The shootout with the politician looked somewhat gameplay like. Which means that the developer playing that is either horrible at his own game or that the controls are so clunky not even the developers can use them.
It looked gameplay-like, even had a crosshair on the screen, but the next seemingly-scripted scene started perfectly from where the player happened to be standing when combat ended. It would also be badly scripted if the game let you knock enemies over the rails when they were carrying important gameplay items like new plasmids - the chances of that enemy falling to that exact point were slim.

There are several other examples of what would be bad level design outside of a cutscene, particularly the escape just outside the bar, and several other moments in combat where it wouldn't be immediately apparent to the player what he had to do. Particularly in the scene where Elizabeth made the molten kitchenware ball, the fact that the player would have taken cover to enable that "cutscene" would have been hard for the developers to predict, and thus bad design. There is a substantial jump in technology needed to make this all possible.

Perhaps I'm stating the obvious - I want so badly to believe that this IS real gameplay - but it seems more like someone said "make me a concept video of what the gameplay will ideally be like".

I got the Game Informer covering this and I will say I have high hopes, I'm not expecting the 2nd coming, just a REALLY good game.

Woah! WTF is that eagle thing? I really hope these are real gameplay possibilities and not too much scripted, pre-rendered malarkey.

I is very excite.
That thing at the end is simply dubbed as "Him". He's is what keeps Elizabeth locked in the tower so now he is just trying to get her back.

OT: I was a little skeptical at first thinking it wasn't going to be that great, but it seems the more I read into the more I wants. :)

Columbia is one of the most ridiculous looking things I've seen in a long time. And not the "Axl Rose's ego" kind of ridiculous that makes you love it even more, the stupid kind. It's just such a shallow attempt at recreating the wonder of seeing Rapture the first time.
"They've seen the underwater city now, what will amaze them this time? The only good thing about Rapture was it's odd placement, therefore we just need an even more crazy location and the game will be even better!"
"For us, BioShock has never been about a city," Levine says. Taken straight from an interview with the creative director. He's right, it wasn't the fact that it was a city at the bottom of the ocean that made it interesting. It was the art direction, the Objectivist viewpoints, and the fact that something sinister was going on behind the scenes that made Rapture memorable. If those three major points didn't apply to Rapture, they might as well have named the city "Atlantis." And your Axl Rose ego comment is just plain stupid, his ego is what turned me off the band completely and makes me hate the band even more.

Did I just hear Garrett... ?

... did I really just hear Garrett? I mean, uh, Stephen Russel?

*grins stupidly* If that is true, I am one happy Taffer. One extremely, almost painfully, happy Taffer.

This has to be a diffrent game. It is nothing like bioshock storywise, but why would people randomly attack you?

Obvious pre-rendered video is obvious. It won't look nearly as good as it did there. Anyone who thinks any of this is actual gameplay footage is kidding themselves.

Wow... That evoked pretty much the same reaction and intrigue that I felt when I saw those first Bioshock trailers and gameplay. Was probably the point, and it worked brilliantly. Definitely looking forward to this one as I skipped over Bioshock 2.

Are there any good reasons to believe this is really GAMEPLAY footage?
The shootout with the politician looked somewhat gameplay like. Which means that the developer playing that is either horrible at his own game or that the controls are so clunky not even the developers can use them.

I mean the part where he looks at a stationary man through the scope, misses, sees the target run away, recocks(with an incredibly obnoxious animation), scopes again and shoots the (still vacant) spot a few feet away from the original target) again.

Neither options seems like a good sign.

Also, how the hell did they get a WWII russian scope in 1912?
Did you not see the horde of crows that made it incredibly impossible to see?

Leave it to me to be the pessimist...

But it looked REALLY cutscene-y to me. Not that the entire thing was, but that a lot of it was. The parts when you talk to Elizabeth, the parts on the railing and stuff like that.

So I'm not particularly excited, but that's because I didn't I enjoy Bioshock all that much...

But that's just my pessimism showing.

Looks brilliant, as I said before. Definatly keeping my eye on it, looks like a big change from BioShock. Gameplay looks extremely fun too.

Looks good to me.

My only complaints are that I could do without the even more unsubtle political overtones, and a bit more in the way of horror elements. I didn't see anything as creepy as the little sisters either.

... and yes, I do know that there were political overtones to Bioshock, but I think this one is being intended more as a commentary on current issues.

My biggest thought though (being mostly concerned about gameplay) is how the "powers" are being fueled. I didn't see any kind of an Eve/Mana bar at all. Are we going to be getting unlimited usage of special powers for this one I wonder? While not used constantly, the "Plasmids" (or whatever they are called now) seemed to be used often enough without an obvious recharge hypo or something that it makes me wonder, only a very advanced character in Bioshock would be likely to do that many things before needing a "pick me up" to so speak.

I was... disappointed, and I don't really know why. Didn't live up to the hype maybe? I dunno. It definitely looked interesting, just not... "astonishingly divine." Oh well.

I think you linked to the wrong trailer, Tom. Isn't this supposed to be for a new game?
Good sir, I must demand that you explain yourself.

Looks absolutely amazing. The lightning storm had me actually shouting victoriously at the screen.
