EDIT: Whoops, double post.

TheSentinel said:
Not to be a buzzkill, but is this RP a foregone conclusion?
Yes, the conclusion is roughly set. Not sure why that should be a buzz-kill though. This isn't going to be one of those epic-style, massively free-roam types of RP's. The story and ending are already planned out, and it will be fairly short and to the point. Said point being to tell an exciting, engaging, emotional story.

Undecided. Through the weekend, at least. I want to give people as much time as they need to develop good characters.

About how many people are you looking for?
Eight will be the maximum. About five or six would be ideal. This number also depends on how many high quality characters I get ;)

On that note, I'd like to mention to all of you who have already made characters, that you'll be free to edit them as much as you wish, until auditions end.

Added to the OP under Rules: Clarification on Unnamed NPC's.

@Yorg: Sorta unrelated, but have you heard from Aqua lately?

It appears she may have vanished again and it would be a shame for her to miss out on this. ):

Also, expect me to do alot of editing over these next few days, if only due to excessive amounts of free time.

Name: Aryana Tabrizi

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Appearance: Aryana is quite beautiful; her wispy, brown hair reaches past her shoulders and flows in the slightest of winds. If you study her face you will notice her foggy slate gray eyes have a slight slant and her forehead a slight wrinkle. Her lips are full and red almost giving the appearance of wearing lipstick, you should move next to her small nose then to her rather defined chin. Her teeth are confusingly straight and white and are contrasted by her skin which is a light tan colour despite spending little time in the sun. Her skin is smooth, soft an almost untouched, despite her impressive skill-set, she has never been in a true battle. This is why her body is virtually scar free and untouched. She stands at around 5'8 which is rather tall for a woman; most of her height coming from her long legs. Her body is that of an athlete, fairly small breasts, muscular arms and long, very powerful legs. Aryana is aware of her beauty, but at the same time is very modest about it. She doesn't lead men on and although she may dabble in romantic endeavors, by no means does she do it often.

Equipment: Aryana uses light armour, the way she fights and moves would make heavy armour more than difficult to wear. Her armour is slightly altered, she sacrifices some protection for agility. Her shoulders and knees are separate plates and attached to the rest of the armour via straps, this helps her move faster and makes her much more agile. Her boots are warm and light, as is her helmet.
The shield she uses was her fathers, it is rather small and lightweight, and has an engraved ram head on the front. It is in excellent condition like most of her equipment, this is from two things. One being that she always polishes and cleans her equipment immediately after battle, the other being that she rarely uses the shield. If she does use the shield it would be in a very close battle which she tries to avoid.
She uses a special bow crafted by her father, it is much smaller than your typical bow which has its advantages and disadvantages. The bow is much faster to fire, it is much more mobile than bigger bows and easier to carry around. The downside to a small bow is a lack of power and lack of distance. Essentially the bow is made for short range, fast paced combat. If the battle becomes too short ranged or she loses her bow, she has a spare shortsword which she holsters on her lower leg. It is very short, very narrow and very sharp. No matter the equipment

Personality: Aryana is very calm, very cool and very intelligent. Nothing she does, no decisions down to the smallest of things go without great calculations and contemplations. Everything has an effect on the future, from killing to reading a book, it will affect you at some point. This is how she lives her life; even in the battlefield she is making decision after decision, should I climb this tree? Should I spare this life? Outside of the battle she can come off as rather cold and distant, because of her calculated way of living, it may seem to others that she is impersonal and rude. It is quite the opposite however; it is merely her trying to decipher how befriending a person will reflect on her life. Ask any of her fellow soldiers if she is distant and they will tell you how friendly she truly is. This is because she has determined that a strong bond with these people will not only heighten her chances of survival, but will also help her expand her intellect, work on her social skills and most of all, keep her happy and content.

Backstory: Isolated would be an understatement to describe Aryana's childhood. Growing up north of the Icewillow River and on the cusp of the Copper Wastes, her and her father shared a small dwelling on the foot of a mountain. With her mother dying in childbirth, it was up to her father to raise, train and mentor Aryana. She began life with books, her father was always reading to her and at an early age she began reading on her own. If she wasn't reading inside the warm house, she was bundled up and spending time on the grassy, yet frosty, mountainside. Learning how to hunt and make the most of the animals, using the pelt for clothes, the meat for food and the bones for tools and weapons. She was also trained by her father to be a great warrior, she learned how to be agile and quick in battle, and how to stay protected and warm without sacrificing agility. Her father taught her many things about philosophy and considering the future, he was a very intelligent man and no doubt Aryana's hero and mentor. When she was 17, Aryana's father fell ill, he quickly died and she made the hard decision to leave the place where she was born and raised for the outside world. Knowing she would go insane if she stayed on her own, she packed as much-and as little- as she could and set out. Knowing she would never return to the modest mountainside home, she headed out in search of society and humanity. Se came across the group of soldiers and decided that if nothing else, she could at least get some battle experience and maybe be in a battle or two.

Extra: She is never the first to strike, always waits for a counter as opposed to attacking. She has a book on her at all times for reading, and a journal at all times for recording her life.

EDIT- Added more info to her shield and made her very slightly shorter.
EDIT 2- Noted a lack of scars and explained why she joined the soldiers.

She's one of the people I'm specifically waiting on, the other two being Threewords and my write friend (whom I may have mentioned here before). I sent her a PM, but she hasn't replied yet. Her last post was the 6th, last activity was the 17th. Dunno where she went.

It's a shame that all the great writers are also the most unreliable :(

EDIT- Question about the villagers, can we have a villager to be if our soldier dies? Or do we have to play as both throughout the whole RP?

EDIT 2- Urgh I didn't want to double post but I finished my sheet so here it is! :D Hope its up to your standards and if there is anything wrong do tell me.

Yes, you will have to control the villager as well though the entire RP, not jst after you die. This is mostly to make sure that the villager isn't just a backup character. They need to feel like somebody worth dying for.

That being said, the frequency of your posts as the villager can be very flexible, due to the their fairly under-the-radar role. A post every now and then to show how the ordeal is affecting them would be sufficient.

Also, great sheet. Remember to make sure she has a shield though, even if it is a small one. They are by far the most versatile weapon.

She vanished and left me hanging in one of my RPs :( I sent her a PM but she hasn't responded yet...
Much like she submitted a sheet for mine, but never showed up. Only after much PM harassing she finally said she didn't have time and wanted out.

On Topic: Expect a sheet later. This one's a must, seeing all the fine folks joining.

Ummm... i don't know, five maybe? It'll fluctuate depending on the circumstances. For instance:

During the very beginning of the story and the evacuation especially, there should be a good number of posts from the villagers, as that would be a very traumatic time for most of them. Having to suddenly up and abandon their home without warning makes for good writing.

If they're participating in some kind of activity or leadership, such as hunting, gathering food, or building shelters, some posts should be made for that.

During battles where they aren't fighting, simply being defended, not many posts would be needed, just maybe one to show what's going through their head or how scared they are.

One simple rule of thumb you can follow is this; the more involved your villager gets, the more posts he should get. As the story progresses he or she may get more involved with the soldiers, make friends, etc etc, and so his or her character should be more prominent. Also, keep in mind, you can RP more than one character per post ;)

Final Note: The villagers CAN die. I'll try to keep both of your characters from dying off early, but there are no guarantees. The villagers are NOT a promised "live to the end" card.

Final Final Note: Don't feel pressured into controlling a villager, as I will be controlling many myself and giving them as much personality as I can. This is only if you want to.

Name: Damien Puremantle

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Appearance: Damien strikes a very imposing figure. Measuring at a over six feet, his height alone would scare away anyone who doesn't know him, those who do however, know him to be a righteous and good man who can be very gentle. The scars of many battles also mar his body, but he wears them all as grim reminders of the evil in the world that must be stopped. He wears a short cut military hairstyle and has always kept his appearance as clean cut and orderly as possible.

Equipment: Damien is comfortable in the heaviest of armors, he wears the crested plate armor of a Silver Paladin, a shielded crest of the empire's flag with two rearing armored steeds on each side, and keeps it in pristine condition. He is adept at using any melee weapon but prefers to use his large heavy steel claymore. He also carries the crested shield of his order and a longsword at his hip in case his trusty Claymore is out of reach. He carries the medallion of his orders Grandmaster in a pouch strapped around his chest, refusing to actually wear it himself, saying that he is not the man destined to lead his order back to glory, but that his destiny is to discover the man who will.

Personality: Damien is a Paladin first and foremost. His actions and personality reflect those of the noblest of protectors of the law and his emperor. Always striving to defend the weak and defeat the wicked, many seem to consider Damien as an ancient remnant of a dead order, clinging to pointless morals in an increasingly unforgiving world.

Damien is a quiet and self-contained man, he rarely speaks unless spoken to or when battle is met. He will however offer advice when asked and is very wise for his young age.

Backstory: Damien's mother died giving birth to him, he was then raised in the local orphanage and later sent to the church for priesthood training. Despising life in the priesthood he often got into fights with his peers and masters, one day breaking a priest's arm and knocking him unconscious while receiving punishment for disobedience. It was after this incident that the Church wished to cast him out and he was luckily adopted by The Order of the Silver Knights. The Order was raised him to become a Paladin, channeling his anger and fighting spirit into a potent combat instinct used to defend the people of the Empire. However, his training would end quickly. It was during the Grand Crusades that the Order of the Silver Knights were sent to the east in order to quell the situation before it escalated to all out war. The Paladins of the order were decimated, only leaving 2 survivors; Damien and 1 other. Over the course of the following years, Damien has joined in the war effort fighting alongside many soldiers and becoming a war hero at the age of only 26. Even without the presence of his order, he still upholds their virtues and fights in their name to this day.

Extra: Damien has a rudimentary skill in Blacksmithing that he has learned from his studies in the Order, it is why he is able to maintain his equipment in good condition. He is also meant to be the perfect Paladin, orderly, righteous, just and able to kill all evil that stands in his way or the way of the people he must protect. He is always demonstrating perfect behavior and manners and will always be groomed and presentable.

(if someone wants to be the 2nd Paladin survivor feel free, if this is approved of course.)

Hm... ok... *sigh* I dont know if I will or not. I kind of want too, but I'm not sure if I want to have to RP two characters at once... I will think about it >_<

Name: Antonio Del Sol

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Appearance: Sands at 5'11", has a balanced physic of muscle and tanned skin. His black hair spikes up near his hair line and he has orange eyes (if this isn't acceptable I'll change it). He wears an engagement ring on his left ring finger and his upper body has many scars. He also wears a pair of glasses whose lenses have been darkened to his eyes' sensitivity to light.

Equipment: Wears heavy plate armor and uses a long falchion with a shield an extra sword strapped behind his waist.

Personality: Antonio usually seems like the silent type who only speaks when there's something important to say or when he wants to tell someone he finds annoying to shut up. He at times seems very cold and expressionless when in more social situations. In battle, Antonio goes from cold silence to hot rage and absolutely tears into the enemy until non are left standing. Antonio always seems to be holding back an intense rage, making others fear to be around him, however this changes when around his fiance Maria.

Backstory: Antonio was born in the town he was defending to a craftsman and a housewife. It can be said that he joined the army out of a desire to go out and crush some skulls and the amount of fury he exhibits when doing so seems to reinforce this idea.

Extra: Antonio tends to speak in 'Spanglish' when in less formal situations and tends to curse in his parents' native tongue.

Good, except for the Spanish influence. This is set in a fantasy world, so just take thsoe parts out and it will be fine.

Your sheet's fine, the Paladin aspect is nice, just make sure you keep in mind that these are not legendary heroes. He seems like the kind of character you might tend to make bigger than he really is. If you want to control a villager as well, PM me their sheet and I'll look it over. Basics guidelines for villagers;

Their occupation can be pretty much anything. Highburn used to be a mining town, until the ore ran out and the mines became unsafe. Now it's main industries are lumber and hunting/trapping.

Equipment can be pretty much anything as well, just try to stay away from contemporary weapons or expensive things, unless they are family heirlooms. These are villagers, after all.

Villagers should NOT be warriors or soldiers. It's fine of they know how to punch, but they shouldn't be trained in the arts of combat.

They SHOULD be inhabitants of Highburn, ie the town is their home.
