the first one was great, but if hes gonna milk hollywood of another 500 million bucks, id like to see how the fuck he´ll be allowed to do so.
I don't think that'll be a huge issue. I Think most of the money was spent developing the technology in the first place. Now that it's there the cost will probably be cut back.

I liked Avatar alot, yes, but this is no movie that can have a good sequel. Please, no sequel...
Again.
This is James fucking Cameron. His sequels have been titled as some of the greatest movies ever.
Not every sequel sucks. Stop being such a fucking baby (this is directed at all nay sayers, not just you). JC is an artist with films. He can't fuck up.
I'm trying to have faith in him, but I have issues with it.

The sequel seems all written up before me. The entire movie will have him trying to live a normal life on Pandora, then they'll get a bunch of new friends, one of them who will be the boring comic releif character. Then they'll go on some kind of adventure on the planet yada yada yada... It seems to basic.

Although Avatar was never original, basically Pochahontas reverse roles in space, so maybe he will make it good. Just please no Jar-Jar Binks of Avatar...

Allowed to do so? Emmerich keeps making movies. Bay keeps making movies. I am pretty sure Cameron is safe.

That being said, I don't think Avatar should have a sequel. I don't know where the story can go to, except Pocahontas 2 or another invasion (the same story again)...

And if Avatar hadn't been like the word's highest profit, fasting earning film ever, would the plan have always been for a trilogy then?
Yes, it's always been planned as a trilogy. He stated so before the movie even came out.

I have faith in Cameron; he'll do the right thing.

I can't truthfully say i enjoyed the first, now don't get me wrong it was a visually stunning film, but like many have pointed out it is just alien pocahontas.

And with everyone saying that a sequel will just be another invasion of Pandora, maybe they will leave the whole original story line behind? leave the whole Pandora and big blue Alien thing behind and move on to other conflicts that are happening in the Avatar universe?

I for one would like to see the next film based on how the Human culture as it seems to have gone down the shitter, the universe seems rich with potential and could do well as a sci-fi saga. It could quite easily expand to depict other scenarios where the whole control of another being is used for more fundimental tasks rather then 'talk to the natives'. But hey, we can all dream can't we

Oh no, because all sequels automatically suck! Why can't they get in a good director who actually has experience crafting some of the best sci-fi action sequels of all time on the job instead? Oh, hang on...

Cameron knows what he's doing. He's already created a whole universe in his head for Avater, which I'm looking forward to seeing on screen. Hopefully it won't be another 12 years though.

EDIT:

Wow, so many whiners.
Does everyone here not remember how much bette Camerons sequels were?
Aliens and The Terminator both ended and had no need for a sequel, then we got Aliens and T2. Both were much better than the originals.
Jamers Cameron is NOT Michael Bay people.
This man speaks the truth. Sequels are not a bad thing in capable hands.

but there was closure... how can you add on a sequel unless you give a retarded plot point to do so?

He DID make back all of the money and then some. Avatar actually broke a record for reaching some absurd amount of cash in 17 days.

There was closure in Alien and the Terminator, and those sequels turned out ok, in the hands of James Cameron no less. Actually, I'd say they managed to surpass the originals in just about every way, and in a much more enclosed universe than Avatar, as well. Rest assured Avatar has plenty of potential for sequels.

No. No. No.

Avatar 1 was a boring, insultingly predictable, derivative crapfest saved only by excellent visuals and above average performances. It also had a proper ending. It doesn't need a fucking sequel, Cameron! Lay it to rest and fuck off and do Jean Michel Cousteu's job for another fucking decade! Then come back with a GOOD movie! Just can the idea right now. Please?

Now if you'll excuse me... I'm heading for the hills before the Avatar worshipers come to castrate me.

It'll be good, and anyone who does not see sequel opportunities in Avatar need their heads examined.

There are many Navi Tribes...they're not peaceful, or else they'd not need massive warbows, or warriors. There are many many humans, and unobtanium is incredibly valuable...

There's loads of stuff to make movies about.

Hmm. Well considering how I'm sick of Avatar 1 without having ever seen it(that's right, everyone shut the fuck up about it) this has little effect on me. I'm certain this will also get hyped up out of all proportion and any interest I would've had will dwindle away as more and more people harp on about it.

Again, I stress, everyone shut up about Avatar.
