Michael Jackson was badshit crazy. Being a pedophile is certainly not out of the question for him, especially since he let himself be put in that situation more than once.Queen Michael said:Do you ever hear someone express views that you think that at some level they should understand don't make any sense? Like when my grandmother didn't agree with me that Michael Jackson had been framed for pederasty crimes by people who wanted to get a big bunch of dollars from him, because to wuote her, "Do you really think people would do that kind of thing for money?" Leaving aside the issue of whether Michael was guilty or not, at some level she must have known that people will lie for money.
So... what have you heard people say or believe or think that at some level they must have known was untrue?
Actually you'd be surprised. A lot of it stems from peoples up bringing. If their raised in a racist, homophobic, or otherwise discriminatory environment (in other words their parents held such beliefs) their more likely to hold such beliefs themselves. And like anyone with an opinion, their not likely to change that view without liberal application of a crowbar and a sledgehammer.Doclector said:Racists, homophobes, and other discriminators. How, in this day and age, does someone hold such views? There is no argument here, no debate. Skin colour means jack shit, and who someone wants to fuck is their business. Simple as.
I honestly don't think this was actually an issue untill some people made an issue of how other people apparently had an issue with it.shrekfan246 said:The entire debate about how gaming should remain a closed off "nerd" thing, to only appeal to the very nichest of niches. And how we apparently need to crucify people who are 'pretending' to like the same hobby we like, because they're not 'real' gamers as if that's actually a thing that can be quantified.
Oh, it was. It doesn't crop up all that often because of the other 'hot topics of the month' we get around here in the monthly cycle, but every now and then you'll catch a post or two who are vilifying the fact that gaming isn't a tiny little niche, hidden in the corner anymore. It may or may not be accompanied by 'retro gamer elitism', as well.Casual Shinji said:I honestly don't think this was actually an issue untill some people made an issue of how other people apparently had an issue with it.shrekfan246 said:The entire debate about how gaming should remain a closed off "nerd" thing, to only appeal to the very nichest of niches. It doesn't help when the piracy ads all state that "Piracy = Stealing", at least the ones in the UK always have done. The organisation in charge of said thing is called F.A.C.T or Federation Against Copyright Theft.FelixG said:"Piracy is theft." is always worth a good chuckle. Because at some level I expect the person to be smart enough to differentiate between personal copyright infringement (Civil), professional copyright infringement (Crime), and theft (Crime).
That's plain wrong - you've obviously not tried some of my grandmother's cooking - "will eventually be destroyed" my ass, they'll most probably outlast all the things you mentioned.CrazyCapnMorgan said:Everything human-made.
Swear on it all you like, it will ultimately fail at one point or another. Money, technology, systems of governments, religions - they're nice, and convenient in some applications - will eventually be destroyed.
Well, look at it this way - a homosexual man can still marry a woman, no? And a homosexual woman can marry a man. Also, if gay marriage is allowed, for some unknown reason heterosexual people will be unable to marry other people of the same gender. Therefore, it would give homosexuals even more privileges than heterosexuals. Or something along those lines. If it actually makes sense, come back and explain it to me, so we both get how it works.TopazFusion said:The argument against gay marriage, and claims that it isn't discrimination because "a gay man can already marry every person a straight man is allowed to marry".
Yeah, that doesn't even begin to make sense in my head...
Well, actually, that name would imply that the organisation tries to combat the stealing of copyright itself. As in, not the copyrighted material. I wander - does it happen often? Some bad guy goes and...I dunno, pockets the copyright somehow?Legion said:The organisation in charge of said thing is called F.A.C.T or Federation Against Copyright Theft.
Well, there is something to say for that. Gaming has changed to a point that certain genres aren't profitable anymore and have been left by the wayside. Games today are still good, but the variety that was present in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era and earlier has kind of disappeared. The variety in games today exist mostly in the smaller downloadable games, not the big studio productions.shrekfan246 said:I've seen people on this very website, before this past week's Jimquisition, who have said that gaming has been going downhill ever since it "went mainstream". I guess I have to admit that he might have been guilty, but his being batshit crazy isn't in itself a good reason to believe he was. IMO, that's just what made lots of people assume that he was guity. That he's crazy doesn't mean he actually did commit this particular crime.disgruntledgamer said:Michael Jackson was badshit crazy. Those genres are still (mostly) being made, though. Maybe not with the same frequency as before, but it's always been like that. SNES/Genesis was all about 2D side-scrolling brawlers and platformers while the PC had RTS', Space Sims, and FPS', Nintendo 64 was all about 3D Platformers while the Playstation had a bunch of JRPGs, and both were the beginnings of FPS' really hitting it off on consoles, then the PS2 came about and had a huge number of JRPGs, racing games, FPS', action-adventure games, hack&slash games, while the Xbox popularized the console-FPS and the Gamecube floundered about because of lacking third-party support (Note: The Gamecube is my favorite Nintendo console), and it's not really all that different now.Casual Shinji said:Well, there is something to say for that. This is more due to the overbloated budgets than the mainstream appeal though. Though the two probably go hand in hand; "We have a huge budget so whatever game we make better appeal to as wide an audience as possible for us to make all that money back."
In my experience, a lot of people who believe that haven't read their holy book. They have heard the stories, and since they assume their holy book tells the truth, they take what they know of the world, look for some vague expressions in the book and go 'this must be what they are talking about'.Hagi said:But there's a very small number of things of which I simply don't understand how anyone could possibly rationally believe them, such as the Bible being absolute literal truth. I don't understand how someone could rationally look at the world and the Bible, think logically about it and come to the conclusion that this book is the exact literal truth. I consider it an irrational belief.
