Enough!

To the RPers: You need to compromise when making a character and learn to accept the limitations placed by the GM. While I do not approve of his manner of limiting your creativity, he is the game master and he does get the final say.

To the GM: You need to learn to compromise with your players as well. If your RP takes place in a set universe where these "Overpowered" powers are an issue, then you need to be able to give concise reasons as to why you do not want them in your game or write a way around them and no, "Its overpowered" does not count as a concise reason. You also need to show more respect to your players, you may be the GM, but you are not the controlling force behind the whole story. You do not have total control over the players or their characters and you need to accept that. A successful RP is a cooperative experience, not a dictatorship.

Consider this your only warning from here on out, if I see another outburst in this thread, I will lock it down and I will hand out a punishment to the offender.

Thank you and please, play nice.

Oh, is it over? Sweet! I should have a character sheet up by tonight. Just so I can be clear, Prince, would a character with about the level of power of the Metalbending police from LoK be alright? Fancy-flying-spidermand-whips included?

Since we've got this mess all over the thread, please do not post here any more. Once this has dropped off the first page I'm going to restart the thread, with some modifications to the OP. Everyone who has made or is making characters, just sit tight for a bit.

Fire. Air. Water. Earth.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko created the United Republic of Nations from the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom. It was intended to be a bastion of peace and progress, and for a long time it was. It weathered many trials, but the courage of the citizens and the protection of the Avatar - first Aang, then Korra - safeguarded the city through its many crises.

But evil can arise anywhere, and much that is good can be twisted by it. The powers of the Republic found themselves mighty, with a thriving industry and highly advanced technology. The ancient Four Nations that surrounded it were aging and decrepit, slow to embrace the modern age. Like Sozin over three hundred years ago, they sought to share their prosperity with the rest of the world, and they would do so whether the world wanted it or not.

Avatar Korra attempted to stop this, calling upon her incredible bending abilities to bring a stop to the invasion of the Earth Kingdom, but even the Avatar could not stop the armies that were arrayed against her. The sheer power of the new technologies in the world leveled the playing field between Army and Avatar, and for days the armies of the Republic battled Korra. In the end, however, the Avatar was defeated and slain.

With the Avatar defeated, the best hope for victory against the conquering Republic was gone. The Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, and Fire Nation brought all their strength against the Republic, along with the reborn Air Nomads, but it wasn't enough. One by one, the great bastions of the world began to fall. First was Ba Sing Se, the great walls incapable of standing under the barrages of Republic tanks and artillery and incapable of stopping Republic airships and bombers. Then the Northern Water Tribe in all its great strength faced the massive Republic Navy, the great glaciers shattered under the barrage of their rockets. The Fire Nation was the last to fall, Fire Lord Roku leading the defense of the capital. The conflict was long and vicious, the Fire Nation nearly able to match the Republic technologically. But their courage and ingenuity was not enough, and the Republic unleashed their greatest and most terrible weapon upon the Fire Nation, a bomb capable of annihilating entire cities in an instant.

As the ashes fell, the new Fire Lord Zhang unconditionally surrendered to the Republic. The Four Nations had been defeated and now throughout the world, the banner of the United Republic flew.

All throughout the Earth Kingdom the hunt for the new Avatar began by both the Republic and the forming Resistance groups. If the Republic were to find the Avatar, the last hope for liberation would be gone.

Ten years have passed since Avatar Korra's death, and no one has yet found the Avatar. Many have lost hope, they fear that the Avatar cycle has been broken, and that the Avatar will never return, or that the Avatar has been found and caged by the Republic for all time. But there are some of us who still hold hope that the Avatar will return, and that freedom will come.

Nearly two centuries have passed since Avatar Korra first set foot within Republic City, and much has changed since then. The bustling industrial metropolis of Republic City has continued to grow into a marvel of the new age, bright with light and neon.

But even as the city has sprawled wider and grown taller and brighter, those caught in the margins face greater suffering. Those at the top enjoy lives of luxury and ease, they are executives, politicians, scientists and generals. Each serves the Republic and all find great reward. Those in between fall deeper and deeper into the crevasse of poverty, forced to choose between low-paying, menial labor or starvation. Much of the work of skilled professionals has been taken up by computers and robots, leaving the lower classes suitable only for cheap labor and military work - and the occasional Bending prodigy.

For many the only hope of escaping life in the lower reaches of Republic City is either to become a professional bender - nearly impossible without both prodigious talent and the sponsorship of one of the city's many powerful corporations - or to become a criminal, a soldier in the shadow war the corporations fight between themselves. If you're willing to risk your life and your freedom you have a chance of escaping, but those who succeed are few and far between.

The passing of time has brought about many technological wonders, building upon what had already come. Television, jet aircraft, rocketry, atomics, computers, internet, cybernetics, space travel, artificial intelligence, the list goes on. The rate of growth seems to grow faster and faster, every day bringing a new wonder to those with the wealth to afford it.

Out of Character Information: Personal firearms were never invented in this world. While if someone had the idea they could exist tomorrow, the idea has not occurred to anyone. That said, cannons and fireworks and the such do exist.

The Resistance is a loosely organized force dedicated to the destruction of the megacorporations that dominate the Republic. There is no known leader of the Resistance, instead the Resistance is organized into a loose coalition of cells. Members of the resistance identify themselves to each other with a symbol, a downward pointing arrow in white or blue with a pair of white or blue dots just underneath the point. As yet, the Republic has not become aware of the significance of this symbol.

The Resistance is essentially spread by word of mouth and goes through all strata of society, from the dirt poor to the obscenely wealthy. No one is sure just how many or how powerful the Resistance is, but the Republic is focused on wiping them out.
Within the Resistance it is well known that the Jasmine Dragon chain of tea shops are almost universally friendly to the Resistance. The reason for this is not sure, but many within the Resistance suspect that a higher-up within the organization has ties to the Resistance.

The Resistance almost never acts openly, stealth and subterfuge are their watchwords. While they are numerous, the soldiers and machines of the Republic are more numerous and far more deadly. Their actions are rarely known, but it has become a trademark of the Resistance to leave a signature marker at the place of their attacks. These signatures vary, but tend to evoke Avatar Korra in some manner - Water Tribe armbands, water tribe money and symbols of the four elements being particularly common.

Name:

Age:

Gender:

Appearance:

Personality:

Occupation: The Resistance does not pay well. It doesn't really pay at all. So how does your character eat from day to day?

Skills: No need to list mundane skills - being a good cook, skilled at Pai Sho, or generally anything that would not have an application in a situation is unnecessary. Describe your skills, don't just say, y'know "He's a good martial artist" or "He's an Earthbender." Describe what he/she does, how she does it, what his particular quirks are and whatnot. Try not to list too many, but I'd prefer you erred on the side of too many than too few, it's easier to weaken a character than to strengthen them. While Metalbending and Lightningbending are allowed, Bloodbending is not available as it is both a lost art in story and completely overpowered out of story. Airbending, however, has returned to the world in considerable numbers, although they are still the least numerous of benders. Chi-Blocking has remained a popular and well known art for non-benders, and is occasionally learned by Benders as well - the Counter-Terrorist First Response Teams of the Republic Government consist of elite squads of Airbenders trained in Chi-Blocking. Keep in mind that the Resistance is a clandestine organization of guerrillas and does not engage in open warfare, as doing so is fairly suicidal.

Gear: Any possessions your character typically keeps within his or her grasp. Do not include vehicles, residences, bank accounts, or anything else you can't fit in a backpack. Cybernetics should be mentioned here, however. Note that you cannot bend through a cybernetic limb, and lacking a limb will severely weaken most Bending forms. Consider that as a member of the Resistance remaining inconspicuous will be essential, so weapons that cannot be hidden in a bag or under a coat are a poor choice.

Hey, real manly men keep going, don't go putting up a new thread simply because you don't want to look at some of the stuff here. Not like it really makes it any harder to read through looking for the tell-tale signs of a spoiler/character post. Bit of a waste of time if you ask me.

So should we just post all of the sheets we posted here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/540.393443-Avatar-Legends-of-the-Dark-Age?page=2] back to this page? I'm asking because this peculiar behavior have put me off from posting a sheet so far because I was confused as to where exactly I should post it.

Looks like we get to repost our sheets here because of....some reason(?).

Name: Luckard Bates
Age: doesn't really know, but reasonably young, somewhere between 19 and 24
Gender:Male
Bender/Non-Bender: Waterbender

Appearance:
Alan weighs in at less than 150 lbs., a fact pinpointed even farther as his frame towers over most men, at 6'5". His hair is the darkest shade of black possible and hangs wildly down to his shoulders, sometimes grimy, other times cleaner than the clearest crystal. Underneath his shock of hair are his amber tinted eyes, hidden behind his darkened shades.

He has an affinity for the color red, but wears a charcoal black suit, complete with vest and dark red hat. He also has a thick red velvet overcoat he stole from another man that doesn't move from place to place. His shoes are heavy,knee-high boots, the one thing on him that doesn't have a single hole. His shirt can change daily, but two colors, red and black, are the only constant in terms of his clothing. He keeps his sunglasses on at all times, he considers this non-negotiable unless something big goes down.

Personality:
A bit kooky by most people's standards, he has the fortune(at the misfortune of others most often) to spout seemingly random nonsense, but it is often humorous. When he actually gets angry however, the randomness may not cut off, but he will become serious in place of his normal "wackiness". His basic personality is having fun as much as he can basically, but finds equal enjoyment ramming people through walls as reading a good newspaper comic. However, he absolutely abhors anyone that makes more money than him. Which is most people that actually have a regular job. And he is actually quite sane, despite what many might think.

Occupation: Freelance muscle for various gangs, specifically for anti-government jobs(breaking into shops that openly support the government, or sell products made for them by them, political prisoners in-transit, etc.) though he will take any job that involve violence, he likes violence. But his "official" job is for an independent cybernetic company. They specialize in lending money to people going under the knife, and some people are a bit....reluctant to pay up for the generosity. That's where Luckard comes in, he's under contract to either bring the money...or the part. He gets a higher commission if he brings the money back though. This hasn't stopped him from ripping the part from their bodies from time to time when his temper gets the better of him.

He's also taken innocent walks in the night that have ended with him killing small patrols of the police, simply through his various insults as he passes by. He sincerely doesn't understand their antagonism towards him. The contents of their wallets and valuables he can sell to a pawn shop or fence helps with his injured feelings however.

Skills:
A very strong Waterbender, Lucard has heard of Bloodbending, but has yet to find anyone willing/able to teach it.Despite the "fact" that it's a lost art, he holds out He's well-versed in street fighting when his Bending fails him, not so much an organized method of fighting as a seemingly random style of kicks, punches, elbows, and headbutts. None of which lend well to his physical form, even though he's stronger than he looks. He also knows how to throw a knife reasonably straight.

His Waterbending skills involve his peculiar sense of humor, as he enjoys using his enemy's against themselves. Taking their sweat built up that inevitably forms during a fight and attacking them with it. He has mastered the water whip, but modified it to suit himself again, by freezing a portion of the water in the heart of the whip, lending more weight behind the weapon, turning the blunt splash of water into a piercing icicle that leaks into their bodies.

Another of his innovations would be transferring the sweat from a person's body into a localized spot, often their hand or face, and freezing it, both incapacitating at the least.

Yet another of his fighting innovations, this one is not so much his own as his "master's", designed to fight multiple opponents coming from all sides at once, it supposedly blends Waterbending with Airbending. He first gathers the water from his back and the surrounding area. This is then gathered into a ball around him, freezes a few centimeters of it, and explodes it outwards in all directions by spiking it at the last second, followed by the explosion of water into the surrounding area, soaking most if not all his opponents. The final stage is freezing the surrounding water, disabling them and and sending them flying back via slippery ice.

Outside of combat, he knows how to scavenge on the streets better than most, having grown up on them. His skills also include persuasion through uncomfortableness as well as minor street notoriety as a man not to be trifled with, if only because of his presence. He can pick simple locks, such as those seen on lockers, bathroom doors, and hope chests.

Gear:
Two bags of water strapped to his back, underneath the coat. He carries a half-dozen throwing knives on each leg, strapped as well. a set of lockpicks is in one of the pockets without holes most times. The last thing he carries around is a pair of scissors, never know when they might come in handy.

History:
Luckard was born an orphan, a not uncommon occurrence in the present day. He spent his first few years in a government orphanage, before being booted out because of the lack of room. He turned to crime quite early on, first breaking in windows for food and money, then pickpocketing when he needed it to survive. He came into contact with a member of one of the shadowy underground's up-and-comers, a Ms. Lucile Bates. While attempting to pickpocket the woman, he was caught, but rather than kill or reprimand the boy, she saw his potential while still at a young age as a tool. She herself was a Waterbender, and saw some of the Water Tribe blood in his appearance, and was determined to find the Waterbending spark in him. It didn't take long into training before he outstripped her in terms of how fast he learned things in comparison. He took her surname, and changed his "given" name from the orphanage, Luke, into Lukard, as it sounded more menacing to his ears. She rose through the ranks of the underworld and he along with her as he was considered her child, if not by blood, then by ties. This served to leave a spot in her defenses, though until her death at the hands of a government raid, no one dared challenge the boy, as he was her not-so-secret weapon. It was known he was learning Waterbending, but not how strong he was in the art.

They rose up, within a few years having carved out a few blocks known as their neighborhood, where their word was law whenever the Republic wasn't out in force and were in the process of expansion. He may not have known the particulars of their enterprise, but he did know it was all illegal, as he was approaching the age when he was planning on expanding their borders. Then they got the attention of the Republic with a raid on a routine political prisoner caravan passing near their territory.

The government attacked their complex in the middle of the night, while Luckard and his "mother"/master were asleep. He in his room, her in her office where she took care of deals with other gangs and individuals. She was overpowered by the sheer numbers thrown against her, that was when Luckard awoke to the sounds of yelling and Bending Battles. He was barely able to reach his bottle of training water and defend himself as they burst through the door to find a teenager throwing icicles at their faces, while not killing any of them, he did manage to fight off three that came through that door. He escaped and has hated the Republic in every sense of the word since.

His skills have helped with many operations throughout the City. From simple ambushes of guard and police patrols to minor break-ins of government controlled buildings. He has a small reputation with various gangs and organizations that operate out from under the Republic's purview.

Name: Zhen Wan

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Appearance: 6'2" and of a lean, athletic build. Short brown hair and brown eyes. Dresses to be inconspicuous, favoring light, washed out colors like grey and white and wearing a hood to conceal his face. His right forearm bears tattoos with the characters for 'gale' and 'stride' written in light blue ink.

Personality: Silent and contemplative, Zhen tends to keep to himself unless directly addressed. When he does feel the need to talk, it's usually not for more than a few sentences. Slow to anger and even slower to trust. Like most people of low birth, he has very little love for the Republic or its leadership.

Occupation: Courier. Even with the proliferation of motor vehicles, there's still a demand for secure - and perhaps more importantly, discrete - methods of delivery. His clientele usually consists of the various rings of organized crime that rule the Republic's underworld. While he does get the occasional bit of honest work, those are few and far between these days.

Skills: His skill as an airbender focuses on fortifying his body and enhancing his mobility. While he does not have the raw wind strength of most airbenders, his fine control is extraordinary - so much so that he has the ability to use a specialized breathing technique to increase the oxygen content of the air he breathes. This gives him immensely improved stamina, reflexes, and agility, but prolonged use(2~ min) makes him dizzy and lightheaded while gross overuse(5~ min) runs the risk of him passing out. He can perform a much milder version of this breathing technique that does not have this limitation but with a greatly diminished effect.

In addition to his breathing, he can also use his airbending to enhance his personal mobility. While too weak to knock a person over at a distance, his airbending is strong enough to empower jumps, soften landings, lengthen his stride, and extend his reach. His fighting style revolves around remaining elusive and mobile, using his bending to constantly dart in and out of combat.

He's skilled at climbing, freerunning, and general mobility around a city.If you need somebody chased down or a message delivered unmolested, he's the man to see, as his ability to traverse narrow back alleys and rooftops gives him an edge in avoiding Republic patrols.

His time as a courier also makes him extremely familiar with the streets, alleyways, and rooftops of Republic City. In addition, he has quite a few contacts in the underworld.

Gear: His trademark is a black courier's bag with the character for 'swift' written in red. In it he keeps a day's worth of dry rations and water, a pocket knife, and a map of Republic City. He also keeps a pair of fingerless gloves with a set of retractable claws embedded in the palms. While he can use them as a weapon in a pinch, he prefers to keep them sharp for their real purpose - helping him scale walls and buildings.

History: Zhen was born the son of a streetsweeper. This less than affluent upbringing forced him to take up various odd jobs to feed his family. One of the most common was delivering messages for the various gangs that ran the streets when the Republic wasn't looking - even Republic patrols can't search every street urchin. Zhen quickly garnered a reputation as being one of the fastest and most reliable in the city - so fast, in fact, that rumors started to spread that he had talent as an airbender.

One man in particular took an interest in the boy - a gang leader by the name of Marks. He had his gang bring the boy to him, and offered Zhen, then only 12 years old, a deal - work exclusively for him as a courier, or he'd break his legs. Zhen flatly refused and bound over the walls to the complex, breaking into a sprint down the back alleys. Marks's men gave pursuit, but much to their surprise and annoyance, they found it difficult to keep pace and nearly impossible to outright catch him.

Unfortunately for Zhen, however, even augmented by his airbending his stamina wasn't limitless. The gangsters eventually cornered him, moving in with pipes in their hands and malice in their eyes. But before they could strike, Zhen was blown back by a sudden gale of wind, seeing a figure land in front of him in a cloud of dust. As Zhen scrambled to his feet, he saw the man more clearly, with jet-black hair and sporting a coat with a blue arrow stitched to the side.

Zhen watched with awe as the man effortlessly dispatched the thugs, moving with what the boy recognized as an airbender's grace. Gales of wind followed his strikes, and tailwinds aided his movements. When he finished, the man turned to him and introduced himself as Garret, a field agent for the Resistance. Impressed with the boy's talent, Garret offered Zhen an opportunity to join his cell. Excited at the prospect of working with somebody so skilled, Zhen immediately accepted, on the condition Garret train him as his apprentice. Zhen's worked for the Resistance ever since, spending the time between deliveries scouting Republic strongholds and delivering messages.

Okay, since I'm not going to be allowed to remake my threads...

Iron Ruler, Redryhno. Both of you please stop wasting your time. I will never accept your sheets because I personally dislike you and find you disruptive elements within my RPs. The distaste is not mutual. Your efforts to push me aside and ignore me had only made me more eager to play a game with you. I wanted to mend our relationship but you refused. You are the one who is disruptive here.

Screw it, I don't remember you, and judging by the previous pages of your responses, I'm sure I don't want to remember.
