I dunno man, our snakes freak me out way more than our spiders do. I mean, spiders you can just obliterate with a shoe or something but snakes are not so easy to take care of, the recommended solution being to freeze in fear and hope that it shows mercy, or you could just wear tall boots and jeans.
Whoa whoa whoa, whoa. Hold on a second. Are you telling me that you've killed this:
with a shoe? What size feet do you have?
That's not a shoe. Now that, that's a shoe.

Seriously though, if it sits in a web, it's only a worry to things in the web.

Now, the ones to worry about are the ones that wander around. They could be anywhere. Like right behind you.

And there's no point checking, they disappear when you look for them, but they're still around...somewhere..

[small](Seriously, you know that thing serial killers do in movies where they disappear when people stop watching them for a moment, or suddenly appear somewhere they shouldn't be able to be for a jump scare? Australian spiders love doing that)[/small]

Ugh, tell me about it. Spiders: As long as you can see them, you don't need to worry.

I'm just glad that here in the States I don't have to worry about things like huntsmen crawling through the cracks under a door and then sitting on my wall, or spiders that just love hiding underneath a toilet seat so you have to check it every time you need to go.

I don't think I'm ever going to visit Australia.

TBH, a lot of Australian spiders are harmless. There's some I don't mind in my room, as long as they stay on the ceiling and not jump down in front of my screen.

It seems to me that spiders are only really scary if they are hairy. The ones without hairs are ok, and they eat other, more annoying bugs, so fair enough.

Oh, I get that. But it doesn't change how I would feel if I woke up one morning, started going about my business, and saw a Huntsman hanging out on the wall.

For the most part I have to agree, though. It's the big, fat, quick, hairy ones that freak me right the fuck out, like when they shoot out from underneath the couch while I'm playing a game or watching TV or something. Ones with long, spindly legs and small bodies that just hang out in their webs don't really bother me.

But abnormally large ones will creep me out regardless of the amount of hair they have.

At least she's found peace in the reality of never having to do Q&A again.

That said, the end will be brought by demonic PSY zombies.

Also, I'm surprised by the YouTube comments. This seems to be the first deadpan joke that nearly everyone seems to get.

Hah, she is great, you would never see the Canadian Prime Minister doing something fun like that.

What a great position to be in to make a joke. I approve.
I know, right? We're stuck with him doing Beatles tributes that double as massive swings at incompetent opposition leaders.

Sad thing is there are people out there right now that are preparing suicide pacts/stocking up on shit because they think this will be true.

Haha ok maybe I've never encountered anything larger than a huntsman but you have to admit that... thing would still be easier to fight than a snake. After all, the tiny spiders are the ones with all the dangerous venom, that monster is probably all just brute force, its venom isn't going to do anything to a human.

I present to you exhibit number 2!

I'm pretty sure that spider has invalidated your argument. :D

Australia can keep telling the rest of the world that its fauna aren't deadly, I'll be over here with the normal sized spiders, thanks. You know, the ones that don't eat snakes. >.>

Ok you got me, the truth is that our spider overlords spare our lives if we lure in unsuspecting foreigners for them to feast on.

Also, snakes may be shit at fighting spiders but they are pretty overpowered against humans, nerf snakes imo.

I knew it! They all said I was crazy, but who's the crazy one now!?! I bet the spider overlords are going to rise up on December 21st, and that's the prophecy the Mayans were talking about! They're probably controlling Julia Gillard into making that speech to throw everybody else off their trail!

I don't have to engage many snakes in fisticuffs, so I don't necessarily share the sentiment, though.

They throw a strong right hook for something without any limbs.

So immature . This is the people australians vote for? How very irresponsible . What about the people that MIGHT take this seriously? Sure it's funny to us , but somewhere there is a poor lad who is taking this speech seriously , and spending his saving on useless crap out of fear of the apocalypse . I disapprove.

Little known fact: all Australians wear clown shoes for just such an occasion.

First the Chaser at the APEC summit- then radio shock jocks... and now the friggin Prime Minister. As an Aussie I've never especially thought we've had much in the way of an internationally recognised pastime...

But could it be that while the UK has it's comedy, the US has it's blockbusters, France it's romance, Canada it's friendliness...

Australia has become the go-to country for pranking and taking the piss out of everything?

If it is then... you know what? I'm OK with that.
Yeah sounds about right. Just look at stuff like Kath & Kim, or anything by Chris Lilley.

That depends highly if you're being sarcastic or stupid. I can't tell.

Hint: It's a joke.

OT: That made me chuckle. Not all the time you see country leaders do something that's actually rather relevant and funny.

I think I would die of suffocation from laughter if Barack Obama did something like this. hahaha.

Have you seen the opposition leader...?

Julia Gillard just won my vote in the next election, if we survive.
