Then voice that opinion instead of just bashing Avatar and complementing Dark Knight.
How else would you interpret the post? Seriously, you got something else from this: "The world's become a population of graphics whores!"?
Hahahaha, This makes me laugh.
And I agree it has. doesn't matter. In like a years time a better looking film will be made. CGI dates... and quickly[/quote]

Not if its down well though. Stuff like Jurassic Park uses CGI at the fringes of real life effects to touch it up and looks great - yes the raw CGI parts now look pants but its an excellent film for seeing what works or doesn't.

Similarly if you look at Starship Troopers and The Fifth Element - the CGI very rarely grates at all.

What dates instantly is an attempt to replace actors and physical effects with rendered graphic. And in ten years people will, by and large, have forgotten Avatar except for as a graphics landmark - I'm not convinced The Dark Knight is going to suffer that fate.

Plus, The Dark Knight on blu ray is epically good looking - as well!

Yeah, well its got nothing on the Dark Knight in terms of acting, script, character and ... well basically everything except visual effects.

The world's become a population of graphics whores!
We get it, you didn't like it.

How is this post at all helpful to the thread?
Because the Dark Knight was the previous one? And that films that are, on any level other than CGI, pretty average. So for it to be the highest grossing film is a sad day for cinema.

What was I supposed to get from it? That you were talking about how Graphics are more important than a good story? Then say that. It wasn't obvious, all I saw was you bashing Avatar more.

When you consider inflation
Ticket prices, recessions etc
Gone with the Wind is the highest grossing film, followed by Star Wars

Ah, Gone with the Wind...

Saw it for the first time last year... I was amazed by the blatant sexism, racism and implied marital rape that aparently all seemed so... normal in those days. Madness.

And welcome to the Escapist, may you enjoy your stay.

What a shitty film. *sigh*

I just have to keep remembering that terrible things sometimes sell a lot... like McDonald's. Yeah. Just because people buy a lot of it doesn't mean they think it's good... like McDonald's.

Then the voice in the back of my head goes "oh, but if they're buying McDonald's and Avatar and Avatar toys at McDonald's in the Happy Meals then they're encouraging cheap, un-challenging, garbage, while not making other things that are truly better lucrative enough for people with great ideas to pursue."

Then I get sad again.
