Small correction, the parliamentary leader of the party is the Prime Minister. The parliamentary leader and the national leader of the party (usually the party president) are not always the same person... in fact, if memory serves me, in the ALP if the national president is an MP they can't take up a ministry.

As an Aussie I've never especially thought we've had much in the way of an internationally recognised pastime...
Australians have always been recognized for one particular pastime that no other people on Earth can boast:

Surviving on gods-be-damned Australia

Nah, plenty of people can survive Australia.

Australians are different in that we wouldn't want to live anywhere else. (and the ones that don't are encouraged to fuck off right smartly)

So immature . This is the people australians vote for? How very irresponsible . What about the people that MIGHT take this seriously? Sure it's funny to us , but somewhere there is a poor lad who is taking this speech seriously , and spending his saving on useless crap out of fear of the apocalypse . I disapprove.
It's either her or a sexist idiot who hasn't come up with one idea since he became leader of the party. Trust me, she's the lesser of two evils. And if anyone takes this seriously they were already convinced it was going to happen, it's obvious that it's a joke.

This is pretty great, it's always nice when our politicians do something for a bit of a laugh. It's strange to be laughing with them, rather then at them =D.

Sorry to quote you again since it seems everyone is having a go at you. I'd just like to point out that no one is going to take this seriously as it's part of an advert for a radio show.

Here's the full version.

So no one is going to be convinced she is being serious.

Ok, in Australian politics we don't vote for an individual like a president, we vote vote for party, and the leader of the party is the Prime Minister. When her party was voted into office a guy named Kevin Rudd was the leader, and thus Prime Minister, but internal conflicts led to him being asked to step down after a year or so as PM and Julia took his place. The public had no say in who the PM should be.
What you said is true, but after the leadership change there was the election in 2010, where the Labor party formed a minority government with Julia Gilard as the leader. So the majority of Australians, in a way, wanted her as Prime Minister. Well "want" is strong word. Let's just say they preferred her over the other options.

Of course not. This this what truly happened.

I kid, I kid...well that I might of happened? XD

OT:

Wow... Mrs Gillard actually did something funny.
Pretty amazing if you ask me.

I'm glad she can do things like this and not be serious once in a while.

Though she is doing a bad job so far. :/
(Well I think so since my internet is still crap!)

They're right, but they need to put it together: it'll be demonic k-pop zombie hell beasts, who eat flesh.

Honestly, there would literally be panic in the streets if Obama delivered this address deadpan and word for word in the United States. And then it would be the main Republican talking point for the rest of his term. Faux News would probably refer to it as Zombie Gate, or something.

A week or two ago she denied any complicity in faking the moon landings, or assassinating JFK (or pushing Harold Holt into a Chinese submarine, but most people wouldn't know who that was).

...

Mind you, as jokes by politicians go, Reagan's "5 Minutes" is pretty good.

How do you know Harper wasn't trolling even harder?

She found out about about my flesh eating and k-pop singing army of zombie hell beasts. Heads will roll when I find out who leaked this bit of info...

Hah, she is great, you would never see the Canadian Prime Minister doing something fun like that.

What a great position to be in to make a joke. I approve.
Old Trudeau or Mr. Chretian would pull off this kind of hijinks. Not Mr Robo Harper though. (Beep-Boop)

Pierre Trudeau is my favorite Prime Minister, unfortunatly he was before my time and I never go to experience his greatness first hand.

You know, I wanted to visit Australia one day. I thought it would be a lot like Texas, but with more snakes and all of the dirt was kind of red. But no, now I learn there are spiders that eat birds, snakes, and probably fully grown kanga-friggin-roos too. Snakes? Fine. "Drop bears"? Fine. Spiders? Yeahh...nope.

Back on topic: I now want to see which state governor makes a proclamation like that first. I am almost certain it will happen.

As an Australian myself, I've never really been all that fond of Julia Gillard.
That video, however, made me gain some respect for her- it's actually pretty cool she was willing to do this.
