Like all the rest of you I saw the Assassins Creed III release trailer and the promo pictures. I don't doubt the game will be awesome and have an interesting take on arguably some of the most famous events in history.

But if you compare its trailer with the other Assassins Creed games it seems a bit lack luster. If you look at all the trailers, they all subtly showcase game play features.

One, showed the social stealth, the free running and the assassinations.
Two, showed the gun, the disarming capabilities and the ability to hire help.
Brotherhood introduced having apprentices.
Revelations show cased Altair coming back.
Three does this as well, it showed the dual wielding the... tomahawk (correct me if that isn't the name of the type of axe he uses) and a dagger, the free running through the trees and fighting men with muskets.

So it's fine on that aspect but it falls down in two key aspects.
First the music, all the others either had intense music to emphasise the seriousness of the situation or had intially cheerful music to disguise what was going to happen later. (Musical social stealth)

The second is the most important, conflict. All the others the assassin is trying to accomplish something in the trailer, typically an assassination. This allows the trailer to have an antagonist as well as the assassins. Even if the character in the trailer is later dropped, changed, or a major antagonist, in the trailer there is a clear objective in view. Revelations didn't quite have the objective part, its more Ezio gets ambushed, but still has the antagonist and added to the tension by Ezio getting captured and about to be hung.

In three you see the assassin killing a bunch of unnamed red coats and then moves to a battle taking place elsewhere. So it begs the question how is what the assassin was doing significant?
All they would have needed to do was have him try and get the enemy general or something and the signifcance would be there. Instead he kills half a dozen men that he could have probably avoided, why bother killing them.

Your thoughts?
P.S. Like I said, I don't doubt the game will be good and I enjoy seeing what they do with the time period. I just thought the trailer which is normally what people ogle over for half a year could have been better.

I think you're overlooking the biggest game feature shown in the trailer, the free running out in the wild. This adds a huge, new dimension to the game and is a significant addition in its own right. Who knows if we'll be able to climb all the trees but the implications of setting up ambushes or performing espionage from the trees has me quite excited.

Who the assassin kills in the trailer is irrelevant to me. It's safe to assume that being set in the American Revolution, there will be many high profile assassinations even if one of them wasn't featured in the trailer.

There will be many more trailers to come for this game, I wouldn't read too much in to the announcement one.

The one part of the trailer that really bothered me was at the end, when they did the close-up on the General dude, and then panned over the American soldiers.
It looked incredibly cheesy and fake, like an opening cutscene from a 2002 game or something.

I was more dissapointed with the time frame than the trailer, why American revolution? WHY!?!?

I enjoyed the trailer. Wilderness free-running, and interesting time period and setting, it did exactly what a teaser is supposed to do.

I'm really excited, I absolutely adored Red Dead and I'm excited to enter that kind of world again. Besides, climbing up a tree and killing a loyalist by splitting open his head with a tomahawk will be bad-ass. I can't wait into Connor's er, boots!

Mandatory pic of awesomeness

Captcha asked, and I answered.

"Describe this [American Airlines] with any word(s)"

Flyin' bitches!

You're preaching to the choir here. How effective would an assassin (and a native at that too) be if he couldn't climb a tree to stage his next kill?

Pray tell, what exactly do you dislike about the setting? It hasn't really been explored too much in past games, it's about the same leap in time from AC2 as AC2 was from AC1 and the introduction of the wilderness as a new, vast location is a fresh take on the franchise.

Well, I'd disagree that they didn't show the antagonist. Did you listen to George Washington's speech? It was very supportive of the war, very much a propoganda statement, where you will either be a slave or a free man. It was a very Templar statement. Maybe George Washington is the antagonist in this game? While we did see the new assasin cutting in to the british, that doesn't mean he'll support the Americans either. His birth parents make him scorned by both sides, so I doubt he'll be respected support either.

I'll give you that the music was lacking, brother hood and revelations had amazing music in their trailers. But there is no denying how awesome the over kill was by stabbing a guy with a beonet in the face and then shooting the gun attached to said beonet.

While the trailer is a bit "lackluster", I think it gets the proper point across. As previously mentioned, the game elements such as the dual-weapons and tree-climbing are showcased pretty well. These are two new add-ons that seem like they are going to be pretty important to the game. As for the Assassin's significance, I believe that Connor's actions were purposely left ambiguous. We still don't know whose side he is on, and having him kill a specific influential individual would make him seem like he plays for a certain team. Regardless, I think the game looks awesome. I'm sure I'll waste a good amount of time playing it!

Because I am British and like being British and don't want to have to slaughter hundreds of fine British soldiers because AMERICA FREEDOM!!!

Honestly it's just me being petty about it, I will probably enjoy the game. I hear that Brotherhood and revelations were made by a different team and the one that did AC2 are the ones who made this. If that's the case then I will be looking forward to this game.

If he's not a cyberpunk automaton armed with a minigun and carrying two American flags on his back, I will be sorely disapointed.

When the hell did showcasing the return of a character begin counting as a game play feature?
