Atlus is no more

Well apparently Atlus, the company who has brought us such games as Demon's Souls, the Shin Megami Tensei series, Trauma Center, and other well know games, was officially dissolved on Monday into its parent company, Index Holdings.

Index has said, it will still keep some of Atlus's current projects going, such as the recently announced game, Catherine, but the future of their game division is still in question.

What is the Escapist's view on this event/happening?

Myself, I'm kind of depressed now. I mean I love most of Atlus's games, and they have made some excellent RPGs for the DS, but now that they are gone and with no certain future...it kind of sucks..

I don't care for...well any of Atlus' games. I never played one of their games so I imagine this is like losing an uncle that you never met. You should feel sad, but you don't, because I never knew them.

Only ever played Trauma Center by them(and that game was well named,caused me plenty of trauma)so I can't say I'm too upset but it's never nice to see devs shut down

Oh, fuck... Not that I've actually played any of their games, but any company that has a massive following and a great line-up of game series falling over is immensely dissapointing.

Poor poor Atlus, getting eaten by it's parent company like that other dev I really liked.

Well, Atlus might still be around game design-wise. At the moment, Index is just condensing all of its companies down so that they can focus on their core profitable areas. So, Atlus might still be making games but as a smaller unit, or they will be snuffed entirely.

But atm, nothing is known for certain =/

It looks like those US demons souls servers will be closing down sooner than was expected.

Im just glad our eu version was published by namco bandai and not Atlus.

ok, there is a thread about this on the altus forums, really its just corporate restructuring, it shouldnt affect the games here in the us at all, at least according to the people at the forums at atlus

That's really, really stupid.
Atlus has great name recognition, and whenever anyone thinks of it (at least in the US) they think of quality products.

Why would they toss that out?

They consistently delivered critical successes but sales flops. It's unfortunate but it's not a big surprise.

Yeah, there was no real signs about this. No BIG flops from Atlus... recently, so little warning. Also, they made some good games. Had a love/hate thing with Trauma Center.

On the other hand, the people working at Atlus are still together, so still early to tell what may happen.
