Do you find that you have a bias towards or against a particular type of avatar?
My Little Pony avatars. Every time I see one I think "Oh great, I sure hope this pony fan isn't here to derail this thread."

I don't care about the actual show or think less of them for watching it. It's just that so many of the fans think it's the only thing anyone should talk about, and throw down a pony discussion wherever they can regardless of if it's relevant.
Colour me curious

Examples of this?

At all of the anti-anime avatar people: I hope mine isn't too annoying. If it helps me look better, it's from an 80's anime, Which is basically Japan's Star Trek: The Next Generation; you wouldn't look down on me for a Captain Picard avatar, would you?
Trust me, the rage your avatar has caused me has rendered me too blind to read your posts.
Not sure if joking, or actually serious...

Edit: Although the pony avatar lends itself to the "joking" category. Not only should us anime fans and the bronies stick together, since our avatars are generally hated, but I'm also a brony -- just not big enough of one to get a pony avatar. I'm also more a fan of the specific series that my avatar is from than I am anime in general, although I do like animation, regardless of country of origin.
I was joking. :)

Don't ask, you'll never get one. I've asked about proof of this in many threads but have yet to see an example of the aforementioned mass pony derailment.

Having yourself or a meme (MLP does not count) is kinda weird to me.
A meme I can understand, but yourself? Could you explain why showing an image of yourself instead of a fake representation of you is weird?

You've got my curiosity running!
Something about it gives off that kind of "Look at me I'm so different (or the occasional look at me I'm so good looking)" vibe, not that people who have themselves as their avatars always think that, but that's just the kind of impression they give me.

I find the sudden onslaught of Justian Beiber avatars to be annoying. Even I have a Justian Beiber avatar. Whaaa-? Wierd.
You pressed the red button, didn't you?

OT: Apart from the Bieber fiasco (which I fell victim too as well), I really don't have any negative feelings toward most avatars, and I have seen some really good ones. Of course, this may sound biased, but any Spice & Wolf avatar is obviously superior to anything.

Avatars that don't work. Seriously, I go to all the trouble of finding a good picture that reflects my interests while obeying size restrictions and BOOM! All that scouring for nothing.

So long as it doesn't move and be obnoxious about that movement, I really have no problem with it as I ignore most of them anyway.

Nope. Not negatively anyways. I tend to enjoy the moving ones or if there's a joke somewhere in there. I usually skim through posts but if the avatar is interesting I'll probably read the post solely based on that.

You aren't getting any. I've asked him in another thread and never got an answer.

None of them really bug me but for some reason I always equate the person talking to their avatar.

Give him a chance..

"So many" means that it probably shouldn't be hard to track the examples down. So far to me it seems ponytalk is confined to the pony-group-thingy and pony threads.

My "avatar bias" has two layers:

1. The low number of ponies is unsettling.

2. People are not wearing enough hats.

MLP avatars irritate me, but [strike/]they don't color my opinion of the person.[/S]

Couldn't post that with a straight face...

I am quite partial to simple avatars. A face. Little to no text. Something clever.

i like the pony avatars. They are awesome and they don't make it any more difficult to recognize people than the bazillion anime avatars.
i don't really dislike a lot of avatars, sometimes gifs annoy me.
what i do like is when people have avatars that are references to some 10 year old classic game.
And i don't see a problem with not having an avatar, for some people it's a choice and i was just to lazy for a year and a half

I don't have a problem with Pony avatars, but when I see an anime avatar I immediately think "No mater what this person has to say, I now disagree with it."

OT i have a bias against the pony avatars because apart from one persons (the crocodile guy) they all look the same.
Yes! I knew the Gummy avatar would pay off!

Well I know mine meets your second criteria, but does it count for the first?

And your Derpy isn't wearing a hat.

OT: I tend to be better disposed towards MLP avatars because I know we have at least one thing in common. On the negative side I guess I tend to assume anyone with an avatar of scantily-clothed and/or ridiculously large-breasted women is a bit immature.
