, and the developer has made some pretty cool multiplayer (Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell co-op) and some pretty terrible(Despite an awesome map editor, Far Cry 2 had terrible online imo). I'll stay cautiously optimistic about this one.

When I finished AC2, I thought "All this is really needs is multiplayer, because there is no replay value whatsoever". While I still think that is true, it would be incredibly hard to do well and if this is some time trials sh*t then I'm gonna be pissed off.
That was my thought too. I still have to find all of the feathers so I can get a platinum, but other than that, I don't really know what I'm gonna do with it.

I guess I'll play it again after a while.

OT: If done right (which I am highly skeptical about), it could be awesome.
