EDIT:

If you are an Atheist and have read any great philosophical essays, books or documents written about by or about atheist and existentialist ideas or concepts, please share them here with your fellow critical thinkers, so that we may all broaden our understanding.

Calm a llama down
Calm a llama deep down
In the ocean blue
Like a barnacle
Sitting in the tight place
Laughing at the monkey arm
Pulling like a china boy

Kara-way
Kara-way
Kara-way noise

I thought the thing atheists hated most was "organized religion"
which makes me wonder why they team up and organize meetings or rallies, or stuff like this.
and the topic: "atheist Bible" just screams oxymoron.

My brother's a pretty hardcore Atheist. When I asked him what was the difference between Atheist and Agnostic he pretty much said that Atheists believed in no possibility of a greater power(God/gods.) I didn't really think there would be a "moral tome" for Atheists, just a couple guidelines...

Doesn't binding yourself to any philosophies other then "God does not exist" defeat the purpose of being an atheist.

Yeah, it's sort of like anarchists getting together. The only thing that binds us really is our disbelief in fairytales.

We shouldn't have one, laying down, as you say it... our "moral tome" implies that we have concrete morals and beliefs, which isn't true. One of the things I consider SO VERY IMPORTANT about being an atheist is always questioning, always wondering and always molding my values to fit the situation and myself.

For goodness sakes, a lot of The Christian Bible DOES in fact teach some good lessons about how to live life. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," is pretty much a good be all and end all of morality, and the statement "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," is another good one.

Just discount the moralizing bits based on archaic societal structures and hokey superstition.

Lol, nice, reading that reminded me of the anarchist meetings I kept hearing about.

As an atheist, I think you could sum up my opinions on faith in a few sentences. As for morals, those will vary person-to-person.

Every Holy book, or 'bible", bills itself as one of these:
1.) A compendium of holy/spiritual/mystical knowledge.
This is the 'Spellbook' type of Bible
2.) A record of human-god conversations
This is the 'Chat-script' type of Bible
3.) A history of time and space that somehow, though this is rarely explained, includes knowledge of the gods, creation, the future, and everything
This is the '42' type of Bible

But there is one "bible" I can think of that fills all of these rules. One that is every bit as pretentious, but infinitely more useful.

The scientific work of the human race. If ever anything was written in the name or spirit of science, take it as a holy scripture. Every attempt to map the stars, to jot down the function of enzymes, the folding of proteins, the motion of co-gravitating bodies, every work of science is building towards The Knowledge of the Universe.

I'm make a guess that wikipedia is probably the densest, best organized, collection of human knowledge. But in a sense, any scientific text is a bible. The only difference is that it is true.

Your brother is wrong though, just to let you know. Atheism answers the belief question, agnosticism answers the what we know question.

Agnosticism doesn't answer "Do you believe in a God?".

Bible comes from the Latin root "Biblia", book. Therefore, the "Bible" is literally, "The Book".

So technically, there COULD be an Atheist Bible.

Anyway.

I think the only shared beliefs of Atheists could be summed up with this.

I believe your asking atheists to set forth a common moral code. Your never going to find that because religion generally gives people there general moral code. Without religion it's more a matter of how you feel and no two people ever feel the same on important and moral issues. "As for me and my house, we will serve the lord." (Three guesses what I just quoted and first two don't count.)

Once you try to unify and/or codify atheist beliefs, what you got there is a religion. During my atheistic days, I always said "if I wanted a religion I'd convert to one" to the types of people who worship Penn&Teller, Christopher Hitchens, and Richard Dawkins as living gods.

As it stands, I went full-180 from no gods at all to polytheism modeled on classical Roman/Greek/Norse pagan traditions.

Not every scientist or scientific discovery is to disprove God or religions, it's just to find a few answers or cures, etc.
Some (me included) go as far as saying that science is researching and learning what God(or gods) have done. There areeven theories about Darwins evolution and Genesis (the first chapter in the old testimat) and how they actually Tie together and work together.
But these are ideas and theories, one of the best parts about them is letting us live together in peace anyways, despite religion (or lack of...)
