By the way Attack on Titan is published in a seinen magazine. It's actually not shounen at all, even the time it's airing in Japan is later at night because of the violence level. And actually the part the anime is at now is probably the closest where it comes to those cliches, later on you'll see how good their so called badass genius actually does them.
Anyway, manga is pretty much divided into 4 demographics.
Shounen- for teenage boys
Shoujo- For a teenage girls
Seinen- For adult males
Josei- for adult females
Now the lines between them can be rather blurry but each generally has certain art styles and cliches associated with them.
