Thank god, can you imagine what a fucked up kid that would turn out to be if it didn't die.

With a mother like that.

Oh gee...

Two years ago the devil was videogames (well, it still is), 10 years ago would be TV, 30 years ago Rock n Roll... It's happening again!

Lots of news trying to crucify another thing. But they're not in luck this time, since this "thing" is not something for sub-cultures.

Hell, every single mom of everyone i know uses facebook.

I doubt she timed the whole event out. How do you know its exactly 10 minutes? All we know she could've just been saying that while she as half in tears and in pain from losing her child. Just sitting there with tears on her face saying I wasn't even gone ten minutes. It also says she checked on him. So she put him in the tub came back later then went back out of the room and came back when she heard no noise to see if something was wrong.

Say it was all an accident and now you have a grieving mother, don't you think thats enough pain. She'll probally already be looked down by everyone around her and now you want to sent her to prison to rot...

I have a one-year old brother, so this is an absolutely horrifying story for me.

as far as i think regardless of the mom playing something as stupid as cafe world
the kid still would of died
the mom clearly stated she thought the kid could bath alone safely so in other words even if she did not use face book she still would of left him in there alone

"Thank God a baby died."

Usually, everyone gets mad when the WBC says that.

And don't yell at me about context, because that's exactly what you said in the end, and it was despicable. Think before you post.

Even worse is that your motto on your profile is "It's never too late". You clearly don't believe that if you immediately assume a kid would grow up evil because his mother tried to give him independence way too early.

Of course exact timing is probably off, I can't even correctly guess how long it takes me to do something. But look at the bolded section of your post. THAT is the important part of the whole story. It doesn't matter if she left him alone for 2 minute or if she left him alone for 20 minutes, you just don't leave a 1 year old child alone in a bath tub while you are in a completely different room! And yes, I understand that maybe if she only did leave him alone for literally a minute he might have been saved, but that doesn't justify leaving him alone in a tub of water!

Also, I never said she should be locked up, although she did commit child neglect (if found guilty. I feel that I have to mention that before I get hounded by people on here) and caused/allowed the death of a child which would be a criminal offense worthy of a prison sentence. I agree that living with that is definitely hard and will haunt her forever. What I meant by defending is the people who are saying she isn't a bad mother! I can't remember who said it, but someone literally said, "She obviously cared about the child." If she cared she wouldn't have left the kid unattended to! It would be way less severe if she had to go answer the phone, but then immediately returned to the bathroom with the phone so she could talk and make sure the baby is safe. But no, instead she left the room to play fucking Cafe World instead of ensuring the safety of her child.

That's so sad =(

It doesn't matter that Facebook was involved (could have been anything, like the phone - in fact, FB is practically the modern equivalent of catching up on the phone for some people), but she should not have left her baby alone in water. It's that simple.

Babies do not wash themselves. If you have put a baby in the water for a bath, then bathe the baby, get the whole water issue out of the way, and *then* you can pop the child on your lap or in your arm and check up on how your friends are doing on FB.

Now, I don't believe she needs to go to jail for this, because I don't get the impression that she was *deliberately* negligent. I think the pain of losing a child, and knowing that it was her fault, is enough punishment.

But she is guilty of killing her baby.
Wow. Someone makes a thread in a video game forum and you believe it all? Do you know the woman? Do you know if the report is accurate? Do you even know if the crime actually happened?

Next time you get a newspaper -- something I consider far, far more reliable than a poster in this forum -- check the retractions.

It never ceases to amaze me... The people here...
We have no other information here other than her sworn statement, not just a statement in the media, that she indeed has commited the act of leaving her 1 year old son alone in a bath unattended. There's even copies of the legal documents, which they'll use in court, containing the statement included with the article, just read those and ignore the article if you want to.

Yeah she could've lied, yeah the police could've lied, yeah we could all be sucked in space tomorrow. A lot of things 'can' happen, but right now we're going on a sworn statement which should be one of the most trustworthy things in certain legal systems. If it wouldn't be there wouldn't be such a heavy penalty of lying under oath.

Also, judging by some of your posts, you're not so different yourself. No need to get all arrogant. By the way, posting links of the Australian legal system doesn't help much in this topic as this incident happened in the USA.

When I read this thread topic, the first thing that popped into my mind is the hatred facebook receives on escapist. Then followed by "I wonder how many people will blame facebook for this that will defend video games in the same breath when school shootings pop up" Sure enough, they are sprinkled through the thread.

Meh, I bet the baby just killed itself to avoid dealing with a facebook mom.

-badum ching-

I'm curious as to how much water was in the tub. When my mom has let my baby siblings in the tub, there is only an inch of water, and the baby is old enough to crawl or at least sit up independently. I wager that if the baby was a year old, it would be capable of such actions. In order for my siblings to have drowned, they'd have to try to do it on purpose by putting their face in the water and not moving from the discomfort of not being allowed to breathe. If this baby was able to be on its side and still drown, YOU PUT TOO MUCH WATER IN THE TUB YOU FUCKING MORON!

I won't defend that she shouldn't have been playing some Facebook game or whatever and look on every 10 minutes (knowing well they can be addictive and her 10/3 minutes may have been 45/15 minutes), but you may notice that it only need a few minutes for an accident to happen and you can't blame anyone for turning their attention to do something else that could have been required (phone for example), or not.

Her worst mistake was not knowing how to do CPR or was that left out of the report. The water was in his lung so he kept drowning on the way to hospital. It's a terrible accident, I don't think it justify the bad parenting title, parents are not to be psychotic big brothers, or neglectful death. It is a regretful accident, my condoleance, she'll pay dearly with her child's death she don't need the government to slap the corpse on her face.

There is bad parenting and this stand far from leaving a UZI in the hand of an 8 years old. [True story. Kid is dead, shot in the face by the recoil. Parents are suing the gun company who sold THEM the weapon.]

she should have bought a laptop, brought it into the bathroom, and sat on the toilet cover on facebook while her kid is in the water. easily avoided accident.

Your easily avoided accident solution comes with a cost... Given that might have helped, just like bubble-wrapping your furnitures. Popping those is just so therapeuthic.
