I like how everyone is assuming that the next person won't just be Atkinson times 2, or something equally as bad.

If the final vote count matches the current numbers, the ALP will have a grand 1 seat majority so they can't afford to have 'worse than Atkinson' in such an important portfolio with risking alienating some ALP backbencher so much that they cross the floor and create a hung parliament.

don't get too excited, atkinson may be a side note now but the ratings system is still where it was and will remain that way until they work out what to do about that opinion poll they ran.

and it likely wont change much even if it does go through, some MA15+ games will be rated 18+ and wont lose all of their features. it's still likely games will be banned for not falling under R rating classification. eg prostitutes in GTA may be considered X rating because they can be murdered after the deed to get your money back. that's rape and i don't think R covers rape.

essentially the games that are rated R after the rating comes in would have been MA.

either way i still hope it goes through,

an opinion poll on this website would have more weight. it might have had more than 5000 people respond for one. i'm all for the ratings getting revised. but i'm not popping the champagne until it actually is.
