At Least One Anime You Love and One You Hate

Dead Leaves: I adore this movie. An excellent art style, with lots of sharp angles and an amazing shading style brings it it's own attitude and scene. Lots of violence and humor takes this to a different classification compared to what most people think of anime, but with a deep plot buried underneath.

Blood: The Last Vampire. I do not understand why so many people love this movie and hate Dead Leaves. Most of the problems in Dead Leaves are FAR more apparent in Blood, such as a stupid plot barely expanded upon. Except, unlike Dead Leaves, they didn't take the liability of making it violent, fun, and with a new art style, they made a typical boring slow anime where almost nothing happens for the majority of it.

School Rumble: Its funny, and I like this type of anime since it is pure entertainment and thus no such thing as filler.

Naruto: Must I say why?

Neon Genesis Evangelion: It's my all time favorite anime series for several reasons. I even love the Rebuild movies they're showing; they've failed to dissapoint so far.

As for hate, I don't think I've really hated any anime so far. I'll just settle with Bleach, because the filler is simply horrid and they pick the absolute worst times to go into filler seasons.

Love: Angel Beats!, it's my favorite anime and the soundtrack's awesome. :)
Besides that Elfen Lied, which is the runner up, and Full Metal Alchemist.

Hate: Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, watched the first couple of episodes with a female friend.
I soon got incredibly annoyed at the overly perfect love interest, around which the intire series pretty much revolves.

Love: .hack//SIGN. I could be Otaku for that series. I have no idea why, but its been the first in a long line of my enjoying really boring anime, like Galaxy Express 999 and Kokoro Library.

Hate: Hrm... I generally dislike a lot of things, but I saw this really weird anime once on Hulu where within the first five minutes, a throwaway character kills a few cops, shoots the head off a puppy and rapes a pre-adolescent girl solely so that he could be killed by the main character, so that the audience feels more empathy towards her when she ruthlessly kills even more people. I'll go with this one; I feel like it has only been a detriment to my being.

Love: I do have a soft spot for Trigun, Cowboy Bepop, Code Geass and Eureka Seven. I find Neon Genesis Evangelion interesting. However, I also find it very confusing. I should probably re-watch it.

Meh: I would probably put Naruto, bleach and other popular stuff here. The fillers are not well done. With such an interesting cast, it's a shame that the main characters are not as much interesting as them.

Hate: When they Cry is probably my most hated. I'm sorry, but cute characters killing themselves in the most brutal way is not that interesting. I'm also not interested in the story at all.

Hack//Roots is also boring. Nothing happens until the end. Maybe it's the fact that I never really got into the whole "hack" thing.

Loved Gantz. Was incredibly awesome, manga still is as far as I know.

Hated Samurai Champloo. Very little action, boring stories, annoying characters.

Love: Rozen Maiden. Besides other good things it has probably the best music in anime I ever heard.

Hate: Dragonball. I gues theres nothing to explain.

An anime I love is,
Spice and Wolf: It's a show about medieval economics and how the church influenced businesses at the time. The series thus involves a lot of talking heads, and there isn't a whole lot of action, but it is still an amazing series.

An anime I despise is,
Umineko no Naku Koro ni: It started off as a dysfunctional family drama (with gruesome murder and black magic involved) but ultimately turns into a train wreck.

If movies count then.

Love: Spirited Away. It's my favourite movie.

Hate: Every anime that isn't done by Hayao Miyazaki.

Love:
- Cowboy Bebop. Everybody loves cowboy Bebop. If you hate Cowboy Bebop, you are wrong.
- Great Teacher Onizuka. I went into this thinking it'd be another romantic anime where some loser is surrounded by hot girls he fails to get off with a la Love Hina and every other harem anime out there. I was dead wrong within the first few minutes and it remains a favourite to this day.
- Serial Experiments Lain. It's so... mellow and nice to watch, with some interesting ideas driving it... some of which then were lifted and recycled in the thriller movie Pulse, and the
terrible American remake of Pulse.
- FLCL: I think this is the best way ever anyone has tried to explain puberty.

In-between:
- Ah! My Goddess: First anime DVDs I ever bought were the A!MG OAV series, and one of the better romance anime to date. The extended newer series from a few years ago was good but lacked the same charm of the originals.
- Tenchi Muyo: I *think* I've seen all the different incarnations of Tenchi, but it's hard to say. They're enjoyable to watch and not overtly fanservicey.
- Trigun: There's always been a big debate about whether Trigun is better than Cowboy Bebop or if Spike is better than Vash. Eh... Trigun was pretty cool but it didn't have any real longevity for me.
- Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki movies: Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Porco Rosso... all decent films, certainly anime classics, but not excellent enough to top my list of favourites.

Hate:
- Cromartie High School. I don't know why my friends had this pegged as the next big thing 7 years ago, but I think this is the thing that made me stop watching anime. It was lame, disjointed, filled with cultural in-jokes that aren't funny even when you do understand them, and had no reason to exist at all.
- Excel Saga: I had high hopes here... and they just didn't pan out.

Love: Witch Hunter Robin.
Seriously.(Though Cowboy Bebop is also a favourite. I mean, wow. It left me speechless. Being an absolute ponce, I usually have something to say.)

Hate: Well, I'm not too hot on anime, but I dislike Bleach quite a bit.

good anime: trigun, cowboy bebop, and the original FMA when they decided to ignore the manga and run with their own story.

bad anime: FLCL that was the most Incomprehensible load of crap i have ever seen, and if the story doesnt make sense, it tends to make crap anime

Loved: CLANNAD. One of the best high school romances ever animated for one very simple reason- it was willing to go BEYOND high school to explore life beyond the standard rom-com cliches. That and it's unbelievably heartwarming and beautiful.

Hated: KissXSis. This series is the ultimate condensation of everything that is wrong with the anime industry today. A festering pile of garbage with absolutely NO redeeming features that is basically softcore pseudo-incest porn. Hell, I've seen actual porn that's better.

Anime I loved: Outlaw Star. It's not the best ever by a long shot, certainly, actually incredibly obnoxious, but I enjoyed the atmosphere of it a lot as it offered an interesting and unique mixture of mysticism and high-tech sci-fi in a gritty but simultaneously humorous and colorful package. I'm not fond of one or two of the characters (Aisha and her loud, grating, SCREAMING CAT VOICE especially), but somehow I just can't help but enjoy the smarmy attitude of it. And then there's Fred. If you hate Fred, there's something wrong with you. Plus, hey, everybody else is going to say Cowboy Bebop (the real answer to this question), so why should I repeat it?

Anime I hated: Elfin Lied. Stiff characters, pretentious storytelling, ridiculous tone shifts, degrading and contradictory fetishism, and overly gratuitous gore, all wrapped in typical dime-a-dozen anime-style religious allegory. Just boorish.

Anime that drove me to a murderous rampage: Ikki Tousen. WORST. SHOW. EVER.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is/was so fucking good.

As for hate, I don't know.
