OT:I don´t think that starting a website will help the anti-R18 community allot.Seeing as how many or even most people that use the internet to some extent are gamers.Or somehow connected to the gaming community.

God I hate these twats, just because we have an R18+ rating doesn't mean we have to approve ratings for everything, if something is so morally objectionable (rapelay) you can still refuse it a rating, the reason most of us want R18+ is so that games that are obviously R18+ stop getting released as M15, i.e GTA games.

Ignorance is apparent on this persons blog, as he claims that games like 'that japanese game' (mind me, i am at Tafe at the moment, so i have to keep it clean) and manhunt will instantly let in upon the release of the R rating.

He knows that those games will not be let in the country as they are deemed too graphic even for the R rating.
If he doesn't, then he needs to really start to get some more insight before coming to this argument. Then again, ignornace is a force to be reckoned with, thanks to fox and current affair shows.

Something that I'm not sure has been explicitely stated that I'm wondering about. Do Aussies not get to play M games? And they want to make the M rating R18? Personally I think the ESRB ratings need some redefining as even in north america it's my opinion that we have some M games that are quite mild and some M games that are super gory, vulgur, sexually explicit, or just downright terrifying for less mature audiences and therefore even here we should have M and R18... but to say all Mature games are equivalent to R18 is pretty silly. Think about movie ratings...

And their argument that you're "doing" instead of "watching" (gaming vs movies) is pretty pathetic. Is the crowd who cheers on a gang beatdown of highschoolers not a culprit?? The bystander has as much choice as the perpetrator.

Violent video games for me at least are a method of taking out anger on digital people so that I'm not tempted to hurt real people.

Statements like this are what destroy the credibility of what we're fighting for.

No offense, but the whole nerd-rage "I'm not weak and strange, but a human predator who would be doing terrible things to you all if video games weren't keeping me occupied" thing is pathetic and and has been around in one form or another since the dawn of time (albeit using things other than video games). Trying to present such arguements in the course of a serious dialogue on a subject makes people go 'WTF' and actually hurts the case as nobody takes it seriously since all it is, is someone trying to make themselves feel bigger. I'm tired of hearing it, it's not so much that I'm going off on you.

Actually, the truth is that every human still has the brain of a hunter-gatherer that one day decided to turn to agriculture for food procurement and became sedentary to support this new way of life. If any evolution occurred between then and now, it would have been (at the most) social. No matter how you try to sugar coat it, humans are violent by nature. There was a time when it was a necessity for survival in the Darwinian sense. Sedentism doesn't have room for much violence, so competition and sport were invented to channel aggression.

On your 'nerd-rage' comment, no, not everyone is capable (physically and/or mentally) of committing acts of violence. Not everyone is a fan or sports and competition either. This is a product of society and general upbringing and those people, most likely, have other outlets to channel any subconscious aggression.

1 its more difficult to DoS a site like that since its got no comment boxes that i can see
2 or its too low profile and not worth it to anyone brave enough to bother

The aspect which generates clear and resolute definitions of right and wrong, real and unreal.

I increasingly think that the arguments against an R18 rating are not so much games hurt children than a quiet assumption; that gamers are children no matter their age. Conservatives - if they wish to be identified as such - seem to me to be behaving with a baffling disregard and condescension to fellow adult citizens, resorting to half-truths and paralogism which might work on children, but really shouldn't even enter into mature debate.

Here is my current view summed up in three easy bullet points.

->There are R18+ games in Australia but our laws dictate that they must be MA15+.
->"Many studies" can be transformed or completely contradicted by other studies.
->Parents must be the regulators of a child's mental nutrition. Adults must be permitted to self-regulate.

To summarise, the gross feeling of revulsion I experience when confronted with a person who wishes to strip me of liberties which harm no actual person, is similar to the one I feel when I hear fundamentalists decrying the hellbound fate of anyone not particular to their church.
