Oh, did I mention Avatar: The Last Airbender? Pretty much the greatest show ever. First season's a little kiddy (it is a kids show, after all), but it's an amazingly epic show with a great story and amazing characters. Watch.
I love you....

Weeds. It's fucking hilarious. Kevin Nealon is a pothead mayor of a yuppie California suburb. Probably the best satire of American suburbia. One of his re-election campaign slogans is "Celia Hodes has clamydia!"

I second the Dexter(especially The Lithgow Season) recommendation, but if you appreciate comedy at all, Weeds is better.

And if you like animation and metal, Metalocalypse! That show is BRUTAL!

Doctor Who- The best show on TV in my opinion, nuff said
Torchwood- also pretty good, more adult spin of the Doctor Who
Family Guy- funny but don't watch if you are easy to offend
Futurama- Also very funny
Invader Zim- Just a cool series, shame it only went 2 seasons
The Inbetweeners-sitcom based on a bunch of teenagers, funny
Fawlty Towers: The best comedy ever
Primeval: A solid and enjoyable show
Hustle: Very interesting and enjoyable
Bottom: mindless slapstick at its finest

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
Both are awesome sci fi series with great stories and characters and some awesome space battles in a few of the episodes.
Action packed excitement mixed with compelling drama, what more do you want
I should also point out that they restarted Atlantis on Sky one today in the UK. Double episodes monday to friday from 5pm UK time
Imagine if Firefly was put on a good channel, and that's the awesomeness of Stargate.
Also, Top gear springs to mind.

If you don't mind shows that aren't airing anymore, Mr. Show with bob and david, and Arrested Development.

Absolutely, positively watch all seasons of UK comedy fave Peep Show, and also the BBC drama House of Cards 1 & 2. And if you can find it, Raffles starring Anthony Valentine.

The Wire.

It lives up to the critical hype, and then some.
Based on the first series. Hell yes it does. I only managed to get a few episodes into the 2nd series before my friend demanded his dvd's back. I will be getting my own box set soon.

I'd also recommend:
The Shield
Dexter
Lost(although you do have to put up with alot to enjoy it)
Band of Brothers

The Panda seal of approval for all time best TV show goes to Boston Legal. I can't recommend it enough. It's funny, clever, self aware and I genuinely got hugely attatched to more than a few of the characters. Get stuck in.

You have to see Six Feet Under. It is the best show ever made. Also The Wire is extremely good.

I don't care if you already have it on your list, WATCH LOST.
Same goes for Scrubs.

If you're going to watch the Office I would suggest only watching the first three seasons because it started sucking after that.

And last but certainly not least, what is possibly the greatest show of all time (although Lost puts up a pretty good fight): STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES!

It's already been said twice, but I highly, HIGHLY recommend Supernatural. It follows two brothers as they travel the U.S. killing every paranormal creature you can possibly imagine. They also keep fairly accurate to the legends, so if you are a mythology buff like me, it isn't a painful experience. There is also a very interesting, very awesome under-arcing plot that has finally come to fruitation now (fifth Season).

Criminal Minds is a good show if you like crime shows and you don't mind getting the details of a case of a deranged killer and all the disgusting things he/she does to his/her victims. It's a show about a team at the BAU, a special branch of profilers that help catch serial killers. The characters are very rounded and believable, and you will probably grow to love them. (currently in its fifth season)
