Nationalism or Patriotism...
The first was considered a bad word, which is why they don't like using politically cause the old folk still remember fighting nationalistic China during the Vietnam era. So they call all patriotism, though it is the same BS that is nationalism! All to hide the fact they are racist, bigots who think their nation of choice can do no wrong even when it is dropping napalm on people. True patriots want what is best for thier nation and understand droping napalm on people is just going to make your country look bad in the long run.
Blind support is all the politicians want though, that is why they love their racists though they can't come out and say it. These people can always be relied on to support your orders to drop bombs on brown people. That we have become so westernized that these same bigots are claiming to be patriots while telling people to 'love it or *removed* off' just disgusts me.
Ironic a little, these people using the day we first colonized Australian soil as a excuse to beat up on people who immigrated or are two or third generation removed from immigrants.
As for the day, never thought much on it. Personally I think it should have less significants, yes it is the day white people stepped foot on this rock but there are much more important dates out there which are not remembered. How about the day we actually became a nation in our own rights? That isn't given any special holiday, not even mentioned at all except for the 100 year mark....
I guess it is nicer then Christmas or Easter though, national holidays should NOT have religious significance if they are secular states. Australia is a secular state, so why the hell do we give religious holidays government support? Personally I still want to beat the idiots who are calling for the removal of Anzac day as a holiday. yeah, lets make it so only Christian religious dates should be holidays, thats not going to piss people off.
