Not going to lie, Nintendo buying them would be just about the worst thing that I could imagine happening because it basically guarantees I won't buy an Atlus game again until Nintendo make a console that isn't a gimmicky piece of shit. So basically, I'd just never buy an Atlus game again.

I think Nintendo would make the most sense, since most of their main series' games (Shin Megami Tensei) started out on Ninty consoles, plus all the spin offs and non-SMT games on the DS/3DS.

It'd be a shame if Atlus went down and if it came down to it I'd rather have Nintendo buy Atlus than not have Atlus at all. Of course, it would probably be favorable if they could find a way to remain third party, but we'll have to see how this plays out.

while Nintendo has a huge problem with localization times and region locking
They're getting better at it though. They're bringing all their franchises westwards now, and are even localising games for other companies like Square Enix with Bravely Default. Sony never offered to step in to bring FF Type-0 westwards for PSP owners, and I believe part of the falling out with Capcom over Monster Hunter was the fact that Sony wouldn't split the cost of localisation with Capcom, whereas Nintendo would.

Region locking is a problem, sure, but it's something we've already had to put up with for decades, and I think its one of those things that has very little actual effect on most gamers.
Yes but it took many of use forever to get those games localized. Localization isn't as much of a problem for me as I know Japanese, but the region locking is a huge issue still. Mainly in the case with Sony it doesn't matter if it is localized, hell a lot of my imports aren't, but all I have to do is put it in and it will play fine. Meanwhile, if I try to do that with Nintendo consoles, DS and below not included in this sense they weren't region locked, I still have to go through a huge hassle to do it. Not only that, but then comes the fact that Nintendo has the habit of patching out those region locking bypasses and causes you to have to find a new one. And I know this is the case because otherwise the Freeloader program that was used to bypass the Nintendo GameCube wouldn't have been patched out by Wii Update 3.3. You have to constantly find a new way to break through the region locking, often times having to modify your console in the process which really shouldn't be the case.
I'll give you the Capcom thing when it comes to Monster Hunter, but FF Type-0 could still be played on a PSP even if it weren't localized because there is no region lock on the PSP.

Main thing I'm getting at is that just allowing us to be able to put the game in and play would be better then having to wait for localization that at times may never come to be. *sheds tears for the One Piece Unlimited Cruise series never being localized in the US along with the 3DS games as well*

Personally I'd rather Sony, because... then I might play their games again. I'm not buying a Wii-U/3DS for one game.

To the Nintendo fans that want to piss off sony fans remember all of gaming got the shaft when Microsoft bought rare. "Lets make rare develop for the Kinect and have some one else do Killer Instinct." When I say all of gaming got the Shaft, Rare innovated on many things used in gaming today and probably would still be innovating if Microsoft didn't buy them.

Isn't the Main purpose of Region locking to fight piracy. I was wondering would it be better if Nintendo just made a global Eshop so you don't have to go through the shipping process. I know some people do like to still have their games as a physical copy.

I am soo annoyed. I came in here with the expectation that Nintendo had bought Atlus and all I got was a huge list of why they might buy Atlus.

Argh! I can't believe I was dumb enough to get my hopes up.

Because Nintendo and Microsoft are the same company, design games the same way and handle business the exact same way?

It's one of the reasons that it's there. However in Nintendo's case they are afraid of piracy happening like what happen with the Sega Dreamcast in that people could play any game on their drive once they hacked it. The other reasons for it are to "protect the profits" of a country, which was the reason why Persona 4 Arena was the only PS3 game that was region locked, because apparently the "dollar was weak." The third reason is because some games might be banned in countries like Germany and they don't want people importing their games that aren't allowed there.
Really in Nintendo's case they go to a bit too much extremes because the Nintendo Optical Drive that Nintendo puts in all their disc consoles can only read Nintendo Optical Discs, and those aren't available on the market for consumers because they are afraid of piracy. Piracy was a problem in Japan with the DS because the R4 cartridges that were used to store the DS games were not originally in Japan and the government tried to legislate them, and only recently did they win.
Nintendo is very afraid of piracy partly because they saw what it did to Sega in the console race, and as a result they take huge precautions to try to dissuade pirates.

When it comes to the eShop that is not possible either because Nintendo has region locked both digital and physical things on the Wii U and the 3DS, the 3DS being the first handheld that is fully region locked since the most that ever happened before was the DSi region locking software. You can still play imported DS games on the 3DS because the emulation of DS games on the hardware doesn't lock out regions, since the DS was never fully region locked. Really in this day and age region locking just restricts the players to games they hope will get localized in their country, but there are many Nintendo games that are never localized. While jeffers is right that they are getting better, it's still not good enough to meet today's standards. Especially in the case in which you are moving to another country and none of the new games you buy in the new country will work with your original console because of the region locking. It's why when the Miiverse went live people started begging Nintendo to stop with the region locks because it is arbitrary, and heck even Microsoft of all people are doing away with region locking as the Xbox One isn't gonna be region locked anymore.

My main thing with this is that while there are ways around the region locking, you have to go through so much BS just to find the newest one that will work since Nintendo patches out those fixes, and if they just allowed it then it's be better, but they'll never do that unfortunately.

Hey. Hey, Nintendo.

I mean, I'm sure Atlus would be in good hands at Nintendo, what with SMT4 just being released on the 3DS and the SMT x Fire Emblem cross-over, but if they buy them and make Persona 5 exclusive to WiiU, I'm going to be severely disappointed.

I might be able forgive them if they decide to make a 3DS version, but it would have be entirely the same game with nothing taken out.

SO COME ON, SONY, BUY ATLUS, PLS.
Sony buys Atlus, no SMT X FE, so no...just no...

I want Atlus to remain a third party so they can develop for many other consoles, not just 2 (Wii-U/3DS or PS4/Vita) I hope they are taken in by XSeed or NIS.

Think of it Neon...SMT X Disgaea...
crazy demons and strange characters its a match made in heaven.

Think of the tile-based strategy...

But yeah, I would love it if they got bought by NIS. And NIS tends to publish Atlus games fairly often in Europe, don't they? That could only mean you guys get SMT games quicker.

That's part of the reason, but it's mostly just been money. It's the same way with the movie industry and their region locking. If someone wants a foreign copy of something, they either have to get the whole package with a device to use it on, or suck it up. Seldom is it mainly about piracy, not to mention Nintendo had their own forms of "region locking" built into the hardware back in the days when piracy was a less than common practice.

I'm not saying Nintendo is Microsoft by any chance. Nintendo might even have more of a reason to buy Atlus then Microsft had to buy Rare. Nintendo has a game in the works with atlus. I'm just trying to put Nintendo Fanboys in the shoes of Sony Fanboys. I think that its good for the industry when devs stay independent.
