You know I can understand all the aim-assist mechanics that are put into console shooters to compensate the problems of aiming with a controller, but isn't auto targeting going too far?

I mean I've been playing Red Dead Redemption lately and since the game features this, I just can't enjoy how easy mode it all is. I mean with the SP I had to turn that crap off after the third hour out of boredom for the lack of a challenge. But in MP I'm going to have to have it on since no one's aiming can beat auto target...lol

The MP reminds me of the auto targeting in WoW but in that game there's a lot of strategy involved and fights can last somewhere between 10seconds to an hour considering the opponent. In a shooter it's all about twitch mechanics and aiming down your sites the fastest so why throw in auto aim when it takes half a second to pull a trigger and kill someone anyways?

I thought the auto targeting was a little much at first, but when your shooting from the back of a moving horse or stagecoach, it gets to be a little hairy without the targeting set to atleast normal. On expert, you'd have to be a real cowboy to hit some of the fast moving targets.

I've never been a big fan of auto-targeting in shooting games. It really turned me off of GTA 4, and I was hoping that Red Dead Redemption would be different, because I'm really stoked to play that game (gotta wait until payday /sigh)

As for WoW, I think it actually works alright for it, because of the special moves you have to be using, and the sheer complexity of how that system works, but for shooters it generally feels like a cop out. Too easy.

There's an ability called Dead Eye that freezes time just about, enough time to line up 15 shots and kill a wave of flying eagles while on horse back coming in all direction.

There is compensation for shooting while riding a horse, so why throw in auto target while at it?

Getting rid of auto-aim is easy. Go to the options menu and turn it off simple.
True but MP is still ruined by it.

its a pain in free rome MP, where your nearly forced to use auto aim or be at abig disadvantage to the people who do, it really takes a lot of the skill away

In addition to turning it off there are servers that only allow normal and expert, and there are even ones that only allow expert, so it really isn't that much of an issue.

I have my 360 set to automatically disable it for any game I play so I've been playing without it and it hasn't been that much of a problem.

The game is supposed to make you feel like the most badass cowboy this side of the border. Besides, it's not like cowboys in real life don't have auto-aim. Psh, with the shitty accuracy of 1900s weapons, you could ask yourself how anyone even died otherwise back then.

Auto aim/targeting on the PC is a crime against nature, on the console its a crutch to compensate for the handicap of the controller. Personally I've never really understood why anyone wants to play FPS on a console, its like swimming in treacle with one arm tied behind your back.

In RDR you can actually beat the auto-aim. Just straif as much as you can and the opponent will usually miss multiple shots on you as long as you are at a solid distance.

I remember reading the most bloodiest gun battle ever left four people dead.

Four.

That's kinda weak.

Auto target should NOT be online, but plenty of sinple player 3rd person shooters tend to need it.
This is why I favor First person over 3rd in competitive shooters. In CoD2 I am quite the marksman.
