That would be an incorrect assumption. It's as state Attorney General that he had the veto power against the R18+ rating and that position he'll be replaced in come the next state ALP caucus, which is a few weeks away.

Anyone want to take a punt at how many days it will be before Aussie gamers under-18 realise that bringing in the R18+ rating will mean less games squeezed into the MA15+ rating and as a result will mean less games they can legally access?

He will retire to the back bench and serve his full term but will not recontest the seat of Croydon in 2014.

Atkinson, who was first elected to Parliament in 1989, made the GLORIOUS announcement outside a Prospect church just after 10.45am today.

Mr Atkinson, 51, has been THE FOCAL POINT for most of the major problems to have hit Labor in the past two terms.

He also has attracted national HATRED over his refusal to allow an R18+ rating for video games.

I'm just posting this quickly, but it seems like all the negative press on him has finally had an effect.

Yup the average ages of Australian gamers is 30, so not many will actually be affected by the change in age rating. For those that are, well they'll just have to believe in Atkinson and his assertion that parents don't really care if their children get mature games. That's moderately ironic.
